I this SUCKS!!
My boss is maybe two months behind paying me and I can't get the Elite package!

Is it weird that I think this is pretty cool? Wish I had $120 laying around. I'm usually against exclusive content, but I think this is a good thing.

I have tons, and I mean TONS of Battletech miniatures, many still in box, rule-books, and novels. They should give me legendary for free :D

So tempted to get the $60 pack. Really wishing I hadn't spent quite so much on various betas and such lately...

Hmm...I might chip in for $30, probably no more though. Big fan of the Mechwarrior games.

What's so good about it? How is paying $120 for F2P game a good thing (and one that is still in beta)?

You aren't really paying $120 for the game. You are paying the game creators $120 dollars to help get the game off the ground and getting a bonus in return. This is for those people who greatly enjoyed the old Mech Warrior games and would like to see a successfull successor.

I would love to see a demo or a beta weekend before making the jump for a more expensive pre-purchase package. Not much information on the website in terms of battle size, etc.

This. I gush over mechwarrior pretty bad and this is a big risk for them. I don't think its backed by any major publisher.

I've watched a bit of gameplay of this, and it looks pretty sweet. A lot like the classic games.

One thing I did not see, however, was the big reactor overload explosion when you kill a Mech. Maybe it's not in the game yet?

I was about to bitch about the $120 price tag for "Legendary" when I remembered I have a Halo 3 Legendary Helm like 5 feet away from me.. I have no room to judge.

I can tell you guys this game rocks. I'm in for the Legendary package.

Having played this game,

I suggest you play Living Legends.

Rounds are short and stale, and it lacks the inspiration that really makes it feel like a Mechwarrior game.

Depresses the hell out of me, but at the moment I just dont see how this could be released anytime soon and be good quality.

If you are correct then they know this and are doing a quick money grab before producing a failing game :p

I had/still have hopes for the game but I am not forking over my money this early in... I can live without exclusive things.

thats why its not being released any time soon lol.. open beta is aug 7th and gets you into closed beta.. actual game doesn't come out til weeks later. but in the end the advantage of F2P games is they are constantly updated and improved on vs games you buy for 60 bucks and the developers usually forget about 2 months later.

Good call, save your money now and decide a little later.

That may be true, but at the moment it is not something I would suggest people blow a ton of money on, hit this with a wait and see.

the game is still pretty raw state, wait and see is a wise approach unless you are that desperate for any kind of MW fix.

AC2 - "Hey guys, it's just a beta."
Vanguard - "Hey guys, it's just a beta."
Conan - "Hey guys, it's just a beta."
Warhammer - "Hey guys, it's just a beta."
Many more I am missing - "Hey guys, it's just a beta."

How did that work out?

^^^ An excellent point. I think I'll wait on this one to see what happens with development.

I hate to be a pessimist. The only beta I remember being in that was glaringly incomplete and went onto be successful in a paid model sense was Everquest. Of course, we didn't know better back then.

I'm in for Legendary... I had to, simple as that. I was in the Beta for World of Tanks, which to me was very distantly related to driving a Mech, but a fix I needed and actually enjoyed. Now, if my $120 can have even a remote "possibility" of helping bring an actual new Mech game for me to play... I'm all in. I'm just a big fan, what else can I say?

It still seems crazy to me to pay $120 to fund this based on the franchise/genre rather than the developer. If this were the old Mechwarrior 2 team or something I could understand, but these devs have no Mechwarrior experience so there's no way to know if they'll do it right.

Interested. Anyone got an update on hawken by chance as well?

If you throw $120 in you are just flat out desperate, but given the current state of games in general I can't blame you.

I am amazed that for $120 you don't even get a lifetime of boosted xp/credits.

You must have been in such a weakened state that you forgot how to use Google.

Whole lot cheaper than $120. From what I've heard... About 1000x better in every way too.:D

Everquest was one of the first major mmo's and didn't have a "pay us up front for beta" scheme.

Please be good

Hahaha exactly what I was thinking! Man does this bring me back to my childhood running around in my Marauder. I loved having to enter passwords from that book just to get into the game! Thanks for the heads up, I didn't even know this game existed.

A buddy of mine is in the beta and I sometime borrow his account, this is what he had to say about the last patch. I don't think their schedule is realistic tbh, the game has potential but still needs a lot of work.

well I can't seem to make enough credits to repair the atlas.. somehow not all that impressed with this iteration of the game design
ammo alone is like 300k

wtf I guess they really want ppl to drive laser boats

It is always the excuse. I stopped listening to it a long time ago.

On the forums someone showed first day sales of the packages and in the first 24 hours they had over $500,000 in Legendary orders alone. I forget the numbers for the other two package options. You can find it on their forums if you want to see it for yourself.

Websense is blocking the site for me at work but I'm going to check it out when I get home. I'm really crossing my fingers for this one, MW is one of may favorite gaming frachises that has mostly dropped off the map. I still load up MW3 and 4 every now and again and run through it just for nostalgia.

Holy shit. I guess the game better end up being good or there's gonna be a lot of pissed-off MW fans.

I guess its bad to give a developer the benefit of the doubt?

Because it's a Mechwarrior game and all the footage and information about the game really screams mechwarrior to me I got a founders pack. Given I have pre-ordered games in past that I have barely played dropping $30 or $60 for early access, in game currency and a founders mech was easily justifiable. Granted, I did the impulse buy for $120.

Actually, If I have any complaints to make about the founders stuff, it's that the Legendary level is a little over priced for what you get. $30 and $60 are easily worth it, but I think $100 would have been more in line with the value.

My boss is maybe two months behind paying me and I can't get the Elite package!

Seriously -- when I was younger and straight out of college I put up with crap like that for a while... and we are talking about being owed 6 to 8 weeks worth of pay, worth about 12,000 dollars.

Sadly the bubble I was banking in popped in 09 and now making crap for money. If my employer ever said on payday "sorry I'll pay you soon I promise" I'd stop coming in.

But yes -- if you are owed 2 months of pay, you have been working for free this entire time. I know how it feels to be in that situation - and i know you want to convey to your boss you are a "team player" but you are getting taken advantage of plain and simple.

You can't tell your credit card/car loan/cell phone people that they will get paid in 2 months without a penalty. If you employer doesn't want to pay you and you are still showing up, either start charging them interest or just stop showing up.
