Day Z - experiences and Gameplay videos

Yeah, the latest patch spawns you with nothing but some painkillers, a bandage, and a flashlight. It's so brutal. I love it.

My friends and I all respawned last night and had to make our way to Cherno with just those supplies. It took us about an hour, all fumbling in the dark in the middle of nowhere to finally meet up.

It's because, right now, there are ZERO repercussions for PKing. Before at least there was a bandit skin so you could kind of tell who was a PKer, but they got rid of that (dumb move IMO) so now it's just a bunch of ultra-paranoid people who shoot first.

I agree. This latest patch at least adds the heartbeat to bandits when crosshairs are on them.

The way to punish PKing is by making zombies more numerous, more sensitive to gunshots, and tougher. That's why they're there in the first place - to suppress PKing.

Latest update also increased zombie sensitivity, thankfully.
 
Oh hey, so you start with a flashlight now? That's nice. Does it have limited battery or is it unlimited?

No weapons is kinda lame, but actually that's really nice for noobs starting out, so they can't just run around and get griefed by people PKing for no reason. Plus, if you are careful, you won't draw aggro from zombies anyway, so you really don't need the starting gun too much. Looks like they increased spawn rate of weapons so it should balance out.
 
I found a new server mod its kind of like cops and robbers but simulated and role playing its hilarious. there is nothing like drug searching somebody and then executing them hahahahha

You're probably thinking of the "<map name> Life" RPG servers. Been around for awhile.

For example there's Chernarus Life, Zargabad Life, etc.

I tried playing them for awhile, but the main issue was that a great deal of the admins were power-tripping assholes. Made the game not fun when they would just be police, shoot you for no reason and steal your shit. And of course if you complained or tried to outrun them, they'd just kick/ban you.
 
Battery life is unlimited, at least at this time. I know the ACE realism mod had some equipment which required batteries such as the rangefinders. Would be interesting if DayZ required batteries that would run out after a certain time.

I dunno, the game is hard enough without having to worry about pitch-black darkness all the time, lol. Especially since the new beta patches (now required for DayZ) have changed the tone mapping so darkness is even darker now.

Maybe if batteries could stack in the inventory and were fairly common...otherwise, meh.
 
I like that its even tougher now, I'm not against the new spawn inventory but I think the zombies have been dialled up to 11 now and just way too sensitive, there's really no need for both of them changes in tandem, it's already a complete nightmare dealing with them.

Part of the issues is more to do with zombie density and the respawn rate though, the endless gunfights where shots pull new spawned zombies creating infinite waves is worse than ever and sometimes you get a crazy number of zombs in some areas making navigating them, well basically impossible, so maybe with that fixed things will level out.

Yeah, that was my initial complaint with them upping the difficulty of zombie encounters in this patch. Sad to hear that it actually does make the problem worse.

Summer Sale will probably have something, though.

i saw it on sale at some place , amazon or whatever other digital download store , but im waiting for steam since i dont want to deal with updates .
 
Yeah, maybe it was Amazon I'm thinking of. Might also keep an eye on GreenManGaming, they have games on there that usually give Steam keys too.
 
GMG only really does Steam keys for games that require Steam. A2 / OA is not one of them.

But really, there is no reason to necessarily wait to get the game on Steam other than easy patching and whatnot (not like official patches come out all that often and you have to manually install beta patches anyway). It's not a Steamworks game and the overlay doesn't even really work that well in the game (kinda makes the UI go wonky sometimes).

yup thats what im talking about. I've actually found some regulated servers.. no shooting unarmed civilians or you get banned. its moderated which makes it more fun

I want to explore, find stuff, and kill some zombies as needed but watching them spawn in front of me and/or trying to crawl around everywhere to get stuff gets old really fast.

I hear ya but the Zeds are easier to evade now as well if you can break their LOS.

I hope there are some cool melee animations. All other attempts at melee in the ArmA engine have been...well...pretty awful. :p

Why are you transmitting constantly in the first one? If that's DC you know the infected can hear that, right?

Also, can I ask for a screenshot of your settings (both in-game and in the arma2OA.cfg in your documents folder), please? You seem to be one of the people without the alpha over foliage, and foliage grow-in as you look at it, and that's something that really bothers me. Can't get rid of it no matter how hard I try or what I change. You using nVidia or ATI?

Are you talking about the whitish aura on grass and trees?

If so, I remember I had the same problem before, but I can't remember what I had to do in order to fix it. I think it may have been something simple like trying to force settings in the nvidia control panel.

Skype wouldn't work for some odd reason at the time, so they just used direct. I couldn't talk at all as it was 4am and my gf was asleep.

I'm using a gtx670 asus direct 2gb, not on my pc right now so can't post a screen, I can say though that the draw distance/popin had always been iffy with aram2's engine, I think the glow has something to do with AA being enabled.

I see past any visual problems with this game, which is odd for me, because usually if I can't get a constant 60fps/have any visual issues, I sneer at said game and maybe won't even play it.
