EVGA GTX 690 Signature in stock at Amazon

Nice, I'm mostly curious if these cards will hold any kind of value next year or the year after compared to the depreciation of two 670's which offer basically the same performance for a lot less money. They're somewhat limited but it seems no one is collecting $1000 video cards just to put in a glass case somewhere for show. At least these cards aren't as rare as those silly overpriced Asus Ares and Mars cards.

When priced right (i.e $1000 not $1200), the 690s are a pretty solid deal, it's only $200 more expensive than dual 670s while being more powerful and only using 1 PCI-E slot which is very important for some people (pretty sure it uses less power too).

I can't see 'em being sold for less than $700-800 used in a year unless the new GPUs totally destroy it in terms of price to performance ratio.

Not really more powerful when you take into account stock clock speeds. Both dual 670's and a 690 can be overclocked however. I also don't think anyone looking at a $1000 video card is too concerned with using only one PCI-E slot. Just saying. Its a pretty card, but its hard to understand the real value in it other than saving one PCI-E slot which anyone that buys one has a motherboard with two slots available.

It will probably be two generations before they're left behind from a performance standpoint, much like AMD and Nvidia's previous dual chip solutions, they still offer decent performance today but the value has still dropped because people prefer new tech.

They are if they're doing smaller mATX and ITX builds where the cases might support two cards in SLI but it's a tight fit and leaves little room for airflow.

LOL, those people can probably be counted on one hand. C'mon the justification for this card is nothing more than "I got one and you don't", nothing more. Meanwhile the dual 670 guys are going, "yea, and...".

This just showed in stock at NE too.

I'm having a hard time holding back on this but the thought of what my wife would say/do keeps me from completing the order.

Not really, running 2 cards in a system takes a lot more space than one, it's not just as simple as "1 less PCI-E slot" to worry about. Then there are people who think about running Quad SLI with dual 690s and that's a lot less messy than 4 cards in 1 case.

You might not value case airflow, cooling and efficiency, but other people do and for $200 they'd get that + better performance out of the box vs SLI 670s.

Again, you're talking about a VERY, VERY small target audience that can't run more than one PCI-E card or wants quad SLI.

Dude, it's not a matter of whether one can or can't run 2 cards on their motherboard, it's a matter of preference.

How exactly are you getting better performance out of the box vs SLI 670's when the 690 comes clocked lower than most non-reference 670's. You get a few extra shaders which don't amount to much of anything.

So why do you pop in every thread about other products evangelizing the 670? 7970 threads, 680 threads, and now a 690 thread...come on. Your 670 shtick is getting really old. You've turned up in 7970 threads to tell AMD users how much better the 670 is, and now you're doing it in a 690 thread.

This thread is just a heads up for people who want to buy a 690, i'm sure they're well aware of other options. Just FYI, my 690 clocked at 1100+ out of the box. No one is reporting clocks of the advertised 915, all 690s i've heard of clock considerably higher out of the box - and the samsung ram on the 690 overclocks on my card to 7000mhz. 17k 3dmark11 out of the box as well. Don't bother refuting this with more nonsense about how great the 670 is. Again, the incessant touting of the 670 in UNRELATED thraeds is getting REALLY old.

Consider the title of this thread, and then realize that what you are doing with your 670 evangelism is borderline trolling. Enough about your 670 already and stop shitting 7970 and 680/690 threads with it.

I don't know what it is about this generation of GPU's but we never saw this much bashing last gen when the HD 6950 could be unlocked to the performance of a HD6970. People still bought the 6970s like crazy and even the 6990 got alot of love. People and their condescending bullshit is getting old. I just built my system with a 680 and never even considered a 670 because I always buy the top tier GPU. I don't care about the price savings and the small performance loss, I buy what I want.

It's not just about FPS, it's also about smoother frame metering (biggest plus), more compatibility, less power draw, and the potential to add another 690. I will be eating exclusively Ramen and developing scurvy but it's all worth it in the end.

Doing dual or triple SLI with a GTX680 nets you 4 or 6 less PCI-E slots, not two or three.
If you want to go quad-sli then you waste all your PCI-E slots plus an additional backplate that could be used for additional ports from a motherboard connector.

With one GTX690 you lose only two ports instead of 4. With quadsli you lose only four instead of 8.

And you get near the same performance as a GTX680 SLI and with less clutter.

With an HD 7970 and watercooling you only lose the PCI-E that occupies the card thanks to its single backplate connector design. So you can get more cards.

You know, a motherboard not only serves as a hub for video cards.

Man you sure are sensitive, is it because I put you in your place in that other thread where you stepped over the line? I think I'm just repeating what everyone already knows that the 670's are a better value. I don't think anyone disagrees with this. I stated my OPINION that I don't understand why too many people would consider this card. My OPINION is just as valid as yours and if you don't like opinions, maybe you should stay away from the internet, keyboard warrior.

People that can afford a GTX 690 are not looking for better value. End of story. No one cares how close you can get a GTX 670 to for less money. It will never be a GTX 690. Let it go.

And it can't be any simpler.

I thought these forums were supposed to be fun and a place to learn and discuss everything. Now every thread I go too, I see someone wanting to start a argument over something stupid. Oh well I guess you will have those people everywhere.

Grow up, seriously.

Yeah grow up! Don't you know you aren't suppossed to have fun on these forums? Gosh! :D

Anyways I wonder if the 690s will have issues like the 590s did...

I've heard that these 690s are rock solid. I think nvidia learned from that little mistake.

OK I came to my senses and canceled the 690 signature edition order. Including taxes and shipping it was going to run me $1133  In the end the total cost of switching to a 690 from 670SLI (including RMA restocking and shipping fees) would have been a shocking $450. Hell I could buy a 3rd 670 for that money. I guess I'll just have to live with not having the absolute best thing money can buy.

For those richer than me there's now a single 690 in stock at NewEgg. Jump on it fast :)

Yeah, its all relative to where you stand now.I got a "good deal"on Ebay for a NIB Signature edition for $1040 shipped.Sold 2 GTX 580s for $600 so the same $450 did get me the best money can buy.Have had SLI since the 280 series,480,580 and said that when 1 card performed as well as 2 SLI I would jump to 1 card.It seems for the most part, the 690 is that card..Cant wait for Fedex to get here Wednesday!! :D

I don't know if I would call that a little mistake... Seems like you could find youtube videos of them on fire everywhere :D. Its good the 690s are rock solid though. I bet the 590 issues hurt them although I wonder how many they really sold compared to SLI 580s or 570s...

I would have to agree. I think the GTX580 in SLI was one of the most popular dual card setups last gen. After thinking about it and the fact I already have a waterblock on my 680, I think when the time comes I will just get a second 680 over the 690.

I don't see how two 670's are better value. For what, clocks? There are more factors when buying a video card than how fast it can go. The 690 is built better than any 670, uses better components, has a better cooling system ( against reference 670s) as far as I know, doesnt have the coil whine issue.. I haven't heard of one 690 not being able to overclock, it produces less heat, and is quieter at full load.. not to mention what everyone else knows, uses less power, takes up less space and will probably have better resell value and if you're talking fps and numbers, stock vs stock, a 690 is faste than stock 670 sli. I think the 690 honestly has better value, if you can afford it and if you can afford a good 850w power supply and 2 670s, than I'm sure you can afford a $999 690. Just to let you know, this is coming from someone who owned two 670's before I went back to my 680..

The 670 is a fantastic card, don't get me wrong, but saying it's better value without taking into account everything else besides clock speeds, is ridiculous.

The biggest reason why I almost traded 670s for a 690 is improved frame metering. The 690 is an SLI that spits out frames with the consistency of a single-GPU. Now only if nVidia could implement that in software without drastically reducing SLI scaling...

Yea, I almost pulled the trigger multiple times on the 690.. but for the games I play, an OC'd 680 lets me play max settings with little or no AA. I plan on doing an Ivy bridge overhaul build, even though I don't need to, I finally have the funds to spoil myself a lil bit :p
