Verizon will be making a major announcement on Monday billed as changing the Internet forever. The company already announced an increase in speed for FiOS and the pricing tiers were leaked last week, so what in this world will make the announcement so revolutionary?

from what ive read theyve bought into an automotive telecommunication
and are planning a wireless high speed fios

any other rumors worth mentioning?

If Verizon takes their ball and goes home, that might change it for a year, but "forever"....give me a frickin break....is Al Gore's people on their marketing team?

It's "Juggernaut", everyone knows it will revolutionize the company. But it won't happen till 2015, oh I mean 2012.

I live in New Zealand... The internet will not change 1% for me.

Typical marketing propaganda.

I wonder if this will be like when Razer announced that they were changing the face of PC gaming forever......by introducing a $2500 gaming laptop.

Maybe Verizon will be sending a guy with geeky glasses to their customer homes to issue IP addresses to everyone's collections of Beanie Babies and their pile of old pumps and sandals they only wore once or twice in the last two years.

Oh..and today in the news, there'll be news on Monday.

It totally did, haven't bought an overpriced Razer product in years and I'm doing just fine.

Changing the internet forever by screwing our entire customer base in the ass.

Verizon.

Holy shit, dude. You must work for the marketing department at Verizon. So, they are putting truth in advertising now? :)

Probably IPv6 support on their whole network. Although, the consumer wouldn't really care about that to make a marketing campaign. Maybe expanded FIOS support?

Probably something akin to when Apple had that big announcement for everyone and it turned out to be that they were now selling Beatles music on itunes. Big frigging deal...

I don't like their tone.

When some company says they are going to change the internet forever I get worried.

they decided to blow up the old 80's style territory agreements and will be making fios available across the whole country

I was at the Sprint store yesterday, lady said I would flip out over the new Fios bandwidth package. I asked her 150Mb/s? She said I was not even close. Dunno.

^Oh, there we go. I didn't know the estimated date would be the 17th... I guess now it's the 18th.

I'm sure it'll be amazing.

Love the marketing hype. This doesn't change anything. So the people on their network can download faster? Big deal. Get it to more places and we'll talk.

300/65 looks nice, but damn. I can see companies wanting the package, but unless I split it with my neighbors, I'd never do it.

I get 25/5 with my Cable (and I'm on the "middle" plan, 55/5.5 cost $99) and it costs less than their 3/1 plan. So screw Verizon and their silly pricing.

And cap it at 5 GB per month for the premium plan. :) And deny it causes brain cancer after extended exposure.

Well they are doubling/tripling their speeds soon.100mbps to 300 down and 65 up. And even the lower tiers are going to go up.

3/1 – offered as an upgrade to FiOS for DSL customers
15/5 – available as individual or bundle tier
25/25 – available as individual or bundle tier
35/35 – a bundled tier only
50/20 – available as individual or bundle tier
150/35 – available individually and with bundles in some markets; it requires a GPON optical network terminal, which is only available in GPON deployed central offices
300/65 – CNET - Verizon's 300 Mbps Fios plan to cost $205

Legacy speed tiers include: 5/2, 10/2, 15/2, 15/15, 20/5, 20/20, 25/15, 30/5, 30/15, and 35/20.

I couldn't give a rats ass about FiOS... JUST GIVE ME FRIGGEN LAND-BASED INTERNET OF ANY KIND!!!

Of course, Verizon won't be able to bring me anything phone-line based because AT&T owns the poles -_- Which they offer DSL out here, and all around me, but some paperwork (authorizing the crews to install whatever) got lost for our small strip of road and so we all don't get serviced... Literally an 1/8th mile down the road, where another joins in, DSL runs down that road and into the one I live off. Even wrote a letter to the Pres of AT&T Tennessee and he, in so many words, told us we're SOL and get their Wireless Broadband! Wonderful... except we told you in the initial letter that we are outside the AT&T tower's range!! We had AT&T Wireless for years and had to get Verizon when we moved down here...

Verizon's cell coverage sucks a big one, too, but I've ranted enough lol

Fios is never going to expand, and it covers a tiny bit of the market. So them claiming to change internet is dumb.

I pay $100/mo for Comcast 50/10; all of the FiOS plans starting at 150/65 and down are all cheaper than what I currently pay. If Verizon could just actually get FiOS out to places, I would dump Comcast. We need the competition because AT&T/U-verse is no competition for Comcast's speeds.

Other than expanding their wired FiOS coverage, I don't really know what Verizon could offer at a reasonable price. If they're now charging $50/5GB wireless phone data plans, surely they couldn't provide any other wireless internet services without it being outrageously overpriced.

I would die laughing if they said they were providing high-speed home wireless internet for $50/mo and it had something like a 150GB data cap or no cap. Hey smartphone users, get in line so we can drop a hot, steaming pile on your face and don't forget to bring this month's payment for your skimpy data allowance.

Whatever the news is it won't mean anything to me. I only have Verizon DSL available to me and it looks like they don't give a damn about putting FiOS in my area either.

It's going to be the iPhone 4S+ Verizon Edition with Facebook and Twitter buttons.

I'm with others in that, if it doesn't mean they are expanding FiOS coverage, I don't care.

Ditto. When they announced they had no plan to increase coverage beyond the areas (read richer neighborhoods) they're in now, they lost me forever. Their so-called high speed DSL is a complete joke, not much better than dial-up.
