ASUS Z77 Motherboards - Official Support Thread

It should not cause shutdown, but it will affect monitoring so best use one tool only.

Well anyway I'll try to unistall it and see if it makes any difference regarding the shut down. If not, then I'll be forced to go RMA.
One question Raja: what's Asus RMA policy here in Italy\Europe? Do I have to contact the shop or Asus directly?
And in case it's the shop, how can I prove the "defect" to them? They will test the mobo in their tech lab and (obviously) won't find any problem, since the board works perfectly and "just" shuts down at random. So they could refuse to send me another one! What am I supposed to do?

Thank you!

Looks like I'm at that point too, unless it could be monitoring issue. I tried +.04 and it shut off of me today. It's the Corsair cases!

What's the minimal amount of AI Suite that I need running for Fan Xpert to work? Or just rip it all out and see if it happens with BIOS controlling the fans? I have a feeling it's RMA time, blah.

For testing I would suggest "rip it all out" in order to fully rule out the AI Suite.

[edit] as of this edit (6/6/2012 2:05 am EDT) my PC has been up for 24 hours without issue since uninstalling the AI Suite. I'll be leaving it on overnight again.

I honestly have no idea on Italy/EU RMA so you'll have to contact Support in that region and find out. Every region has a different setup. Here in the US we offer X-ship on Pro models and above, other regions may not have facilities to do this.

By the way, what do you suggest for proving the issue to the shop (online) where I bought the board?
Thanks!

Contact ASUS Support in your region and ask them what to do I think.

I am going to post this question here and hope someone had better luck finding an answer. I am going to buy an asus z77 board and can't decide between the sabertooth z77 and the p8z77-v pro. Is fan xpert 2 better than thermal radar? Asthetics on the sabertooth are much better imo, but the pro comes with wifi....Also when are the thunderboltex cards coming out and any news on prices? Thanks

Please give me a link to the BIOS.

(p8z77-v deluxe bios 1205)

This link is from a user in Germany possibly in contact with ASUS Germany . I do not have this BIOS. I only have access to BIOSes that HQ clear for public beta. Whoever that user is likely a beta tester who likes bragging about having BIOSes early.

I saw you post on XS about this, too. Same response. I am fairly certain I have been through this with you before (your name is familiar). I will repeat once again so we don't keep going round in circles. I do not have any beta BIOSes here that I can post. I only post what I am cleared to post. I cannot help you.

Thanks

Sabertooth Z77
I updated my firmwarm to 1015 last weekend and lost my X-Fi PCIE soundcard.... Lots of people are having that issue.... Played around with some settings, no dice.. flashed back to 0906, issue fixed...

Raja@ASUS,

Since the Premium seems to be a higher version of WS, would the P8Z77-V Premium also support Xeon & ECC? What about VT-x & VT-d? Thanks.

I have a hunch the Broadcom controller is both WiFi and Bluetooth integrated, in which case it would explain why that LED is on when there is power to the IC. I will check with HQ tomorrow.

Any news about the Bluetooth LED?

No, I don't think it will as it does not fall under the WS team. Xeon support is generally reserved for the WS boards only. VT-x & VT-d, it's still the Z77 chipset so no support.

Not had anything back from HQ on that yet. My take is it is a hardware level issue, BUT it only consumes a few mW so it's not really a deal breaker.

I looked into this when I was buying boards. I believe the differences are:

Sabertooth/Thermal Armor:
- You can bind fan speed profiles to various temperatures and weighted averages of temperatures from the many "thermal armor" sensors placed in various locations on the board
- Same header layout as described below
- No auto-fan calibrate

P8Z77-V Pro / Fan Xpert 2
- Fan profiles can only react to "CPU" temperatures, which is the CPU socket temperature diode (not the actual core temps)
- 6 fan headers, 2 CPU headers can only control PWM (not 3-pin fans), 4 chasis headers can control both PWM and 3-pin fans via voltage, and you can mix and match 3/4-pin across different headers (e.g. I have 3x 3-pin and 1x 4-pin on my 4 chasis headers working perfectly)
- Fan Xpert has "auto calibrate" which senses the min/max speed of the fans to set the profiles, you cannot manually tell it what RPMs a fan can do

I ended up going V-Pro because I needed PCI, it was cheaper and I didn't want the 40mm fans nor thermal armor (and I don't care about aesthetics).

Raja, is there any reason why we can't change the chassis fan lower temperature in the UEFI BIOS? They're all set to 40 and grayed out (except the CPU (fan) Lower Temperature). This is for Asus P8Z77-V (and probably all other Asus Z77 line) BIOS 1015.

That and the inability to set the lower duty cycle below 60. The manual says it can be done, I read the manual before I bought this board, and now I find that unless I'm running Fan Xpert 2 (which is excellent), my machine is extremely noisy. My chassis fans go over 2000 RPM, but only around 600 is need to keep the temps good, and even when the system is under load only a little more is required.

HQ locked it at that after reports of fans not starting up, and they are sticking to it - nothing I can do to get that moved.

I don't really care about the power usage, it's the light that annoys me.
I'm still sure that it wasn't always like that, and some update caused the LED to stay on all the time.

When HQ responds I will have an answer for you. In the mean time, maybe use some black PVC tape over it if it is causing a disturbance.

The instruction manuals for the I series are downloadable on the product pages:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1155/P8Z77-I_DELUXE/E7098_P8Z77-I_DELUXE.pdf

Navigate to 2-34. There are some screws bundled with the board. If you use anything else that is non-standard you will need to ensure that the screws clamp the heatsink flush against the PCB.

One thing that I'm glad that ASUS does it make all their manuals available in PDF format - so you can bone up on your prospective motherboard before you buy it. (Yes; other mobo makers do this; however, ASUS still has the best layout for this.) Because the manuals are so well organized, I usually have to only come here (or look elsewhere on the Internet) for questions not covered by the (excellent) manuals.

I just wanted to provide an update to my random shutdown problem. It's been almost 60 hours since I removed the AI Suite software and have not had a random shutdown. I believe I resolved my issue. Based on discussions in this thread, I believe it was due to a conflict between the AI Suite monitoring software and the AIDA64 software.

I've disabled the monitoring function within Ai Suite as I use HWiNFO64 now. I was getting occasional weird values in my log (-127c temps, 2V on Vcore, 0V on 12V line etc) which I think might have been due to multiple applications polling while the CPU is under heavy load.

Raja: I really like Ai Suite on the Z77 boards, the way everything is tied nicely into one program (modular) and you can enable/disable with the checkboxes is awesome. Plus the UI actually looks pretty slick compared to some past Asus interfaces. Great job to Asus on this one.

Also confirming P8Z77-V having random shutdowns and having to unplug psu. Disabled monitoring, and cstates. So far so good. But still having initial startup problems. POST flickers and flashes splash screen 2 to 3 times. Disabling splash only hides the problem.

My update is that initially I removed all AI suite but Fan Xpert and Asus Update, the system run fine for 24 hours, than suddenly shut off.
Then I removed completely AI Suite (cleaning every leftovers in the registry too) and at the moment I'm on 26 hours of operation...don't want to call victory too early, let's see!

Are you running AIDA too?

I had an Asus Maximus IV Gene/ Gen3...

I did crossfire with 2 7950 and everything was working ok, I just replaced the motherboard because the space between the PCI-E slots as the top card was getting hot.

I got an Asus Sabertooth Z77, if I run one Graphic card it runs ok, if I run both without the crossfire bridge ok.. but if I put the crossfire bridge and turn on the crossfire I get blue screens sometimes when loading windows, opening games or turning on/off crossfire.

I already replaced the Sabertooth for another one, I updated the Sabertooth bios, I tried run the graphics cads on bios 1 or 2, I changed the drivers 12.2, 12.4, I tested without any overclock...

Any ideas???

Yes, I am. I definitely prefer having the AIDA sidebar gadget to be able to always have a quick look at the temps and stuff.
Right now it's been 36 hours of non stop operation...fingers crossed! :D

Will using a sandy bridge processor in a P8z77-v limit/change the use of any slot as compared to using an ivy bridge processor?

Wow that's pretty fast. I just updated my BIOS to 1015 last week. Wonder what's the changelog (it's not on the main site yet).

Can you link the main site please, would like to see the changelog.....

The BIOS is updated on the main page. I will flash it tonight. Hopefully, everything will go fine during and after update.

sry guys. Was in hurry for work! Yeah thnx others for making up infos of the changelog

Raja,

Is there anyway to change the "Minimum Fan Duty Cycle %" on an Asus Z77 Sabertooth? I have some very expensive sleeved PWM fans plugged into all my motherboard chassis fan slots and they are all running at like 40% speed or higher which is pretty much screaming loud. In the BIOS settings, it seems like the minimum speed is set to 60% and I cannot lower it while it is funny that the CPU duty cycle fans are allowed to run as low as 20% keeping them whisper quiet (they're all the same fans too) I use Thermal Radar and FanXpert2 to adjust speeds but the lowest I can set them is either completely off or a loud 40~60% range which again is too loud. I bought PWMs because I thought I could freely adjust the speeds but I think I just wasted a few hundred dollars (expensive Delta fans with custom sleeves) when I can’t even run them at less than 40% speeds.... Thanks...

The weird thing is if anything, I'd think it was the Fan xpert update, since my system didn't have any issues initially, so I thought maybe that update might be the cause. I noticed there's a new version of AI Suite on the ASUS site that has a few updates in it.

I stopped using one sidebar app to see if that effects the issue, so waiting a few days before updating BIOS or that AI Suite. If AI Suite is running all the time, I wish it would look for updates of any of it's pieces and offer them to us.

No way to change that, unfortunately. Id the thermal armour fan control software limiting you to the same values?
