Last of Us - Gameplay

The end of that sequence was insane. The dude at the very end...I've never seen a reaction like that from a NPC I was about to shoot. I wonder how much of that is scripted.

Oh Naughty Dog....

Game looks really fun. It's weird saying this but I'm so used to ND games looking good that the graphics really aren't impressive.

So is this what ND is doing now that the Uncharted series is done (supposedly, I guess they can always build on that story as long as Drake is alive)?

It looks like a slight variation of Uncharted, which isn't really a bad thing. Graphics and animation look identical. Gameplay a tad different since it seems a bit more realistic (enemies not just spraying constantly and reacting to you more believably). At least he's not jumping from wall to wall inhumanly like Drake does, lol. If it's half as good as the Uncharted games are, I will prolly buy it. Even though it didn't reveal much about the characters, they seemed interesting enough.

Naughty Dog has actually split into 2 teams now reportedly. I hope they are distracting us with this great looking game while the other team is developing a launch title for Orbis.

The last of us looks amazing though. Both Naughty Dog and Quantic Dream showed a lot of emotion in their demos I think.

It was all real game play footgage. The person playing was rotating the camera around and playing it in a cinematic way though. Some of the scenes of enemies hiding behind doors and such are probably scripted, where if you pass through it at a certain time you will get that encounter. It's still impressive looking game play.
console only right?
Thus the console thread my good sir.

Ahh yes, I see

I got here from the "new posts button" I had seen the trailer with the mushroomhead before.

Looks very fun, shame, as I have never owned a console.

This shit looks intense! I can't wait!
BEYOND: Two Souls also looks really good! I love the PS3! Way better exclusives. Hands down!

Shit like this is why I bought a ps3, you don't get games like this on other consoles or pc. It looked very good and the interaction with the bad guys was great

Exactly. People need to own PS3's to play Naughty Dog games. Another case in point here.

I'm primarily a PC gamer saying this btw. ;)

I just went from pc to ps3 because the exclusives look great and get good reviews. There is nothing like this on pc

I could never stick to one platform. I grew up with a PC and consoles I'm so used to it.

As soon as a saw the health bar i was sold.
Are you trying to say that non-regenerating health makes you manage your HP as a resource, which adds to the tension and thrill of game play as your character weakens as his health nears zero? Do you think that knowing you are near death, while desperately seeking another health kit to give you a 25% boost, would make you appreciate the combat, survivability, and overall atmosphere of the game world as a hostile and desolate place where you must do anything to survive. Is that what you are trying to tell us?

Best post I have read all day :D

I take back what I said about possibly being scripted at parts. There seems to be a system where when you suddenly encounter an enemy it causes you to grapple with them, then depending on what weapons they have, different outcomes can happen. The guy with the pipe was not scripted in, you can see him run in from off camera and hide behind the couch. He then sneaks into the other room and surprises you when you enter the room. The same thing happens towards the end when you surprise the enemy with the shotgun, again a surprise attack which results in a grapple. Also things like Ellie picking up the brick and using it at a convenient time, that may of just been a coincidence. I also like the little remarks from the characters like when Ellie throws the brick or the enemy here's Joel is out of ammo.

There's a reason why they picked this section of the game to highlight. They got the play through recorded just the way they wanted to show the game like it was a movie.

Pick up Resistance 3. Probably one of the best FPS I've played in a long while. Health bar and no limit on weapons one could carry. It is a bit on the short side though but worth at least renting IMO.

I have a feeling the game is going to be only 6-8 hours long though.

I don't really have a problem with this; after all, it's not an RPG.

Game looks phenomenal so far. Naughty Dog is clearly the most talented Ps3 developer, and it shows.

IMHO - Naughty Dog = worth owning Ps3 for; Epic & Bungie = worth owning 360 for.

Been watching this game for awhile now and can't to play it. Pre-ordered through Amazon. :D

Glad to see this will be a PC game. Looking forward to it! (I hate console gaming.)

eh? I thought it's PS3 exclusive.

The clip is BRILLIANT, no doubt about it, but I can't escape the feeling the game will end up being way too scripted. Yeah, some stuff won't be, but you can't have stuff like the motion captured animation of catching the guy against the wall and then ramming his face into the table nearby. That stuff was all mocapped so there's no way that part was some kind of randomly generated moment.

My bad. Wrong thread.

Heavily scripted pornographic murder simulator. All of the gratuitous violence is lovingly crafted, but frankly I'm over being led by the hand through lovingly crafted graphical tours-de-force.

The wise cracking young lady is also priceless. Gee, wonder if that's a defense mechanism? Wonder if her veneer of detachment will shatter after a particularly grisly encounter resulting in a touching father daughter moment.

Games as movies suck balls. Console development is straight up in the toilet. Every AAA is focused on graphics, events, spectacle and everything except playing a damn game. I'm pretty much done with any game that comes in a box. Everything worthwhile is on Steam, PSN or XBLA.

U MAD BRO?

resulting in a touching father daughter moment

They're not father and daughter.

I also think it's humorous that you're judging a fully completed finished game based off a 7 minute E3 video of a game in alpha status.

I'm pretty much done with any game that comes in a box. Everything worthwhile is on Steam, PSN or XBLA.

Your loss. Going by your knee-jerk over-reaction, I'd say the gaming world will not miss you either.

Hearing this game is PS3 exclusive makes me sad. This game is going to make me re-purchase a PS3, play/beat this game, then let the console collect dust until I sell it on Craigslist for the THIRD time.

There are some amazing PS3 games. Don't know why you'd sell it the first time, nevermind a third
