SILVERSTONE TJ08E - New MicroATX Case

yeah i have mine setup as ap181 intake blows air to the push/pull kuhler 920 which sucks and pulls air out through the rad

I have the same on my TJ08 (push/pull exhaust) but either the H50 is better than my current H60 or intake is better because I have the same CPU on an SG05 with an H50 (push only intake) and it idles about 8c lower than my TJ08.

I'm thinking on reversing the AP181, it would be a great exhaust since my GPU has a non blower style cooler and reversing the H60 too so it's intake push/pull but I need to get a fan filter first :D

I've thought about that too might try it and see what happens

I've got it sitting in a window with direct airflow from outside available

^^^^

Thanks for the feedback guys, will setup as push/pull exhaust. What about PSU orientation? Silverstone recommends fan facing down if it's 120mm and over. My 1200G has 135mm and I've setup it up as they've recommended w/ the short-cable set (which rocks BTW) It seems to be working great, as it's exhausting warm air from my GPU.

Also, I ordered the Silverstone slot-load DVDR/bay cover from Amazon. Once I get it installed I'll share some pics.

just added a video card + CPU cooler + another HDD to my TJ08-E..

This is really reassuring. I just bought this case, and have the exact same video card, and cpu cooler as you. I was really worried that even though the specs say the cpu cooler should fit, that it wouldn't.

Whew!

fwiw i'll post pics of the 7970 i will put in mine

just waiting on my X6 Elite I ordered from NewEgg last night. I got my slim-drive, 5.25 bezel and 512GB Samsung 830 installed this morning. the bezel is awesome in it's own right since it can hold four 2.5 inch drives, which makes for clean cable management.

I should have my cooler by Friday, I'll post pics when it's installed.

Question for those of you who have installed the 200mm rad in the front, do you loose the ability to use a card reader in the bottom 3.5" bay?

I can check, but i think you lose the 3.5" slot.

Edit:
Ye, you lose it.

That design reminds me of certain InWin cases from the 90s :D

Seriously.

I had that case too. Hated the damn thing.

Also, it's odd they make everything white, EXCEPT one black plastic piece that's used to hold the drive cage in place.

Ok back onto the watercooling thoughts,

Will the Phobya Xtreme 200mm Radiator fit ok? or if not the Magicool Slim 180mm Single, not sure which one people use?

I use the Phobya Xtreme 200mm Radiator and it is "bolt on", you need to find new screws sins the stock fan is 38mm thick or buy 2xPhobya 180mm fans that are 25mm.

finished my build several weeks ago, but was just too lazy to upload any pics so I decided to get off my ass today and contribute to this awesome thread...

damn ur build looks so much better than mine, can i see the backside how you wired it?

Heres mine :) Freezer Pro CPU cooler has been replaced with an antec kuhler 620 until I decide where to go with full blown watercooling

still can't decide between the A04 and this case.

Is build quality/finish as good as Lian-Li?

i haven't used the a04 but i have the tj08e and it's just awesome. i'd say the build quality is great, nothing feels flimsy, everything is made out of good quality material and is sturday and it's all blacked out and spacious. The 180mm fan in the front puts out huge amounts of air too

thanks! this helps.

I think I will go ahead with this case.

EDIT:

Got the case. :)

$97 with free Prime shipping from Amazon.

Case looks great. Not as deep as my A05, which is a big plus. Build quality seems excellent.

Is it possible to rotate the hard drive cage 90 degrees? If not does the case have the space to allow this modification?* It bothers me that I will probably have to buy another CPU heatsink because of the hard drives protruding from the cage.
*Nevermind, it's possible.:)

My planned build with this case.

Asus HD7750
i3570 (no OC)
Corsair A50

I was wondering if I would even need an exhaust fan, as I was thinking of putting the CPU fan on the back-side of the cooler (facing the exhaust hole), so its drawing heat away from the HS, while the 180mm case fan pushes air to the front side of the HS.

I'm going for low power consumption, and low noise on this build, so the less fans, the better.

Thoughts?

Love this case.

ASROCK z77 pro matx
i5 3570k (oc 4.5 ghz)
Galaxy GTX 580
16GB Low-pro Vengeance
128GB Intel 320 SSD
1TB WD CB HDD
620w Seasonic PSU

where else are you guys mounting your SSD, besides the bottom of the case?

I've removed both drive cages entirely.

There's plenty of ways to be creative with SSD placement.

It was either in this thread or on OC3D that I saw someone mount one on the back tray through the air vent holes with 2 screws - there's a small lip there that would assist with holding the SSD in place. To do this you'd have to screw it in prior to putting in a motherboard though.

When I was using the case I simply had the large HDD cage out and the SSD tucked sideways into the corner in the little gap between the side door and smaller cage.

You are one of the few people I have been able to find using that slot load ssd adapter, can you tell us a bit more about it? I have a laptop drive with no bezel and im just wondering what happens with the button, do you just use the windows eject function?

The only review I was able to find shows a slim drive with bezel behind the faceplate of the adapter and with a button on it, does the faceplate slightly 'sink' in if u push it in order to push the button?

Thanks a lot!

finally got mine setup.

one of the easiest builds ever. cable management was a breeze.

Case was flimiser than I had hoped for, but still a very good quality case.

The intake fan, even at lowest speed, is a bit noisy for my liking.

For those of you guys who have changed fans? What alternatives are there?

It seems the Phobya is the only other 180mm fan available, what version have you guys used?

I feel the same way. Even at 700 rpm, the 180mm Silverstone fan is just way too loud for my taste.

From what I read, there Noisblocker will soon release a 180mm fan in its Bionic Loop series. That thing should be much more quite...

Picked up one of these Case's for my girlfriends pc. The Lianli V351, just wasnt cutting it on the cooling side anymore with an X58 chipset and a 7950 (heavily modded case too).

still a work in progross, but It has a Asus Rampage III gene, I7 950 @4ghz, antec 920 with push/pull Noctua NF-P12. The MSI 7950 has a ARCTIC COOLING ACCEL-X-7970 on it.

I got a Noctua NC-U6 Northbridge heatsink on the way, with some Mosfet copper sinks. BIG work in progress, ill post picks next week when all the parts get here.

1 thing she really hates (and I agree), that damn 180mm fan is LOUD. So I will order Phobya 180mm G-Silent fan for it.

Overall this is a DAMN good case.....If you are on the fence about buying it...just stop reading and order it. It's worth every penny

Besides the included speed switch, you can use the motherboard to control AP181's fan speed via voltage adjustment. Nearly all enthusiasts motherboards nowadays allow you to do this and it's free.

So I highly recommend that you guys give AP181 a second chance before buying another fan. The AP181 is capable of starting as low as 5V so it will spin down to 500rpm, which should be really quiet. We have a Q&A section on the AP181 product page that goes into a little bit more detail on what you can do:
http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=258&area=en#tab6

Here is also another really good article on software fan control that could be applied to AP181 (and other case fans):

Thank you Tony! You were absolutely right about giving the AP181 a second chance.

Previously I had set the mainboard chassis fan control to the minimum value (level 1 in Asrock Z77 Pro4-M bios, no idea what actual voltage that corresponds to). With this setting, I got 700rpm with the speed switch set to high. When I set it to low, the AP181 would stop spinning, so I assumed that it could not go below 700rpm.

After reading your post, I decided to play with the bios settings some more, this time setting the speed switch to low. And indeed, at level 4 the fan started spinning at 420rpm. At level 6, it goes up to ~600rpm, which is the sweet spot for me.

Now I'm completely happy with the case!

(If only I could install the hd cage without sacrificing the front usb3 connector...)

On the Maximus Gene V, you can only change the Duty Cycle, with the lowest being 60% which makes the AP181 run at ~780rpm.

I wish I could get it down to 600-700rpm in BIOS, but that doesn't seem possible. Not for this mobo at least.
