My kids (4 years old and 2 years old) always bugging me when im gaming. everytime they tried the game i play, they got bored after couple minutes. they are too young to understand english and gameplay rules. i would like to introduce to them video game as an entertainment and a learning element. i own wii, ps3, xbox360 and 2 high end gaming pc(i frequently coop gaming with my wife)

here are the game that my kids enjoy playing.
1. angry bird. while they dont understand the gaming concept of angry birds, they had good laugh when they can interact with the environment with the birds they threw. since there is a lot of variety in the game, this games keeps em glued for weeks.
2. garrys mod. my kids love putting zombie inside the game and interact with it. plus, there is endless of items that can be spawn and interact. plus, they can get creative with the game.

im looking for other game that might interest small kids. any recommendation?

i did try minecraft. i found it too complex for my kids. or is there a kid mod that i should know of?

thanks.

Have you tried the creative mode? No monsters, no resources, just build / destroy whatever you want.

I actually found HL2DM which is free decent. . Once you teach them how to use the grav gun they can screw around in these pointless levels for hours killing really lame AI head crabs and so on and moving things around / building stuff.

Terraria is also ok.

show them how to place dynamite and set it off.. they will have fun for hours with that.

also the games i found that my younger(well not that young anymore) cousin enjoyed were the old games like monster madness 1 and 2 and shit like that from when we were younger. i'd say racing games or anything with driving works the best because they are to young to care if they win and crashing stuff seams to make them happy. hell maybe even dirt 2 or 3 would work.

Not sure if the violence of the game is appropriate but you said they play garry's mod with a zombie but as far as sandbox game, Crackdown was fun to play. You play as a cop so the violence is kind of justified, lol. It is a 360 only game. You play a genetically engineered super cop that can jump over buildings once you collect enough orbs. I played that game for a solid year when it came out. You get penalized for hitting normal people, the normal cops will go after you.

This. The real sandbox. Outdoors. In the sunshine.

Seriously, at 4 years, I think only a very elemental interactive game would work.
My children.....now in college......used to use educational software for ABCs and numbers.....they couldn't follow the games, but that was before XBox and kinect, way before.

My son used to watch me play video games, until his 4th birthday when I got him Toy Story 3 for the 360. After watching me play for 30 seconds he took the controller and never looked back. From there he really got into the Lego games. I find the older Lego games to be easier and more enjoyable for younger kids (Lego Star Wars 1 and 2, Indiana Jones 1, Batman).

The Lego games aren't sandbox games, but Toy Story 3 has what is called a Toy Box mode, which is basically an area where you can run around and do whatever. There are missions if you choose to do them, but it is optional.

Third'ed. But to actually answer the OP, there is also a game on Steam, I believe called Universe Sandbox. I think it may be too complex, but they may just be able to throw planets in there and spin them really fast, which could be fun.

There was that Simpsons game that was in a GTA style but dont remember the name
