Nice, clean looking sign for a place that's been closed down ~10 years ago ;)
 
I was driving by and done a u-turn to snap a photo with my iPhone. I think they leave it up to tease us... like you said its been closed for close to 10 years now.
 
Just got my first DSLR, and am getting used to playing with it. I need some time to experiment with ISO and Aperature settings more, since I like fiddling with depth of field. Also, would like to take some HDR shots, but my camera (Nikon D3100) lacks a bracketing mode.
Anyway, check em out here if you want more (featuring my wife, to lure you there, lols).

An adolescent Robin a few hours from flying. He fell out of his tree just outside my office window, and he hopped right up to me when I went out to take a few. And yes, I am terribly allergic to that cottonwood crap. It looked like it had snowed. This was a bumper-crop year.

Excellent pictures hedonsim! I am getting myself an ND filter myself (it's on the way), and I cant wait to be pulling off stuff like that.

:pthanks man. Although I do own a Hoya ND8 and ND400 they are 58mm threads and these were actually taken with a Sigma 10-20mm that has a 77mm thread. So, filter free until I buy some 77mmm filters! Sunset was at 17:54 and the first image was taken at 18:00, and was actually quiet a bit under exposed. The second image was a 30sec exposure taken at 18:14. No filters required this time! :)

Transit of Venus across the sun.

7:56PM in Minnesota. 100% view. 300mm. 1/4000s, F/22. 10stop B+W filter.

8:47PM in Minnesota. Partial Crop, 300mm. 1/15s - F/11.10stop B+W filter.

This image lacks sharpness from the slow shutterspeed, but still shows Venus. The sun moves very fast when viewed at 300mm, and the next shot Venus was already covered by the tree branches.
 
Sweet pictures of the transit. I tried getting some scenery in mine but wasn't able to...
 
I think you've got some dust on your sensor :)

That's what I thought till I noticed that both "RyanGSams" and "MN Scout" have dust in the same spot. Then I realized it wasn't dust!

Yeah the bigger spots are not dust. Some of the lighter spots may be dust, I was at F/22.

Many people have this big black circle spot, but it is in different places, so I'm thinking that is for sure dust.:)
 
Very cool timelapse video from Nasa of the Venis Tansit. The video shows the sun through different filters and light wavelengths.

Over a six-hour period on June 5-6 2012, the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) collected images in many wavelengths of one of the rarest predictable solar events: the transit of Venus across the face of the sun. These transits occur in pairs eight years apart that are separated from each other by 105 or 121 years. The last transit was in 2004 and the next will not happen until 2117.

Lots of great shots lately! I've been gone the last week on a road-trip to New Orleans and San Antonio. Surprisingly didn't have time to go into [H] withdrawal as I expected. Took over 1300 pics, so I'll have plenty to post over the next few weeks as I get them processed. Plenty of random urban shots, went to a few zoo's, went on a cave exploration tour, and went to the beach briefly. Lots of fun stuff.
 
^^ Wow - great landscape! Is this HDR or stitched multiple photos, or just one shot with the clarity cranked up? Turned out great either way.
