Watch Dogs

Started to watch the video this morning from another thread and closed it as soon as I saw Ubisoft.

You're missing out.

Honestly, if the game is fun I will get it. Doesn't matter what grievances others have with Ubisoft, fun games will always be fun and that is the point of gaming, to have fun.

Not everyone, but quite a few.

Everyone that matters. It's pretty much either Origin or Steam now and even Steam gets stuck with 3rd party DRM half the time. Every developer is going to come up with their own distribution service because they don't want Valve to be the only one swimming in money.

Looks pretty damn sweet. Demo must have been running on a PC. Lets hope Ubi don't fuck it up with their inanely over the top DRM.
Ubisoft confirmed to a French gaming website the demo was indeed running on a PC. I hope too the game will not be hindered by ridiculous DRM because this game was the most interesting announcement at E3 for me and I'm very eager to know more about the project.

GTA4 was lifeless and boring, this looks to remedy the sour taste I got from that.

Saw ubisoft, turned away..

Your loss.

I figured I'd come in here this morning and see the usual hate and bullshit. Good God people.

Let me try this one time: IT ISN'T ALWAYS ONLINE DRM ANYMORE! IT HASN'T BEEN FOR A QUITE A WHILE!

This will be a day one buy for me. I'd by a system for it if I have to. Upgrade my PC, whatever it takes.

This and The Last of Us are the two crown jewels by far of the E3 that I've seen thus far. Dishonored might be the other one.

I think they still have it for some games but whatever. Ubi doesn't even appear to be close to discussing platforms or a release date for this game so at this point it's fairly pointless to worry about DRM or anything else. I'm more interested in how dynamic the situations will be.

It's funny Ubisoft has the most titles that interest me out of E3 this year. This, AC3, AC3 Liberation, Far Cry 3, ZombiU (horrible name), tentatively interested in that Avengers game, and maybe the Wii U Rayman title.

upon glancing at the trailer, the only thing that occurred to me was;

...
..

na, but I'm pretty impressed with how awesome the graphics are. The game just looks so fucking smooth. Like you're playing the character in real life. Terrific atmosphere and the pacing seems like it's gonna be gold. Can't wait to try it out

I've never been a fan of Ubisoft games at all, or their DRM schemes that add no other value except to Ubi. But damn that gameplay intro was amazing...not necessarily brand new ideas, but definitely looks like some new gameplay concepts and some very cool stuff. It was good enough that after first thinking, "9 min gameplay video? F that..." by the end I was chomping at the bit for more.

It looks exactly like what I wanted for GTA4. It would have been a big change in the series, I know, but GTA is getting a bit stale IMO.

After Red Dead and MP3 I have to say I'm really interested in seeing where Rockstar is going to go with GTA5. They tried to tell a serious story with 4 and I think they failed completely by making Niko a horrible character and the story not really work but they have vastly improved their storytelling since then and I think there is a good chance of them pulling it off now.

They've also been shown up IMO to some degree or another since GTA 4 first off by their own release: RDR.

For me, RDR was and is an all around better game across the boards than GTA 4 and it's a crying shame it's apparently never coming to the PC.

Past that, the Saints Row series in terms of the overall fun wild and open world with TONS of customization and things to do. Saints Row 3 looks great, runs great, is ridiculously fun to play and there's always something to do in it. The only thing it doesn't have is a serious, strong narrative because that's not what that series is about.

Somewhere along the lines GTA suddenly started to take itself TOO seriously in part 4 so I'm hoping a little more balance comes back for 5. Bring back freedom, customization, and tons of things to do.

GTA IV's DlC was better than the main game especially Ballad of Gay Tony. I didn't give a damn about Niko.

In other ways, I feel like Just Cause 2 even did some things better than GTA4 especially in terms of some of the controls and particularly vehicles and most especially flying vehicle controls. Flying in GTA games is a nightmare. Part 5 needs to fix that.

Rockstar doesn't exclusively own this turf anymore IMO so part 5 needs to be the big guns firing on all levels.

You can't really get annoyed with people when they say "I'm not buying this" when you're sitting here saying "I'm buying this on day one". It's fundamentally the same thing — running headlong into something blindly, just with different outcomes. You run toward it blindly; others run away from it blindly; the people in sitting in the middle are the only ones being objective about it.

Not at all. Based on all present available media, I'm looking at a product that merits a day one buy for me. Obviously that can change as time unfolds.

Shooting blind would mean hitting this thread, seeing the thread title and saying "I'm buying this game" without even looked over any material about it.

That's a world of difference from "I saw the name Ubisoft and hit the X button" and so forth.

This is a banal conversation by the way. I hope it's not going to continue.

*yawns* Sure.

You are so completely wrong it's funny. There is a HUGE difference between saying "Hey this game looks awesome and based on what I've seen so far it looks like it will be a day 1 buy" and not even giving it a chance because of some silly BS. There is no such thing as true objectivity.

I love it when I see people talk about "unbiased opinions." There's no such thing or concept.

Anyways...Watch Dogs! YEAH!

I suggest using the ignore feature if you don't wish to witness it.

That isn't what he said. What he said was:

If he had said "based on what I've seen so far it looks like it will be a day 1 buy" I wouldn't have said anything. Based on what he said, he's being as irrational as any of the people stating that they aren't going to buy it because it's a Ubisoft title. In his post, he condemns such irrationality while at the same time engaging in it, and I don't abide such blatant hypocrisy.

...and not even giving it a chance because of some silly BS.
I'm not defending the people who aren't going to give it a chance.

Whoa, i come in today and there is a thread in the PC section for this game?
Did I miss something overnight? Was a PC version confirmed? Whats the score here?

Yeah, the video was 9 minutes of gameplay which appeared similar to a souped-up and more fun version of GTA. You can't blame people for getting excited about that.

If this ends up pretty dynamic and has open ended solutions, like the video kinda implies, there would be some good replay value. Depending on the length of the game.

It looks like it could be impressive. Because it is Ubisoft it is a no buy for me. Before you burn me alive though, let me say that once Ubisoft changes their image and business practices I will give them another shot. Perhaps this is the first title in a new direction, but I won't be a crash test dummy for them. I'll play the wait and see game just like I will for EA and Activision titles.

Yep! Me too. Looks fuckin sweet GTA/DXHR

I couldn't watch the entire video because i'm at work. Did it show gunplay? I hope for 1st person gunplay how DXHR pulled it off. That's the first game i ever enjoyed the 3rd person camera.

3rd person cover-based shooting. Hard to gauge how good or bad gunplay is based on a video. He seemed to move smoothly between cover at least.

The animations i saw were pretty damn flawless and realistic looking.

Yeah. Ubi Montreal really has good animation down. AC3 had really smooth animation too but I think Watch Dogs had better. Also did you see his coat?! It was moving naturally and didn't clip!

What is with you and the damn coat! :p

Because it looked amazing! I love seeing impressive animation and physics effects. They are so rare these days that I really pick up on that stuff. Also did you notice how the cars didn't explode when shot and how the glass didn't shatter into billions of pieces from a single handgun bullet? Love that.

Wow, I must say I am impress by the numbers of people they have around which really makes the world realistic. I don't think I've seen any other games yet with such crowded environment.

Of course the technical side of thing isn't everything a game is about. If the gameplay is fun (how the controls feel, how scripted or dynamic the world is, etc), this could turn out to be a great title.

As much as I'm looking forward to AC3 I have to say it looks a bit dated next to this thing, especially if we're talking about all console footage here across the boards.

I could be kidding myself but if Ubi Montreal has been working on this for two years, there's a decent chance this things streets for the holidays this year. Going to be interesting.

Same here. What gets me even more jazzed up is again, if it looks this good on console footage, what am I going to see when I crank it up on the PC?

C'mon folks...that's a thought worth getting a little "irrational" and even "hypocritical" for. ;)

It's only a nine minute video but methinks they're going to have to try pretty damned hard to screw that up. Like others have said: The video implies a bit of an open world with some freedom and variety of choices. If that's the case...wow.
