For those of you that haven't grabbed the new Windows 8 Release Preview, I recommend you head on over and grab Microsoft's latest try-before-you-buy version of Windows 8. I recommend grabbing the ISO image (here) and burn it to a DVD.

It's Windows reimagined and reinvented from a solid core of Windows 7 speed and reliability. It's an all-new touch interface. It's a new Windows for new devices. And it's easy to try now—whether you're installing it for the first time, or moving from Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

I think I'll pass on this one.

After trying the Consumer Preview I'm not even going to waste my bandwidth.

I am passing as well. It should be interesting to see how sales go for Win8. I think mid next year I will be building a new system to replace my ageing Q6600 / ATI 3870 :)

This is probably going to be the first Windows that I will skip...

That is if they force me to use Metro interface on my desktop......

Windows 8
no windows aero , back to solid blocks ackkkkk , so xp ishhhh
no start menu , if it works dont fix it I dont care if its been on since 94
metro display built more for a tablet or phone than windows , ya now well all buy 24 inch touch screens , ya sure . . .
quicker boot . . . but um i have a ssd all ready , Placebo effect , cause either is fast
underneath the system is windows 7 , with a whole bunch of half witted ideas to take our money . . . till they fix them all again in windows 9 , and well pay again

First windows I'm passing up ,

Have to say, with my Windows Phone/Xbox and touchscreen I'm loving this ecosystem.

After installing Classic Start Menu, and figuring out how to put the "real" My Computer icon onto the desktop, I'm finding this quite nice. It feels much faster than Vista SP2 (Win7), and this is just running in a VM!

Have to say that I'm totally hating the lack of real "MS" Start Menu, and totally despise Metro. If only it could be setup so that it goes to desktop mode as default!

I wonder why Hardocp is recommending this OS. I see nothing for me here. Windows 7 will serve me well into the future.

I'm really not liking what I hear out of Windows 8 so I'll pass. Removing some of the better features of Windows and taking 7's much more polished and stable OS and throwing the "barf" of Metro UI on it just turns me completely off.

I'd rather use an OS that MS isn't trying to turn into a glorified smartphone tablet.

Yeah, there was absolutely no reason to REMOVE functionality, especially since it is built on Win7. Metro should be an option, not a requirement that needs to be hacked around. Management at Microsoft has been brain dead these past few years. Wait for Win9.

You think Win9 is going to magically go back to something?

Installed in VirtualBox and it is running terribly slow. Not sure what the issue is. Will try again later in VMWare. Not impressed so far.

Funny that you say that, as we have not seen a truly new version of Windows since Vista! I'm not going to put money on Win9 being much more than Vista SP4.

Hey, just noticed that they fixed the jerky animated mouse pointers! That's been there since Win7 RTM. lol

What the heck, "Your PC's CPU isn't compatible with Windows 8"
Worked fine with the previous preview, and the requirements state 1 GHz anyway (I have 2.13.)

I guess I am also skipping this version. I'll probably just have a Storage Spaces server somewhere to play with when it releases.

wow. Never saw so many .(out some not so offensive word here). in one place.
By far , best windows ever. Using on my work lenovo t410 since CP, and at first it was so difficult for me. I wanted to cut my balls for what i did. (it tooks more than 6hs of work to fully prepare my workstation to be able to do my work).
Now going back to 7 is a no brainer. really
BTW... working as Wintel administrator and also doing some Vmware admin tasks (vcp on 3.5)
If it helps to someone to see.
I truly recommend it as main OS, as you will never understand the concepts and how good it truly is, until you have to learn to be able to use it.
Hope you try and like it as i did and be able to enjoy. Metro is here to stay, and it truly delivers. Everything is faster now. You have to try and adapt a little bit. In the short run, rewards are great

By the time win7 went to RC, pretty much all my customers had it installed.

As of today none of them have even tried the win 8 beta.

As for myself I installed the Dev preview but haven't touched it since.

64-bit CPU?

I think I'll skip this one too. Though I have not yet used Windows 8 I've heard enough to know that this is not what I want!

I find the RP to be much faster and smoother than the CP. However, there are no bible apps in the Metro store at the moment. :( No Netflix app either and Metro IE does not support silverlight.

I realize that this is an RC but they dang well better rectify those issues before they get to RTM. Otherwise, as I said, it seems to work much better.

Oh, and the Media Center Pack is not available for download yet either.

Does it need a Netflix app? I was able to download and install Silverlight, and can watch Netflix in IE (and other browsers for that matter) with little effort. PM me if you need help getting it running.

Screw that. No we don't.

I don't recollect seeing one single ounce of the Bullshit in Win8 on anyone's wish or demand list.

Windows 7 has full support until 2020. Maybe MS will figure out their screw up by then.

Yeah, a Core 2 6420 antique. I'll sell my MS stocks now, this will be a disaster. It's now too late to change anything before the release.

You are correct in that I can run it in IE10 and Firefox. However, I still prefer to use a Media Center Remote which, with a netflix app, would work well.

Have Metro, will not travel.

For the first time in a long, LONG time, I'm taking a pass on Microsoft's new OS. Looks like it's going to be Win7 Pro for a long time to come.

Gotta love the new fisher price operating system with it's plethora of AOL baby blocks.

Nice! Enjoy the $haft people! :D

While I personally agree with all of you that this doesnt look good, I remember XP being the same and everyone saying Windows 2000 was perfect. Ill wait and see how it goes.

LOL, enjoy losing money. P.S. Enjoy your several-years-old computer, too... shame it won't run one of the best operating systems known to man, but the rest of us will try to wave to you limping behind...

Same Issue, Very odd, I'm running Win8 consumer on my test bench yet I go to install RC it says my pentium 4 2.8 is not compatible. I D/L the 32bit version. Oh well...

Ok so the question comes up again. How much of this rejection is old dogs not wanting to learn new tricks again? Vista was too different for some folks to adapt, so they stuck with XP. Metro is not even Windows as we know it anymore, not to mention the ones that switched to Vista pretty easy before are now many years older and probably more stubborn. Reject Windows 8 if you will, but this is just the beginning of a new style of using a pc. If and when this works and becomes accepted, it's not going to get anymore familiar. Apple, Google, Linux all of them will migrate away from the familiar desktop eventually and we'll look back years from now thinking how old and archaic the desktop looks. Or not, who knows.

OMG! Windows 8 is so AWESOME. It like put more bits into my download. And it like made my quad core processor into an 8 core like the 8 in Windows 8. And it like has so much colors. Like I see so many different blues and reds and greens! OMG!

Take a close look at the large rotating circle mouse pointer. It skips a frame at the end of the animation where the blue light is nearly at 12 o'clock. The accidentally repeated a frame.

The animation was fine in Vista, and they screwed it up when they released Win 7. Surprised they did not fix it in SP1.

I wager that even your own flatulence radiates a blissful fragrance mixed in with that special concoction of grandiose delusion...
