SSD performance increase from SATA2 > SATA3...worth it?

I currently have an MSI P55-GD65 motherboard. It only supports SATA2 and I just got myself the OCZ Vertex 4 256GB.

Will I see a massive performance increase by moving to a mobo with SATA3 (in everyday usage)?

If so, which mobo is a good replacement (LGA 1156)?

I don't think you can have Intel SATA3 with that socket anyway.
 
You will probably only see the difference in benchmark numbers really. The real world performance difference would be very very small, if even noticeable.
 
Since you'd have to get a whole new expensive intel platform for it i'd say it's not worth it.
 
Only your sequential read/write saturate the sata2 channel. your random 4k and 64k are not fast enough to saturate the sata2 channel on your p55 mobo. You will only see an improvement when you copy video files on the SSD.

Your money is better spent getting dual 128GB ssd raid. None of the motherboards in that socket will offer true 6gbps sata3 performance that you get for free with sandy bridge and ivy bridge. The marvell sata3 controller i have on my x58 motherboard is a joke, it performs worse then the intel ICH10R sata2 controller.

Except tons of small random data requests could bog down the controller, so it's not just about the speed of large sequentials. Though I would only upgrade if you are a big multitasker.

What are you talking about? Intel platforms are no more expensive than an AMD FX platform when you compare performance.

Agreed. The main reason for buying a SSD is random performance and for that you will generally not be hampered by a noticeable amount since all SSDs but the recently released vertex 4 do not saturate SATA2 during random operations.

Agreed. Short of buying a $400+ SAS controllers there does not exist a SATA3 controller that performs better than the Intel SATA2 ports as far as latency goes that remember latency is the reason you buy an SSD.
