Do you guys format data drives?

Kind of a stupid question, but do you guys typically reformat your data drives when they aren't fragmented? Like do you guys purposely move your files away from that hard drive to reformat it periodically.
 
re-format? no. Unless you're using the drive for some serious server duty, a fragmented data drive should have marginal impact on usage. At worst you can de-fragment the drive, but re-formatting isn't necessary.

never full format a ssd. i did that once with an intel g1 80gb, the thing stop working properly.

No I do not do that. I do defrag (on spinning disks) because as a programmer I have a lot (millions) of small files and thousands of them change daily causing very high levels of fragmentation if I do not defrag for some time.

I keep my OS/basic Apps on one partition/drive and Data on another so there is no need to format, just a good defrag once in awhile.
 
That would cause unnecessary wear but not drive death. Drive death was because there was already an existing problem with the drive.
