Does the 670 support 3+1 multi monitor config like the 680 does?

That's my sole holdup on buying one this morning! I want to make sure it's a one card solution for NVSurround gaming like the 680 is.

The review says it has all the same features. Its a 680 with some cores disabled and reduced clocks.
 
I dual boot as I do work in Linux. I haven't yet had an Nvidia card that can do 3+ monitors without xinerama. Anyone know if this will? If so this might be worth it for me....On a 6850 now...

Wow thats a damn good card for $399.

That cooler does look odd since its longer then the PCB itself......Cant wait to see some cooling solutions that aren't longer then the PCB. That would be interesting lol.

Cant wait for the 670 OC vs 680 to show up!

I'd like to that see too. I wonder why manufacturer's have not taken advantage of the short PCB.

The heatsink probably needs to be as big as it is in order to maintain thermals the way it does. I'd expect a shorter card to need to be a 3-slot variant to keep temperatures in check.

I think this has been the most frustrating generation of graphics cards
 
There are 4GB 670's in stock on the EVGA website for $470 each. I'm glad to start seeing some 4GB Keplers. I regularly hit 2GB in Arma 2 eyefinity, so Arma 3 is going to need some serious vram and horsepower. I am curious to see some surround benchmarks in the future.

Who would want to buy the 470....thats 2 generations old! /sarcasm
 
so they turned off some shaders and lowered the power consumption? I like the simplicity.
 
So.. Here is the dilemma.

Game at 1080P for now, not sure if I will ever upgrade to a dual monitor solution.

Asus OC 670 or Sapphire 7970OC ?

I'm really on the fence. Primarily play BF3 and will probably play Max Payne 3 and anything Valve unleashes that is an FPS..
 
I know you guys use price point, but I would have liked to seen how the 670 compares to a 7970. My hope is that this drives the price down on 7970 even more. I think a direct comparison with a statement asking if the 7970 performed $50 better would put pressure on AMD.

Wow, the GTX 670 is just the best price/performance card out there atm. At current prices there's no reason to get a 7950/7970/680.

Let's hope for a price war!
 
The 670s look like a great deal, particular the ones on a 680 PCB and factory overclock. I can see many people who were looking to buy a 680 buying factory overclocked 670's instead. Maybe this will ease the demand on 680 stock and we will finally start seeing better availability and stores charging over MSRP.

Is your need for multi-monitors the reason why you do not use a VM instead of dual booting?

Really only if you are an early adopter. I'm going to wait until NV releases their 660 series to make a decision, but then again I only run 1680x1050 so I guess you gotta take that into account.


But this review is interesting. I regularly see 7970's being sold on the FS section here and at AT for ~$420 shipped. So I wonder how long the 670's will stay at that price point. I really want to see what NV has at the $250 price point for "normal" gamers like me.
 
They should compared GTX 670 with 7970. When it has outperformed 7950, it can be on par with 7970. So why would someone spend extra 70 bucks for 7970 when they will get almost the same perfomance with GTX 670.

overclocked 7970 will run circles around overclocked 670.

It is compared oveclocked to the 680 on page 7. Hopefully the smarter ones out there will be able to put the pieces together from there. But I can see a direct comparison coming soon.

I just looked over at AnandTech's review too, and if you don't mind a few FPS difference the $400 GTX 670 has better value over a $450 7970. HardOCP's benchmarks (if you compare the original GTX 680 article to this one) mirror those results. AMD's going to have to lower their prices...again...
 
Great card! Can it run 3 displays off one card? Not necessarily surround, but just power 3 displays

Yes. The only difference between the GTX 680 and the GTX 670 that the clocks are different and the 670 has one SMX disabled. All other features are the same -- including the maximum number of simultaneous display outputs.
 
Hmm... why should the review include the 7970?

Price point-wise, the review did a stellar job of comparing those that are relevant.

Performance-wise, I could switch to the 7970 reviews and compare the data sets. Sure, the video drivers may be a little dated, but it gives me an indication how much performance-gain can be.

My inflation adjusted two-cents.

680 was 1228mhz and 670 is 1234mhz

Not an accurate measure of the difference each clock provides but this is without pushing both cards to their limits.
 
Wow, Nvidia has themselves a winner right there! If I were in the market for a card, there's nothing else I'd even be considering at this point. Kinda wish I could have just held out for one of these over my 680, as the power savings alone are enough to make it a more attractive option for me.

That said, the thing does look like a half baked idea. Performance is way too close to the 680, so I really have to question what their thinking was here. For me, it really supports the theory that the 680 was supposed to be the 660 of this generation, and they just had to figure out some way to come up with a lower end part based on that. Can't wait to see what they do for the 660 now.

No it won't. They have around the same stock clocks and both overclock to 1.2Ghz or so.

So if stock 7970 = stock 670 then it seems logical that OC 7970 = OC 670.
 
Another good card pretty odd its so short, will be good for HTPC machines.

My guess? The 670 is going to have higher yields than the 680 (because 12.5% of the cores are disabled) and the 660 will have higher yields than the 670 (because 2x 12.5% of the cores are disabled, maybe even a memory channel or two).
