Samsung MV-3V4G3D/US

I have 3x2GB of these running at 1600 cas 8-8-8-22 @ 1.5v they are pretty dang sweet. I can't wait to buy more lol.
 
I was able to remove the heat spreaders from some low profile ECC DDR3 DIMMs. What would be a good replacement TIM? Can i just use some non-conductive TIM that I'll end up getting for my new heaksink or do I need TIM pads?
Ordinary silicone rubber sealant. I've found that it conducts heat better than thermal tape and sticks better, too, yet you can remove it easily by slicing through with a razor.

But unless you're overclocking the RAM, why bother with heat spreaders on it?

Ordered a set of these from B&H on Monday, hoping the do well on my soon to be here Z77E-ITX. Are there any specific ram chips to be looking for? I remember people comparing numbers on them over at OCN.

3M made or used to make silicone rubber sealant for solar hot water panels, to go between the copper pipes and the channels they snapped into. I saw this in the paperwork for the panels we had at our old house. The panels were designed by AZ State and were widely sold as kits in the 1980s. Apparently the 3M silicone sealant was nothing special thermally but was made to not out-gas much because that would fog up the glazing of he solar panels.

Silicone rubber sheeting is used for electrically insulating heatsinks from transistors and high-power chips, and according to W. Marshall Leach of Leach audio amplfier fame, it works better without thermal paste than mica or Kapton insulators with thermal paste do. I don't know if he said anything about aluminum oxide insulators. I've seen silicone rubber insulators used in Fortron-Source and other brand PSUs, but sometimes with thermal paste applied. Some books about power supply design mention silicone rubber's thermal conduction.

I measured a 3 Celcius temperature difference between the package of an old Intel 740i video chip and its taped-on heatsink. After the heatsink fell off, I removed the tape and replaced it with silicone rubber sealant, and the temperature difference reduced to about 1C. I suspect most of that was because the silicone rubber layer was thinner than the thermal tape, and thinness probably matters more than any other factor. I've seen silicone rubber glue used only in a couple of commerical products, both small cards that were probably from security or fire alarm controllers. .

Thank you very much for that information. Might just find myself giving this a try in the near future...specifically for some sinks that I need to attach.
 
Just bought a set of these today from Micro Center to play around with. Haven't installed them yet, but should have a pretty decent opinion of them by the end of the weekend. They're pretty attractive for a no-frills budget set. So I won't have any qualms about their aesthetics when installed. :)

Depends how much tighter the timings are. If you're doing 10-10-10-24 @ 1866 vs 11-11-11-28 @ 2000, I'm confident you'll get a more bandwidth from 2000. Are you having trouble getting them stable @ 2133, with stock timings?

Yeah, prime keeps failing over 2000 and I cant even boot at 2133 with all 4 DIMMs installed. I can boot with 2 DIMMs at 2200, but its not stable.

I might have to put my CPU down to stock speed and try again.

How much voltage are you feeding them? If you're at 1.5v you might want to bump to 1.55 or 1.6 to see if that gets you over the hump. However, you might want some active cooling on that sticks at 1.6 or greater.

They've been doing quite a bit of testing on these and should be able to help you reach that 2133 goal. I've been able to boot and play with 2133 with the two sticks I have, but I don't think they were 100% stable. They passed 32M of HyperPi and ran them for about in hour in Prime, but the system had random quirks that started when I set that speed. So I dropped them back down to 1866 8-9-9-28 @ 1.5v. I haven't played with voltage higher than 1.5v @ 2133 to see if that stabilizes the sticks, but I probably will in the coming days. :)
 
Holy balls, this ram is nice. And friggen tiny! I had to triple-check that I hadn't picked up some sodimms. I'm glad my local Fry's was carrying it. I miss the bling of shiny heat spreaders, cuz I'm shallow like that, but these give you so much room (physically and electronically) to play with. Biggest downside is the packaging, I hate packaging that you basically have to destroy to get at the items. Makes it hard to return if needed. Luckily, it doesn't look like I need to.
 
Well I'm a proud owner of 16GB of this stuff after getting it on Neweggs 15% off desktop ram promo going on today. I plan on using it in a Asus Maximus Formula V board when I can finally buy one. I don't have a clue how to overclock these but I'm fairly tech savy and the whole goal of this project was to finally be [H]ard. Thanks for the OC link earlier in this thread. I'll post back here once I finish my build and I'll let you all know how it went. I bought individual 4GB sticks because the matched pairs were OOS. Do you think I will run into any problems because they aren't matched?

Just want to make sure that the Samsung ram is compatible with the Asrock z77 extreme 4. It's not listed on there compatibility sheet but doesn't mean it will not work. I just want to confirm that there will be no issues specially when it comes to overclocking.

It should work fine with the Extreme4. It had problems with Gigabyte's Z77 motherboard but even that was fixed with a bios update (the last I checked).
 
ordered some of this ram... noticed that on the package it says 1600Mbps.... Isn't this an obvious mislabeling? shouldnt it say 1600Mhz? the bandwidth of the memory should be much higher than 1600Mbps at these speeds..... in fact 1600Mhz memory should have 12,800 MB/s and that translates into 102,400 Mbps....

seriously did someone get this wrong at samsung? I've just read through 3 different online reviews of this memory and nobody is mentioning this obvious error... I feel like im taking crazy pills here.

Maybe this is why these are being sold so cheaply... to get the bad packaging out of there... or am I missing something?
 
This ram has my interest piqued not only for its potential for overclock but the price: $16 a dimm is pretty sweet.

So AMD experts out there, If my motherboard advertises as overclocking to 2000 MHz would my 1090t benefit from pushing this RAM that high or would I be better keeping it low and trying to tighten the timings? Currently I'm running Corsair XMS 1600 @ stock.

Also should I keep it at 8 GB or max it to 16?
 
That is an awesome kit. Already ordered 2 of them, let see where it goes in terms of performance.
 
I had problems over clocking these till MSI recently updated Mpower Z77 BIOS to support them.

Picked up another set of Sammy LP cheapies and with the BIOS update to 17.5 on my Mpower Z77 MB they are working out well for over clocking. Also they are unstable if voltage over 1.55v on DRAM. I have my DRAM voltage at 1.42v and I have them at 2133mhz CL 9-10-10-27. That is with my 3770k over clocked to 5GHZ HT enabled. I have never been able to do this with these sticks so I think MSI finally tweaked the BIOS right. :) Going to keep on pushing them to see how fast I can get them to go. I think they don't like the high voltage because they heat up. I am testing them with Intel Burn Test.

I'm in love with this RAM. I'm not doing any extensive overclocking with it, but I've had it in my DQ77MK mobo for the past several weeks running at 1600 (1.5v, CAS 9) without a single problem. Completely solid.

Price, low-profile, apparently overclocks like a champion... this is just too good.

Edit: I am definitely making use of this memory in the fleet of business PCs I'll have to build next year.

I'm running 4x4 sticks in my z68 board at 1.35 volts with no problems. Win 8 WEI rates the memory at 8.2.
 
How many of you guys using 4 stick of the 4GB stuff overclock your cpu as well?

I was considering a bump to 16gb for the system in my sig, and I'm just not sure that the 4 sticks would be stable. It's pretty common for problems to arise when filling all four banks, correct?

On one hand I get the benefit of overclocking, which will most likely result in nil real world results, with low voltage and a low profile (nice for my cpu cooler), but then I may run into a problem with the 4 banks filled. On the other I have two sticks and room to grow but, knowing GSkill, no ability to overclock.

I don't see why not. I've seen these sticks better on Asus than other MB makers.

I have MSI Z77 Mpower and am just learning how to over clock these sticks.

With 1.5v and only adjusting the first 5 timings I am able to get a stable 1T 9-10-10-24 with a 2x4GB kit that uses HYKO ICs.

Best I can do with my new Hyko Samsung 2x4GB kit from 12/29 batch is 2246MHZ with 1.55v.

I set my memory speed to 2200mhz with 9-10-10-24 1T with an increase my BCLk a little to get there. This is with my 3770k at [email protected] Vcore.


SuperPi 32m is 6:40 with these settings which matches my best time I had with my Gskill CL9 2400mhz kit that I had over clocked to 2666mhz CL 10-12-12-31 1T at 1.7v ddr voltage. The CL9 Gskill kit sells for almost about $95 at Newegg right now and I got eh Sammy kit for $34.99 from Newegg. :)

I think this kit will go alot faster but my MSI Z77 Mpower BIOS is limiting it in speed settings. :(

Is there a guide somewhere showing how to overclock these sticks? I just got a pair and have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to OCing RAM. Right now I have them running at the Asus optimized default, which is probably crappy.

I am impressed. Great memory Only using 3 of them, but will update my computer if haswell is any good.

tried 1600 @ 7-7-7-19 CR1 ( Mucked up here, ha! The timings were ok when voltage was set on auto which = 1.6xx ) - Is that too high for these sticks?

I think i need to slacken the timing a bit and bring voltage down,. Never played in this area before, oh here goes.

Now have ram running at 7-8-8-24 1t @ 4vt. No crashes and pleased with the ram.

Oh yeah! The ram price has gone back down again

Don't look at online stores. Physically go to stores like microcenter, you may get one.

Yup, brick-and-mortar is the way to go for these sticks. I just recently picked up a new pair from Walmart.
