If you are sending death threats to game developers, you seriously need to reevaluate....pretty much everything.

"The very first death threat I got was when we decided not to support dedicated servers in Modern Warfare 2," Robert Bowling the former public face for the Call of Duty series recently told me. That was in 2009. He's had many more since, including batches of them every month throughout last year.

There is just something about the Internet that makes people think they can treat others without any bit of respect. Maybe it doesn't feel like you are communicating with a real person if you don't physically see them. I recently worked as support for Minecraft servers and the amount of hatred and vitriol I received when people broke their servers just blew my mind. You'd think I'd murdered their family or something. I hate to say it, but it was mostly teenagers too.

There are times when i just can not understand my fellow human's. I seriously can not comprehend why people would do stupid shit like this. I mean supposedly we are all built in a similar way in both body and mind. So you would think people would treat each others the way they want them selfs and there family's to be treated. But they don't. I guess it is something i will never understand ;(

And for some strange reason he isn't dead yet. So much for the great training video games give at killing. :p

It amazes me as to what can fuel hatred these days. A bad video game, a bad singer, bad movie etc... People will HATE over the most petty of things. If a developer makes bad games? Simple, they won't get my money. if a singer sounds really bad.. should I hate them horriblly for it? Or just not buy their music?

If there's one issue with the PC gaming community, it's that far too many take such matters as a lack of dedicated servers in a game much too seriously. It's unfortunate that these games/franchises end up going the way they often times do, but it's important that we keep a good perspective about things: these things are just games. They're usually very shallow forms of entertainment which exist for us to get enjoyment from.

I've said before that I appreciate games as art at a greater level than most would, and that gives them a level of cultural significance in my book, but they're still just games.

The human and ape genomes differ by about 3%. Asking humans to make decisions based on logic and act civilized is a tall order. Are you really surprised people troll and act tough on the internet? Just look at the way people behave while driving, but not so tough when I step out of the car at a light. Anonymity and alcohol reveal the true nature of most humans.

I can understand being pissed off with a company, but I don't understand death threats. I find it a good rule to not do anything that might get you in legal hot water.

Well, I almost agree that getting rid of player-run dedicated servers should be met with death threats. That was one of the most retarded decisions by the publishers/developers that I've ever seen in PC gaming. I'd say getting rid of LAN play is up there, too.

The goverment screws up constantly... 0 anger...
Game has a thing you don't like...

Apparently you don't read much news or even the Soapbox on here. People have a TON of anger for the government. The difference is that if they tried to send death threats to the President they'd have the FBI knocking on their door. :p

I wonder if they count "go DIAF" as a death threat.

If there's something you don't like in a game then don't buy it? The power of being a consumer.

'If you kill the ones that make the games then eventually there are no more games"

Appearantly nimrods can't think action -> consequence

The main reason they do it. Is because they get away with it. Do you think people would issue death threats to the president of the united states if they didn't know about the consequences?

The internet is a nice place when you have sane people to communicate to.

I think it demonstrates pretty poor decisionmaking skills to send ANYONE a death threat over ANY medium....

Most people don't get involved in politics or fully understand the goverment role. They are very happy to vote once every four years and be oblivious to the bills/laws being passed in their state/country.

But a game where you invest a great deal of time and skills in? You better wear a bullet proof vest if they think XXX item/class is overpowered.

That would be known as John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.

Take a person, any normal person, put him or her in front of an audience of any size and grant him or her anonymity. Without the consequences of a known identity that person will almost always go from normal to a raging fuckwad instantaneously.

Those are just some sorry people. Too bad they just can't fall to the floor banging fists and feet, like they did up to age 16.

I've always loved the highly technical terminology used in that theory. :D

So studying at school for my Game design major, tbh the last thing as a developer I would want to see is a death threat from people complaining about your game. They most likely wont happen so why wouldn't I just keep going on with my life, so pointless.

I won't be surprised if some of them came from the [h] PC Gaming forum. I have spent years there (quit going there a few months ago) but I know very well that we have a few unrational people who think that they are owed perfect 10/10 games. I think that the "PC ports suck" chant so vocalized by Kyle only attracts more unreasonable gamers.

The Secret Service investigates death threats made against the President.

Does that mean you'd wind up with hookers knocking on your door? :p

No I means if you have hookers you are pretty free to send as many death threats as you want without fear of retaliation.

I think Jack Thompson is a good example of the least that will happen when you send threats in the mail.

Games already have ESRB rating. Maybe they need to add a "sane" mark. If you might want to make death threats over this game, do not buy! :D

Hating and anger is all fine, but when you do something like death threats, it's just a bit too much. If you act on such threats, you should DIAF, because seriously? There is so much more things you can do instead of threatening something you don't have to participate in.
