If you are interested in upgrading to a Z77 motherboard, there is a review of the Asus Maximus V Gene at eTeknix that might be of interest to you.

After pushing forward to 4.6GHz for our testing, we then decided to throw the board in at the deep end and go for 5GHz and things booted fine with a relatively low voltage at 1.425V. It’s only after this that we had to chuck a few extra volts at it to push it further and starting to up the multiplier to 51x and then 52x.

I bought it on alwayslowest.com, damn you newegg for taking so long to stock it!

How good/bad is the SupremeFX III ?

Better then onboard, and that's all you need to know.

I don't personally own one of these as I have the Maximus IV Gene-z/Gen3 but I'd be leary of that...It's still onboard audio and uses a Realtek chipset/drivers with a software based SupremeFXIII. Hopefully it's different than the previous generation because the audio is terrible. I'm guessing more of the same. Was hoping to read the review but it appears their site is down.

I'm half-surprised that Asus hasn't integrated their Xonar line as onboard audio on atleast their ROG line. They probably don't want to undercut themselves and it's probably cheaper initially to use a 3rd party solution but it would be a nice selling point.

Where does it say realtek chipset and drivers?

Yeah I have the X58 Asus Rampage Gene III and it definitely had RealTek chipset with some fancy ASUS audio software.

For some strange reason, I'm really psyched about using the mPCIe and mSATA combo card. Crucial just announced the C400 which is the mSATA version of the M4. It will come in 128GB and 256GB capacities with pricing expected to be just slightly lower than their 2.5" counterparts according to AnandTech. Similarly, Samsung has the PM830 available to OEMs but no retail plans at the moment. Having a clean m-atx case layout with zero drives to clutter the space would be pretty sweet.

Other than building a lighter weight PC what is the big attraction to this board over say the G1.Sniper 3?

what UPS delivered to me this time....Another QVC package for my gf or....

Mine is at home waiting for me to get out of work to get my hands on it and tear it open for my new build. Already have everything I need for this build, it's going to be beautiful :')

Are you skipping Ivy Bridge?

Which cooler(s) do you guys plan on using? I have a Lian-Li V354 like WorldExclusive but I'm still weighing if I should go H60/H80 or Air Cooling (Noctua NH-C14).

This board is at the top of my list right now, but i'm going to wait for reviews with ivy bridge first. I think i'd likely buy this over the asus z77 V board which is currently the same price, but perhaps saving a bucks and going with the msi gd-65 would be better for me. We'll see.

As for a cooler, WC all the way baby! Probly swiftech HD block.

Yeah skipping Ivy Bridge, bought a brand new 2600K for $220 ;) going to be using an H60.

For those wondering about sound, it sounds like they have improved the onboard sound quality of the board by a lot. It says

Another feature that we see new on the Maximus V Gene is with regards to the audio. Integrated audio has always been seen to be a slight downfall on motherboards due to its lack of clarity and crisp sound plus the feeling that it could be that bit better. To combat the interference that the motherboard can pass on to the sound card, Asus have clearly segregated the audio from the board. To signify and enhance this feature, we can see that there is a red line from the rear of the audio jacks that works its way down the board to the base. This is not just a coloured line. Underneath the board are a number of surface mounted LEDs, and with the board powered, these light up and shine through the board.

Also in the Conclusion

Coming in at a fantastic price of £156.92, that board is a must buy upgrade for any existing ROG user that wants a stepping stone ready for the new processors when they come out. Given that it packs a whole load extra features including the isolated sound card to prevent interference from the main proportion of the board, you’ll be mad not to.

Don't know how good that is but, maybe its the end of days for sound cards :/

Sounds good, wasn't planning on swapping my X-Fi Titanium over anyway since I did hear the MVG had that nifty hardware.

I ordered from ShopBLT to save a few bucks. They mentioned a 15 day ETA when I ordered, but I was OK with that, since I don't really need the motherboard until I have a processor to put on it.

...Then they sent an email stating that they won't have it in stock until May 2.

Best onboard audio I've heard ever!

You'll have to play with the EQ, but through VLC, it sounds great.

That's good to hear, I'm currently using a X-fi platinum sound card but a solid on-board will give me the opportunity to crossfire or sli

I would like to ask if there would be a full size version of the maximus gene V. Since I'm concerned of how would I place cooling fans in my case if the board only includes 4 fan pins and I would probably have 5 or 6 fans (2 or 3 intake, 1 exhaust and 2 cpu fans)

Yes, there will definitely be a full size version.

Good to hear about the audio.
