Steve Jobs Really Hated Google

I have no idea how anyone would look at Steve Jobs as a role model. Crazy thing is that there is probably a million people obsessed with Steve Jobs.

Platform control is not a bad thing.

I tend to see "platform control" in this case as Steve Jobs wielding Apple as a fascist regime intent on indoctrinating customers. Of course that has its benefits in polish, consistency, and interoperability. So did "life" under the National Socialists. The problem is that such mindsets are incapable of accepting ones external to their own - which sounds a little something like what we're seeing here and in many other snippets.

It's not a matter of their product being better than another, it's about being the exclusive product and way of doing things. Your other comment about it being progressive isn't entirely wrong, though: his ability to see that a tech company can operate this way with great success is indeed eye-opening. Yet in terms of what the consumer really wants, I agree with Maverick's assertion that it is regressive. Just because one calls something a revolution, and because it appears to be one, doesn't mean it's anything but a new spin to hide an old con.

Yeah. I think the term "platform control" is really a euphemism for what Apple does.

No doubt, The Iphone was a completely revolutionary product that kicked the crap out of everything else in the market when it came out. There were many firsts on that device, including the first actually enjoyable web browsing experience on a mobile phone. No doubt, Google copied apple, as have many others. Android looks more or less like a cheaper version of IOS even to this day. That said, I wholeheartedly agree with the comments about Steve. What did he expect? Any time a new product is released, there are those who will work to release their own version. Android being open was a brilliant move by Google.

Unless you used a Windows Mobile phone prior to the iPhone being released, you're not qualified to make that statement. Hell, the first iPhone didn't even have a 3G modem built in, which was fairly standard at that time. Revolutionary my ass. Making a good browser is not revolutionary. Hell, I'd say that Android was more revolutionary in that department since it gave you the first near-desktop browsing experience, since the web, you know, has Adobe Flash.

The iPhone removed alot of corporate/technical components and streamlined the experience for consumer use. It was evolutionary at best, and devolutionary in some ways.

apple is to computers and cell phones what aol was to the internet: helping tech-lame people use things they have no business using in the first place. </thread>

Because I'm supposed to give a crap what that pathetic excuse for a human thought?

Jobs was an embarrassment to our species. Good riddance.

Jobs was an asshole. But even after he passed away, he's still good for page views. That's why his name keeps popping up.

Jobs really is a job. Screw him and is ego. Android is better overall. He's just mad

at least he was true to his word and spent his last dying breath on fulfilling his quest.

Now that I think about it, Google played down his hate very well. They made it look like there was no war, even though they knew very well how Jobs viewed them. Its not like they wanted to have this war come out and affect their products in anyway so they said it was blown up by the media, then what is Jobs going to do? "No, we really, REALLY hate them!" which will put them in a bad position.

Google should get a +1 for that little downplay, it really helped them in the long run I think.

I have to chuckle a bit... he might have hated google... but google execs are saying... we're still alive. what now bitch!

Dude was a sickening dick of a hypocrite. Thank fucking god he's gone.

I was having a conversation today about Jobs and I was telling my Mother how happy I was when I got news that he died. I told her "I wonder if I'm the only person that was really thrilled to see him go." Guess I'm not the only one. Cheers to you brother.

Well Android does get away with infringing on plenty of patents because they say the OS is free. Hardly justification.

The amount of Apple-hate on this forum is astounding. I have built every PC I've ever owned and will probably never own a Mac (though I do have an iPhone), and I'd never say I'm glad the dude's dead or "good riddance".

Regarding that quote, obviously he was very competitive, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially for us consumers. He was just a businessman, a successful one at that.

With that said, I'll probably forget to come look for replies since I hardly visit the News section of the forums.

Of course not. You're rational.

What you don't seem to grasp is that it's not Apple hate. It's Steve Jobs hate. Most of the people who don't like him didn't come to that opinion because we didn't like his task bar, one button mouse, or anything just because it was an Apple product. PCs... Macs... all irrelevant. Hypothetically, if Stalin made some cool devices it wouldn't change the fact that he was a murderous tyrant. Now, I'm not saying Jobs was on the Stalin level of elite asshole, however he was a self centered, detestable, arrogant asshole. He had much more power than the vast majority of people and the only thing he perused with it was personal greed. Granted, it was his "right" to do so, however just because he's dead you don't get to whitewash his actions. So F Steve Jobs, and yes, "good riddance".

I just find it so very sad that someone who built a company from the ground up to become such a huge success led such a seemingly sad and pathetic life. Paranoid and angry to a fault... what is the point of living if this is what you experience everyday? While i consider the hardware and software nothing special, the way he integrated and marketed apple products is something to marvel at. i respect him as a business man, but is something to be very much avoided.

Some of you on this forum are so fucked in the head I think you need to seek help.

Nobody cares about this but 2% of the population...the 1% who are apple fanboys (who are nuts) and the other 1% who hate him (good collection on this forum).

The man was a technological business GENIUS. He took what nerds use, saw potential, and then developed software and a marketing strategy to take it main stream.

It is hilarious how butt hurt you people get because he took it to a market that is so significant that YOU DON'T MATTER TO TECH COMPANIES ANYMORE.... that is where all the hate stems from. Us nerds used to be 80% of the market, now we are probably 5%. You can see it on apple threads and you can also see it on gaming discussions about "consolization".

I own an iphone because it is not a fragmented piece of garbage that is Android...that's it...as with most people I don't worship the companies who make my phones, computers, game consoles, cars, anything....I buy the most complete well support product.

No go on with your hate mongering butt hurt...

Congratulations, you're now worse than them!

It's pretty funny how much you guys hate apple.

Actually, I may start liking Apple if they keep going the way the new CEO is leading them. So far Apple has re-instituted community contribution programs and charity programs (Steve Jobs eliminated those programs). This tells me a significant change is taking place there.

Its not about hating Apple. Its about heavily disagreeing with the way Steve Jobs did things. While I still respect him for what he did in the early years of the personal computer, my respect ends there. Its pretty obvious how much better a company Apples become in Tim Cooks hands.

Oh please. A company's job isn't to make charitable contributions. I couldn't give two shits if a company does this or does that. All I care about is that they make products that I want to buy, no more, no less. I have a feeling that you wouldn't either if it wasn't Apple. Kind of like how everyone got on Apple's nuts about Foxconn and yet choose to forget that nearly every piece of consumer electronic sold in the US goes through them in one way or another. And I'll tell you another thing, Apple has probably done more for the global economy, thereby increasing standards of living, more than any other company on earth. And guess what? They couldn't have gotten there without Jobs.

One more thing, Android is and was a blatant ripoff of iOS. It's so obvious to those of us not blinded by nerd rage it's not even funny. As it stands, android is simply a fork of the original iOS. Essentially meaning all of the core features came from iOS and little bits here and there, for better and worse, were added over time.

You must have never used an Android device then. But you love apple, you would buy a piece of shit that had the apple logo on it and call it the best piece of shit in the world.
