Remember the Chinese teen that sold a kidney to buy an iPad and iPhone? Well, it looks like all the people involved could be heading to jail.

Last April, 17-year-old Wang, a resident of one of China’s poorest provinces, sold a kidney in order to purchase an iPhone and iPad 2. The transaction wasn’t discovered until his mom asked where he had gotten the money to purchase the pricey Apple products.

Sounds like the kid got ripped off. I thought kidneys were worth several grand on the black market?

people with apple insanity will do stupid things

but hell, if it will help stock prices and boost profits, I say cut out all your kidneys and go on dialysis.
stupid people will be first to die, and it will be good for humanity.

A kidney for a couple of iDevices? This why some think that iDevice users area few sandwiches short in the old picnik basket.

Obviously he just thought he came with two kidneys to just use one as a spare.

Hmm, not much forethought there!

"Remember, back in the day and you bought the hottest electronics at the time? Man. You sold your kidney to get them! Ha. That was so long ago. It must have been, man, four years ago! That model feels so old and clunky now."

"Yeah, four years ago... it would have been nice to know if it would have lasted this long. Dang mom sold it to pay for counseling."

Two years later and he'll been wanting to buy the new iPhone and iPad. Then again he probably wants his kidney back too. :p

The question is... did he get told all the information, like cost and payment. If he did, then it's his own dumb ass fault. I have zero sympathy... sides. Doctors get paid tons of money to do operation procedures.

In the US and many other countries, he is legally too stupid to make this kind of decision - he is not an adult. So give him some credit.

Plus, the kidney probably helped save someone's life. Either that or it went to some communist Chinese politburo who wanted a third kidney and extra clean blood...

Nominating the word "iJobs" to be used on the inerweb for selling bodies part for iDevices.

Not sure if you should blame the idiot kid or the parenting fail. At least his mom took measures to punish those responsible. Hopefully they can get some more of that $35k.

Too bad the lawyers will get the lion's share of it. :(

On one hand, the kid is an imbecile for selling a finite object like an internal organ for money. OTOH it is really tough to be poor and people will do anything end it (including crossing borders, selling organs, etc). But what I really wanted to say is that even though this kid's health is deteriorating because of his dumb choice, at least he has an iPhone and an iPad. Not only that, but soon, he's going to be the only person to have the official iDied-for-Apple I-am-the-iDevice. :D

He was 17. That's really all you get from that article. If age is any factor, 17 should be enough to make a decision. He's obviously too stupid for the decision, because of what it is, but anyone who would make such a dumb ass decision is. I still think it's his own dumb ass fault if he was given the information and chose to ignore it.

I teach in a very poor rural community. Over 70% of my school student population is on some type of assistance. While they can't afford to pay for their lunches or to replace the textbooks they lose or destroy, their families have no problem providing them with iPod Touches or iPhones and data plans. They're the Air Jordans of this generation.

FFS, don't tell me you can't afford the $10 Concert Festival Fee and need a sponsor, then whip out your 4S to text your mom and tell her I said cutting back on app budget might help you afford it...

no, 17 isn't old enough to make rational decisions that will impact you for the rest of your life.

17 year old kids are stupid. Hell 21 year old kids aren't much better.

If my mom had asked where I got the money, and I said I sold a kidney for it, she would have assumed I was just lying to cover up a theft.
It must be commonplace in China for people to sell organs: "I couldn't pay rent this month, so I had to sell one of my lungs" "yeah, times are tough, I had to sell one of my kidneys last year to pay for car repairs"

So people think its apples fault? Blame the idiot people who do this.

Elitists on this board are hilarious.
