A small datacenter build and other projects

Pics are showing up here?

I have more! But no time. We bought a E350 van today. I get to put 3 nodes (72 cores/1TB ram/6TB SSD's), cameras, and a 3000w inverter/250amp alternator in it to power all of that. Should be a fun project!

it's weird, I think your host disabled your forum view and since you can see them it may be cached?

If I take the URL and paste it into IE, I can view it, but I can't do that for all the pictures haha

Same,

It looks like I hit my viewing limit on IMGUR, which I do not see how is possible. Trying to decide if I want to host them myself or pay for the IMGUR pro access...

I think IMGUR changed it policy. It's doing the same thing to everyone that has been using it on [H].

google account & picasa :) 5$ year gets you 50 gigs :)

hosting your self is ok, but eats bandwidth up :(

Tempted to toss it on a spare host at work, as this is work related and I could QOS it over one of my backup DSL lines.

Photobucket.. Never had any issues to this day. I don't know if they still offer it, but I have unlimited storage for pictures with no cost

I was going to recommend photobucket aswell but figured you guys might have better alternatives.

Can you guys still see the pics? I've got red x's.

Edit: Nevermind...just saw that everyone's having the issue. :)

Am I crazy or do I see all the pictures? Not really seeing where anything is missing. The OP has like 75 pics.

Those damn MTU issues again, I bet.

yay! posting to subscribe! if my gf saw me looking at this thread shed be super jealous. she doesnt care if i watch porn, but if i spend too much time looking at computer parts, believe me she lets me know! keep it coming. ;)

Why is only 160gb showing? Ahhhh 4 bad DIMM's (2 really, but IPMI shows 4 possible.)

At least now I know why it was only showing 40gb of ram installed.

Oh well, it has 96b now :)

You have an awesome work enviroment+job it seems like.

Can't wait for more pictures :)

So how does the server perform with 196gb? is there a certain amount of VM's you guys are running with that amount of memory?

Will do!

It is a crazy place and I am hoping I get to hire at least an intern/help desk tech here this fall. The company is growing at a crazy pace and it is making it difficult to handle all of the daily tasks, research, project planning and management, and hardware build outs that are going on. My goal is to build a solid foundation and move everything over piece by piece- decommissioning our old system as I go. Step one is to get some basic policies in place. I have started with basic things such as workstation specifications, asset tracking, EOL timelines and ewaste recycling, and hopefully can get some of the more important (software tracking, user guidelines, ect) in place as I go. It is still very interesting being my own manager. My "boss" above me is only there to approve large purchases and to have someone else to talk to/knows what is going on with the rest of the company.

I would not trade it for anything else right now :)

To bad you aren't in Canda, I am looking for an internship for sept to dec.

Seems like a good company to work for. Does most of the work that you do get done after hours when people are away? Seems like it would be hard to do all that during a 8-5 enviroment

The 196gb Dual Hex is actually a Nexanta ZFS storage head. Hence the 3x HBA's and 2x 40gb Infiniband.

The only VM's we have are blogs/test boxes/ect. They run great with just 64gb per server.

Long day.

Got in at 8am when only two people were here and shut down the 2nd of our two 130TB ZFS NAS for a memory upgrade. It went ok. I still am having terrible write performance. Oh well, my SSD's should be here next week.

While I was installing the ram in the 2nd ZFS host, our AC kicked off. I decided to investigate... Darn it.

The drain from the condensor was clogged. 2 gal of water spilled on the floor. I removed the pump and cleaned it, but the drain tube was still clogged.

Go to a local HVAC ducting fabricator and have them spec you out a condensate pan in for the dimensions of your movincools footprint with the extra condensate pump. Have them weld the pan (welded is 10000x better), give it about 4" sides.

Then install a water alarm. Worst case scenario you just need to shop vac it up out of the pan.

The pan would be cheap too.

What are you doing with the thinkpads? T or W series?
How do you like them? I am thinking the W series will be my next laptop eventually.

Great idea. I happen to have access to a large metal shop and have some scrap aluminum sheet that would be perfect for this. Should be easy enough to bend up a box and TIG it together.

Both. I currently have the following:

T510
T520 Core i7 2.8
T520 Core i7 2.4 Quad
W520 Core i7 2.4 Quad

All have been trouble free and seem thus far to be very solid machines. I generally max out the ram and install a 256gb SSD.
