I was looking for cheap fun, I admit it.
I should know better, I'll admit that too.

I bought Painkiller: Ressurection of Evil from Steam on Friday for 10 bucks.

First, once D/L, I go into the options......there's no choice to adjust the resolution?

I forgave them for that, and set up the rest of the "advanced video options".

Everytime I go to "accept" them, the game crashes.

Now I CAN play the game, at some oddly weak resolution......but after the first level was completed, the game won't save anymore.....auto or quick.

Oh well.......10 bucks lost in the digital abyss............

I should have known better.....

Did you do any research at all before buying? Doesn't sound like it.

Resurrection of Evil is a Doom 3 expansion. Do you mean Recurring Evil or Resurrection? Yes, they suck. And yes, they support widescreen resolutions.

If I remember correctly you can adjust the screen resolution. I may be thinking of the original Pain killer which was awesome.

too many .............
did you bother to google the problem?????
goto the steam forums...
others might be having same problem..........
close this thread..??>..???...
:)

Is this really where PC gaming is at nowdays? Where you have to spend time reading dumb user's reviews and paid-to-review IGN.com and the like just to find out if the game isn't so bugged out you can even save?

Recurring Evil.....sorry.
Please show me how this POS supports widescreeen.

Yep, unfortunately after purchase. There are no answers on the forums about how to "fix" this.
My question is why should I have to do it anyway.
This release is about "alpha" at best, and not worth my money.

Did you do any research at all before buying? Doesn't sound like it.

So, let me get this straight.......what you're implying is buyer beware.
It's my fault someone released a bag of shit on Steam?
I can fully understand a bad game, you know, just not fun or graphically dull.......
but a bugged out turd that won't load right, won't save, won't even allow manipulation of the GUI, yeah.........that's my fault.........

Part of the reason I posted this is so no one else makes my mistake and buys this shit.:D

You think that's bad? I bought Soldier of Fortune Payback for $10

Any of us that bought that turd at any price at all have to hang our heads in shame.

That series needs a real sequel in a bad way.

Any gaming or any other purchase I would think requires means to make an educated purchase. Always has been the case for me. I wouldn't necessarily cite sources like those but certainly big complaints would stand out as repeated sore thumbs over and over again as warning.

Maybe for $60, but I would think the break-even point for researching a $10 purchase would be a pretty short period of time.

Recurring Evil.....sorry.
Please show me how this POS supports widescreeen.

After quick googling..

Resolution problem? fix: go to
C:\Users\ "your pc name here" \AppData\Local\Painkiller Recurring Evil\RE.ini
1=open the RE.ini
2=find for the line = Cfg.Resolution = 1280x720 (change it for your res)
3=play

Don't know if it works. As for your other problems have you tried "verify integrity of game cache"?

So, let me get this straight.......what you're implying is buyer beware.

I'm not implying it at all. I'm stating it outright in general. People should make educated purchases.

It's my fault someone released a bag of shit on Steam?

Nope. It's your fault that you bought it blind without knowing what you were getting in to.

I can fully understand a bad game, you know, just not fun or graphically dull.......

You're talking to yourself here.

Good. :) Now you will fulfill exactly what I'm talking about for others here. People can now be helped to make a more educated purchase thanks to your warnings. Sorry you wasted your money.

I'll thank you myself for giving us this warning. :)

EDIT: Why not get a refund or at least get Steam to kick the money back as a credit towards your next Steam purchase? I think you could cite technical issues and get it done. I'd certainly try if I were as displeased and got as a big of a mess on my hands as you did here. Try it. :)

At least you didn't buy Breaking The Rules for PC. You log in to GameSpy, join a lobby or host a game, and when you click Start Match NOTHING happens. Not to mention only 'partial' controller support (keys work, but d-pad/stick do not). And got no response from the developers on how to get multiplayer to work. If anyone has this piece of shit game and is able to start a game online, please let me know how.

I was tricked into clicking on this thread by expecting more ME3 drama. :(

what is this "oddly" weak resolution?

the developer cannot guarantee it will work perfectly on all machines.
and why cant you google something? is it that hard.i dont understand why everyone bitches about having to look into a problem...if you dont ever want a problem, maybe its time to get an xbox.

from your OP...it seems as if you did nothing to look into your problem...when you have a problem with your car, computer, cell phone. etc...dont you look into it?
what is so different about this?

Heh, I bought Jericho a while back for like $1.50 on Steam. It is still sitting there. Is it really that bad? :(

hmm i kinda liked Jericho but i tossed the dvd on the trash after i finished, still...

From reading it does sound like he at least checked the steam and or game developer's forums...at least I hope he did. The first thing I do if I don't have options in the menu is to search for a game INI file to see if I can edit it. If not I google for answers as searching the forums seems to take longer than a quick google search.

I agree that All (or most) pc games have certain issues and work arounds needed at least until patched. That is just part of the pc gaming experience. Research is always a good thing, even with Steam games.

What I don't understand is the OP coming on here saying this is the biggest turd ever without asking for help first. I do understand his frustration but if he has had issues chances are someone else has as well and posted on the Internet. Game developers not replying for tech help is a whole other thing which is not right, so I may avoid their games in the future.

I think Steam allows a one time refund so if it bothers you that much ask for it and do your research from now on, or as suggested get an Xbox (cough, cough). :)

the first post, he didnt say he didnt anything other than trying to change a couple settings.
you would think he would have least google'd his problem or checked the steam forum. He may have, but that was after the post.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly people assume one is totally inept.
I have considerable experience "fixing" games that don't always comply with EyeFinity at first blush, and am fully aware of the .ini files that exist for games of all variety. I have come to expect certain aggrevation from any games, because they are not all native to EyeFinity. I can't even get this game to conform to single screen 1920x1200.

secondly, yes I looked around to see if someone, anyone had the same experience as I had. I even ran across the quote that has been noted above about the .ini files in the user/appdata/etc. Even when edited, saved, etc. the game defaults to the original resolution not the corrected one.
None of the information on-line has been helpful.
Yes, I posted in Steam Forums about this piece of junk.
Yes, I inquired with Steam about getting my money back.

What I refer to as "weak resolution", is what the game defaults to when launched. i have no idea what the resolution is, but it consumes a mere 5% of the utilization of the GPU when I play it, and this is using a back-up machine with a GTX 470.
The problems begin immediately, due to the fact that the game will not allow me to adjust the video options without crashing.

yes I have verified the cache, I even uninstalled and reinstalled thinking the D/L may have been corrupted.

All this is run on a very solid X58 system with windows 7. nothing fancy, no problems for over two yeras running all sorts of software, and easily running any 24 hour torture test you can name.

This game is just poorly done. Again, I should have known better buying a 10 dollar game.
All I wanted was a little mindless fun. I always enjoyed the Painkiller series and expected some bugs, as the original wasn't perfect......but this turd isn't even polished.
I gave Steam too much credit......I figured they might screen the games they sell. Not so.
As for the XBox comment, the only thing I can say positive about consoles is that they work properly once you insert the disc.

I'd rather pay $10 and do some research/file editing then pay $40-$60 and expect the game to play like a smooth HD movie but still having to do some research and or file editing...but whatever.

I don't even think the DLC was coded by the same developer if I remember correctly. I think it was a cash grab for the franchise. The Steam page shows a Metacritic score of 38 out of 100, which should tell you something if you trust those scores, which I take with a grain of salt.

Cost is irrelevant. ive played games in that price range that were great. this one is however not.

Cost is always relevant for any purchase, however that wasn't my point if you were replying to my post.

he said he should have known it was 10$ so that automatically makes it bad, i refuted by saying that is not always true

Heh, I bought Jericho a while back for like $1.50 on Steam. It is still sitting there. Is it really that bad? :(

All I needed to see of that game was the demo, it was worse than bad......but at least you could load it and play it.:D

oh yeah, agree, unplayable in 2012

I don't know. I also have the xbox 360 version I need to test but you know the feedback you see when you shoot something? like it nods falls over backs up whatever. Jericho doesn't really have that. You be surprised how difficult it is to play a game with no feedback. I'm playing it tonight I'll add more when I can clarify.

Yes. It was made by someone else, poorly made indeed.
As for metacritic, I have seen some bad scores for excellent games; just like movies, so I agree.

Me too, but not this one unfortunately.:D

ive heard from a couple sources that the Recurring evil is nothing more than a reskin anyway. im a huge painkiller fan. i bought the original before steam came around. thought it was great. disappointed the direction Painkiller has went. but oh well.

Any of us that bought that turd at any price at all have to hang our heads in shame.

That series needs a real sequel in a bad way.

Agreed, Soldier of Fortune 2 was one of the best games ever. I never touched Payback after hearing what a shitheap it is, but it's really sad the IP died with that.

Back on-topic, I liked Painkiller when it first came out. I'm a little shocked/saddened to see that they are still trying to cash grab off of what is essentially the same game "re-done" several times.

Its a shame how these money grabbing publishers can take a franchise and beat it to death with crappy sequels to the point it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I loved the first 2 PK's, in fact they were a couple of games that I actually played all the way through. Most of the time I get bored and quit before the end.

I played the demo and thought it was an interesting premise at least. Graphics seemed good, but the gameplay did seem shitty. QTEs like mad.

Correct, I really enjoyed Painkiller and the Bat Out of Hell sequel.
Yeah, they had some buggy parts, but overall just alot of fun.

that's why I decided to buy this one...............bad choice.

Buying a turd sucks but I agree with those who say that you should research your purchases first. Personal responsibility needs to make a comeback. Thanks for the warning about this POS though.
