Bought this MSA Security Appliance off BlueFox, the specs were perfect for what i was going to do with it.

Did ton's of reading on the ( default os ) read lots looked like a pita, so ditched it ASAP!!

The hardware has 6 x 1gb intel nic's and a LGA775 socket.

So i removed the stock hdd, put it into a static bag and into the closet where it's going to collect dust, it still has the original os & restore partition on it. Keeping it just incase i decide to sell this box and play with something else..

installed Untangle x64 bit 9.2 and updated it. the default install see's all nic's YES!!

I have a close friend that is very good at building os drivers and coding etc etc, so the next thing id like to try is getting the LCD to output some information IE CPU usage or hdd etc etc. Might be a long shot but worth whyle, i know astaro has a box that has a lcd, and the new Untangle boxes have a lcd & buttons.

Pic's.

Unboxed and on top of my rack

one thing i might try this weekend, is see if i can install untangle to a 64/32 gig cf card, since this box has a cf card slot might give it a whirl.

Can you get the LCD working under Untangle? I assume the "System Ready" is the LCD PCB's default output.

That's awesome! I like the front panel monitor. I wish this stuff was more easily obtainable for fully custom builds. Would be awesome to have this type of display on custom boxes.

Is that "volume knob" just the power button, or does it also scroll the LCD?

it's the power button, it scrolls when the default os is installed and functions very well.

Might end up selling this and buying a Dell R200 soon, so we'll see :)

Check out CrystalFontz, they make what you're looking for. I believe a lot of their main people are [H] members, too.

What is this big black shiny box next to the server?

UT has built in LCD support it seems since they are releasing their own boxes again, so just a matter of getting it towork.

now to figure out if i can get the lcd working.. Just not sure were to start...

what you think of those rack mount units ? I so want one :)

The NG-100 units are nice...I just ordered another one yesterday, putting one in a school system so also getting Education Premium Edition 50-150 user bundle from Untangle.

FYI, have you seen Untangles new appliances yet? Giving them another few months to settle the pricing on them and I'll start getting some of those.

yes i saw that, I don't think jim is to happy about that...

I defiantly want a 1u unit with the ports on the front, the MSA device i have is working very nice :) Just reading lots about how to get this lcd working...

Try the Firebox SDEC driver when you install LCDProc. Same connector, and looks like the same PCB design. You need to get the firebox lcdproc version from Fmertz's github I believe. Or someone else's... Whoever is the maintainer of LCDProc-Dev over at pfSense.

no idea where to start with that...

Link's or info ?

I don't believe untangle comes with any support for LCDs, if you see Jim's post in the announcment thread, he mentions how they gave him 0 support getting them to work, but they work now that Untangle themselves are selling them.

As much as I like what untangle does, that's some crap that they did to him with that.
