If you own the PC version of Mass Effect 3, the DLC character Bioware swore was not on the game disc....actually is and unlockable in three easy steps. See the video description for more info.

...yes, but the mission is a separate download that's hundreds of megabytes. The mission was not finished or included, but the character apparently was.

The More You Know!

Just because the mission wasn't on the disk doesn't mean it wasn't complete. What some people are taking from this is that because the character was on the disk, they were clearly developing his story line at the same time as the rest of the game. How much was done at that time is up for debate.

Well the squadmate himself was leaked like a year ago so they've been planning it for a while. However that and him being on the disc neither confirms nor denies any allegations made or Bioware and EA's statements on the matter. Bioware's wording is always carefully controlled and filled to the brim with double-speak and covering as many angles as possible to avoid people calling them out. It's a weird situation where we will never get any real answers and people's wild speculation will well run wild.

The funny thing about this whole situation is that it is easily solved. EA should have given From Ashes to everyone that bought the game new. The outcry wouldn't be there (outside of the usual online pass outcry) and it wouldn't have left a bad taste in people's mouths. Instead EA chose short-term profit over customer satisfaction.

What the hell does it matter if they decided to save a part of the game as an additional DLC? Everyone is making such a big fuss over it and saying that they're being cheated out of parts that "should have" been in the game. How is it that everything Bioware makes before the release date automatically belongs to you when you buy the game as they intended?

Yet people are assuming that just because the character can be unlocked and is voiced, the mission was also complete months before the game went gold and EA just took it out of the game for a quick buck, and any statements to the contrary are lies and should be ignored.

Since cut content has never been found in video game files.

I think part of the issue is that while the mission may not have been completed, it was clearly planned to be part of the original game. It seems likely that someone made the choice to remove this idea from the core game for the sole purpose of selling it separately. It's clearly not an afterthought.

"As stated previously, in order to seamlessly integrate Javik into the core campaign, certain framework elements and character models needed to be put on disc," the statement continues. "We did something similar with Zaeed and Kasumi in Mass Effect 2."

I got the DLC. It's a huge 600MB+ download. The majority of the additional content is definitely not on disc. The character is very well integrated into the story. He has a ton of dialogue and comments for just about every mission/situation. The dialog interaction is very natural between him and whichever other team member you bring on a mission.

Some of his dialog is pretty good.

<spoiler .. I guess?>
Tali: So you are a real, live prothean?
Javick: As opposed to a fake, dead one?
Tali: ok ..... (awkward silence)
</spoiler>

Scumbag Bioware Fans:

Complain when DLC characters like Kasumi and Zaeed don't interact with the rest of the crew.
Complain when Bioware integrates the DLC character with the rest of the game to solve that problem.

There is is no speculation or wild theories.

EA and Bioware created the content and deliberately left it out of the game so that you had to purchase $10 of DLC on Day 1 so they could pad their bottom line.

There's no other way to look at it.

What I said in my above post is a fact, and is neither speculation or a wild theory.

Bioware created content in a deliberate attempt to use it to earn money?

GOD FORBID.

I think Zaeed was my favorite party member NPC in ME2. Zaeed didn't give a fuck. His DLC didn't cost me anything, though.

I find it funny that people care about this so much. If they start working on it after the game its perfectly okay to charge you for it but if the team had it finished before the game came out its the worst thing in the world. What difference does it make when they developed the DLC? You either buy the game or you don't.

Tell me, did that "cut content" show up in a DLC? If so, was it removed for the express purpose of selling it as DLC?

For HL2 the answer is no in both cases. For EA, it is obviously yes to the first question. The second question is a ?. EA's rep leads me to believe yes, but I am not going to obsess over it. If people want to accept that sort of thing, it is their business. I wish they did not so that we could go back to buying full games again.

I never could justify paying $60 at launch, then another $15 - 30 each for 2 - 4 DLC packs. That is a lot of money for one game.

If they waited a few months to trot it out, then it would mean we bought the full game at release, and the DLC is like buying extra episodes of the game, not stuff that was developed along with the rest of the game, then trotted out Day 1 for some extra bags of cash.

Seriously, they aren't fooling anybody. $60 release day game, $10 release day DLC, so it's a $70 game.

The above image needs an update. Mona Lisa comes with Day 1 DLC deliberately left out of the game, with future upcoming DLC to be released later.

No one is forcing you to buy the DLC or the game for that matter. Its a $60 game with a $10 add on if you wish to buy it.

Who cares when they release it? I just find it funny that no one would care if they released this next month but since it came out the same time as the game its so terrible.

Day 1 DLC shouldn't exist, when you pay your $60 on release day, you should have the full game that you bought and paid for with your $60, not a $60 game with a good chunk of content left out cause they want you to pay a $10 "stupid tax" so you can get the missing content.

Seriously, Day 1 DLC for $10 is like a $10 tax on stupid people.

So you just insulted half of the people who bought the game, myself included. Good job :p

How about this: vote with your wallet. If you don't like the pricing, then don't buy it. Let the laws of supply and demand take over. If enough people don't buy it, price will come down. But don't go crying if the demand doesn't dictate a price drop.

HAHHAHAHA. This is the most irrational-on-its-face argument I've seen from you. And that's saying something.

Scenario 1: ME3 for $60, DLC for $10 on Day 1 - FAIL NO LIKE. FAIL SMASH!!
Scenario 2: ME3 for $60, DLC for $10 on Day 60 - FAIL SEAL OF APPROVAL.

Hey guys, I figured out how to please Fail. Just hold back content and sell it to him later. It doesn't matter if he gets the same amount of content for the same amount of money, as long as he has to wait for the DLC, it's A OKAY!

So its missing content if they release it on day one but if they wait a month to release it that's okay?

That makes no sense.

LOL, glad I bought the collector's edition and got it as part of the package. Since I buy collector editions for a limited number of games, I can see how people view this as an issue- but I like being rewarded for purchasing the collector's edition this way.

Great content too. Really enjoyed it.

I'm shocked that most of you are completely OK with day 1 DLC.

This trend, IMO, is what is going to absolutely kill the future of gaming.

Its not a trend anymore. DLC is the future of gaming and you see it with most games now, get used to it.

If I don't think a game is worth $60 I wont buy it.

Exactly. That's why I said $10 Day 1 DLC is a tax on stupid people.

I'm fine with free day one DLC or even offering pre-order exclusive items as paid DLC. The way EA handled this situation on the other hand.....

Why would Day 1 DLC bother me? If I don't feel its worth my money, I can skip buying it. If I don't feel the base game is worthwhile without the DLC, I can skip that too.

There are a lot of games and a lot of DLC I don't buy. I don't go around bitching about the fact that they exist. Not every single game or DLC is going to be designed to appeal to me.

Oh Lord, this caused me to roll my eyes.

I used to agree with you on a wide plethora of issues. I'm not sure we see eye to eye anymore, or if we ever did to begin with :(

Day 1 patch yeah, day 1 DLC for $10 if you didn't pre-order...F#@k off, I'll wait until this hit's the sales in a couple of years.

The fact that you are being completely logical in your reasoning makes you one of the stupid people :D:D

That's the only reasonable way to look at things.

Guarantee you can buy Mass Effect 3 Christmas 2012 (if the world doesn't end), and buy the game for less than $20, along with the DLC for half off or more, and get more for your dollar over getting it in the here and now.

You know who decides what the full game is? EA you dolt. The "full game" is whatever they decide to slap the $60 price tag on. You either buy it or you don't. You don't get to go into Bioware's studios and rummage around on their hard drives looking for content and decide "I DESERVE THIS BECAUSE YOU MADE IT!"

This is possibly the greatest single comment ever made on this subject. Everyone should listen to what this man says.

Hooray for the rights of the creators to create (or not) and the purchasers to purchase (or not)!

n=1.

You're just you, you don't speak for the population.

I would like to think that the majority of people here would much prefer to be sold complete product on day one rather than a bunch of pieces of the game that end up costing much more.

What did you have a problem with? Free DLC or generally small useless items being sold?

I love it! I'll pick up the "ultimate" pack with all the dlc included next year for $29.99

Of course I would rather get it all for one price. I'd also like to get all the cables I need when I buy a DVD player but the companies selling the DVD player are not obligated to give me cables if they don't want to.
