YES! Reason No. #1 to have a tablet is to be on the web and playing games while taking a decent dump, which can take some time if done right. I've tried it with a laptop and it just doesn't feel right. Sitting on the throne with a VAIO or MBP is just... :D

Anyway, my TF101 has replaced virtually all paper I ever printed stuff on. Since I have PDFs of anything that matters (work, lectures, private stuff...), I don't print anymore. Instead, I use software to make annotations and store my docs in the cloud. I can then view them on my tablet.

Other than that... not much use :p
 
I've always wanted a tablet, but I never felt like I needed one. Having said that, I got a tablet a few months ago when the ipad2 was gifted to me. I knew that I was going to get a tablet, so I stressed that the tablet needed to have 3G usability, otherwise, to me, its just one big ipod-like device, which I have many of.

So I got the ipad2 3G, and to me, I use it mostly to surf on the train, or read the limited number of magazines on newstand, I've even composed longer emails and thought it does great at what it does. Having 3G is amazing, I can get internet literally anywhere, it makes for a great tool on longer car trips. Whether anyone wants to check their email, surf, stream music, while functioning as a huge GPS.

Other than that though, at work, I use the ipad to stream my twitter feed, and house my "must-have" music collection (if only these things came with 400GB+ of space...). I like the itunes-style library that a tablet has as opposed to the interface of a phone.

If I didnt have 3G, the ipad, or any other tablet for that matter, would be useless to me.

IMO, tablets are fantastic if you travel a lot, whether by commute, or on a vacation somewhere. They are light, have 90% functionality of a laptop. I am going on a vacation soon, and I wont even bother taking my laptop, ipad all the way!

Not even close to 90% of a good laptop anyway. The only tablets that have 90% of the functionality of laptops are Windows tablets, which are functionally identical to laptops anyway.

But while I disagree I think your assessment is actually a prevailing opinion and explains perfectly why Microsoft making Windows 8 the way it is. Indeed for a lot of people that don't actually use laptops to their fullest extent a tablet might very well appear to be 90% or more as functional as a laptop.

You are thinking of hard functionality. For most people, tablets are like netbook useage: they surf the web, they work with email, they can watch streaming video from quite a few services. Reguardless of the netbook being much more capable than that (not quickly, lol).

That's about 90% for a lot of people I know in the office. Is that 90% technically? Probably just misses it (since I don't know how well Pages + Keynotes works with Word & PPT), however, anything else is just semantics, IMO.

Big plus is the battery life. I could be on the sofa browsing the website for a minute and don't need to power it off. Great battery life compare to notebook.

I actually sold my laptop and replace it with the tablet. I got a work laptop if i need to do any intensive task.
 
My Nook Tablet has been parked in its box for the past few weeks. I quickly learned there's nothing I need the Nook to do that my phone can't. I'd rather carry the smaller of the two gadgets.

Amen brother. I haven't used my laptop in 6 months. Thing just seems so horribly obsolete. Oh, and ICS out for the TF. Very nice indeed.

If you think that your laptop is obsolete then you probably never really needed to do the things that they are good for. ARM tablets for great for a lot of things but they still don't have the power to do a lot, not like a good laptop.

I agree.. But I have a desktop for any serious computing. But as a mobile device, and I'll take my Transformer any day.
 
Reading...I use it both for the Kindle App and a news reader (Pulse).
 
using Facebook while taking a crap and porn. Pretty much the same as my phone minus the occasional phone call.

I like that I don't have to sit down like I do with my Thinkpad. It can just barely fit in my front pocket if I need it to (though it's uncomfortable.)
Normally if I'm going to sit down to compute, I want my good desk, KB/mouse and LCD combo that I love. Last weekend I screwed with a bunch of cluster software in VMs on my desktop... and there's no way I would ever dream of doing that on a tablet or phone, unless I could also get them connect to the same desk, KB/mouse and LCD. By that point I might as well just keep my desktop computer where it is.
 
Touchpad: Toilet surfin'. Nothing like a couple episodes of Top Gear after chili night.

Much to the woman's chagrin, I have a Touchstone charging dock in the bathroom.
 
I absolutely love my 32gig Playbook for couch web, email, reading, comics, calendar, light typing, media on the go, and occasional toilet surfing (caviwipes are a must). I prefer the 7" size since the 10" tabs seems pretty cumbersome imo. I'm able to fit my tablet into coat and some of my jackets if needed. The greatest and primary use for my tab is using the hdmi out to play movies and music when there isn't a desktop around so I don't really need to put together an htpc. My friends are usually teasing me about not grabbing a transformer prime or ipad but my lovely playbook does everything I need and want really well for $250 :D
I don't need to drop $500+ for angry birds and cut the rope... Although a 7" ipad would be pretty enticing
 
I get stoned and have hours of fun with Photoshop with friends on my new Thinkpad.
 
I was skeptical for the longest time. Then I scored an iPad 2 and I'm hooked. I think it's the speed. I didn't know tablets were this fast

Still using my firesale Touchpad 32GB. Was using it almost every day even with WebOS installed, though after loading ICS on it last week... it's like a brand new toy :D

Use it to browse the web, read books on the Kindle App (ICS version works much better than the WebOS one), used it for studying VMWare PDFs last fall for my VCP4, and of course loading up TV and Movies that I haven't gotten a chance to catch up on so I can watch them at lunch at work (finally finished the first season of Spartacus that way). Heck, I just spend the last weekend at a board meeting so bored that I actually started to get into Angry Birds :eek:
 
paperweight. tablets suck. it'd be a waste of money if I hadn't gotten it so damn cheap (TP with ICS)
 
I use my TouchPad for movies and TV shows. Currently watching all of the X-Files seasons. On S3, E13 right now. :D
 
Browse the web here and there. Mainly when I squat and surf. Watch a few netflix movies when I'm trying to pass out. Few mini games like cut the rope. Other than that, it's a novelty item to me.
 
HP Touchpad. I mostly use it for browsing the internet and reading the Kindle app. I need to get ICS on it at some point..
 
I have an HP Touchpad 32gb with ICS and love it! Everything is silky smooth, fast, and netflix works like a champ!
 
Kids use their Kindle fires for 1) games 2) reading 3) media consumption

I use my nook color for 1) reading 2) media consumption 3) RDP into my desktops 4) as a DLNA compliant remote control

Honestly, unless you are consuming media of some sort or web browsing theres not a lot to be done with them, BUT I can always RDP into my main computers and start a handbrake task, etc.
 
I use my Nook Color (CM7.1 via uSD) for dumb word games, reading, watching Netflixc(very rarely), and that's about it.

Next tablet will have GPS and a cam.
 
Glorified remote mainly. Sonos/Control4/j.River Media Center. Have a few iPads lying around. Despite not being the world's greatest fan of Apple the Android tablets are a bad joke in comparison - hope Metro brings more to the table (probably hoping in vain, but I can hope).
Also casual games, toy software, that sort of thing.

You're far better served with a kindle. Eink simply beats the crap out of everything for reading.
 
Sold my Nook Tablet because it was thick and bulky. Now considering a Blackberry Playbook for movies, e-books, web browsing. The 64GB BP can be had for as little as $250. Not a bad price for what I want to do with it. The 2.0 OS can sideload Android apps, too.

I love the screen on the Samsung Tab 7.7 (SAMOLED yummy-ness), but not for $600+. :eek:
 
The extent of my G Tablet use is checking IMDB/Facebook when laying in bed watching TV and I'm too lazy to get up to grab my laptop. Even then it's hardly better than using my phone. Unless these new quad core Tegra 3 tablets are boat loads faster I don't see how anyone could use these things for web surfing. They're just too damn slow. They're not instantaneous like my actual computers and the load times make me furious.

I've been told that a LOT, but I'm still somehow not sold on them, lol. Mostly because I know color eink displays capable of playing 24fps video exist (just not in production scale), but maybe cause I want a tablet, even if I never use it as such :(
