If Charlie is right, then 8000 series is still some time away, so GK104 buyers need not worry about immediate depreciation of their hardware.

I waited for the 7970s and I couldn't be happier. Everything runs great! A nice upgrade from HD 5970. Gaming at 2560x1600 is amazing.

But I am waiting for Ivy Bridge E. But that could be the upgrade bug in me. There is still no compelling reason (gaming wise) to upgrade from what I already have. Everything runs great.

That is what I'm talking about. Patience pays off.

To what degree though? If you really want your patience to pay-off. Buy the low-end of each video card generation and play games from 4 years ago in glorious max detail settings. The benefit too being old games from 4 years ago will often sale for 90% off the original price. The downside being it'll be harder to find people to play co-op with and your friends will always be playing different/newer/better games.
