Newegg is a wasteland

Meh I split my purchases. Always go to newegg to get a nice starting price and it usually isn't beat.

Well sigh...I purchased a video card with newegg with 3 day shipping. I was just given a tracking number for ground which will take around 5 days to get here. I knew that I should have gone with Amazon.

Damn Newegg did you really get that bad, now I know why I find myself on Amazon more and more these days.

I don't order from newegg anymore unless it has free shipping and is a hot or smoking deal. Amazon just seems to beat out newegg time and time again.

It is sad to see considering newegg used to be my favorite place online for computer parts.

Damn them for getting all popular!

klank...

I feel the same way. I have been a very loyal customer to Newegg. Sometimes, I would gravitate to them even if their prices are a few dollars more. But lately, they are giving me less reasons to buy from them and more to seek elsewhere (Amazon). I found myself resorting to ebay buy-it-now sometimes...
Newegg used to be so good when they were younger. I have been their customer since their infancy.
Oh well.

This, I start at newegg and then price compare from there. I don't think it's so much that newegg isn't as good as it once was, I think it's just that there are some strong competitors out there now. Amazon still can't beat newegg on some of the components, like a gt 430 which I bought for 30 dollars 2 weeks ago or the CX-430 PSU I just got for $17 after MIR with free 3 day shipping.

I think it's the shipping that's killing newegg more and more now, just seems like they used to have a lot more stuff with free shipping. That and amazon prime is pretty amazing.

Yep..Amazon Prime is a boon for me. 1 to 2 days shipping for $3.99. I guess part of it is because Amazon has such deep pockets. They bought one of my friend's company (Zappos.com) last year or so for $250 mil (and they didn't have an IPO).

Gotta agree. Shipping sucks lately from Newegg. I got a high end mobo recently, packed in a box that was way too small, so they stuck it in diagonally. Not sure if it was that or not, but the board was DOA. Yay.

Amazon prime is simply amazing. I needed a PSU quick and found they had it for same day delivery for the same $3.99 that you pay for overnight. I didn't believe that I would get it the same day, but sure enough, I did. I've saved myself a ton of money on shipping in the last 9 months since I got a prime membership...

Ever since they put that warehouse in NJ i've basically stopped buying from them. Now their prices are at least 7% higher on everything. Its basically overnight shipping on anything I order by 3pm, but with my amazon prime sub even thats not worth it. Maybe if they had lower base prices and free shipping on more things, but if amazon has it to comparison shop, newegg is always more expensive net cost. Oh well :(

newegg is good to price check. And often buy to combine packages/save time if you're building a system, if I over pay by 20$ on 1500$ worth of stuff, "meh". If you are buying a single component, then I'll buy from who I can quickly find a reasonable price.

What if Newegg offered their own version of Prime shipping? Would you guys go for it?

Its called Shoprunner, for the same price as Amazon Prime, you get free 2 day shipping on everything from Newegg and a bunch of other retailers.

Not me - Amazon has so much product that I buy enough from them yearly that $80 for Prime is a bargain, plus I get streaming videos included with that. I don't buy that much from Newegg, so paying for Newegg Prime/Shoprunner/whatever would be a waste of money for me.

I used to be a huge Newegg advocate, telling everyone I knew that was the place to go.
this

they took their lead and blew it on expansion, not to mention going public.

we miss the fedex 2or 3 day saver, the mostly free shipping, return policies. yes many people used and abused the policies. so they arent to blame for all of it.

i used the rush order, they posted it shipped that night, but the tracking number did not work for 2 days, it took 5 days for 3 day shipping.

no newegg isnt going out of business. many of us will still use them, but it will be far less then before. ive done full builds where newegg was cheapest on nearly every part. now its cherry pick city.

these threads just prove we miss the old newegg.

Yes but the point is you still PAY for Amazon Prime. If you do a lot of buying on Amazon then it's great but I hate it when people just blindly say "you get free 2 day shipping at Amazon". I agree it's a great service if you do enough business on Amazon but some don't. And where did you get Prime for only $40????

PS: I can find plenty of deals at Newegg with free or low cost shipping as well. I think in the last 3-5 years I've only payed for shipping maybe twice.

Any body who knows a student got a free year, the next year was $40.. and probably will continue to be.

Add me to those buying less form the Egg lately...I've priced and ordered parts from Amazon which were priced less, even after I'm charged tax. My friend really loves Amazon Prime, he is finding lots of stuff to buy, not even electronics related. I wonder when is the point where Prime is worth it for me?

My spending at Newegg has slowed as well. Tigerdirect, Mwave and Amazon are getting more of my business. For me, it's about the deals. When newegg concentrated on computer stuff they could reduce costs but expansion has cost them.

This is how I am more or less. Not much Amazon here, but I slowly went to more and more Tigerdirect and Mwave to almost totally leaving New Egg out.

Last thing I bought from Newegg was a LOKI 92mm. Ordered on Sunday, got it on Wed. that was about a year ago. Previously they went out of their way to help me.

Amazon is often more expensive for things like videos cards, though some of them are comparable with the no tax. The main issue is Amazon does not sell too many computer parts outside of GPUs and CPUs. They hardly carry any motherboards ect. Most are sold by other sellers.

Often but not always. I ordered a 560Ti from Amazon a couple months ago for less then Newegg, plus faster and cheaper shipping.

Contact NewEgg and demand a refund on the shipping. They agreed to ship it 3 day when they took your money for it; if they don't refund it then escalate. I have been involved in enough bad experiences with NewEgg that I simply do not trust them anymore. I'll order if the deal is good but I always verify everything with them (including trying to make sure the new product I ordered was not a used one sent instead).

I cannot believe the things you guys are saying about Newegg.

First, Newegg has free 3-day shipping on many items, probably most of them. And for many people who live on the East Coast, that's overnight shipping. Amazon on the other hand, has good shipping only if you pay $80 a year for prime. (And again, Newegg's free 3-day shipping is better than Amazon Prime's 2-day shipping and just as good as its $4 1-day shipping for many on the East Coast.)

Second, Newegg's prices are usually extremely competitive, and it has excellent daily and weekly promotions and discounts (just a month ago, I got a refurb GTX 560 Ti for $135). For computer components (especially memory and video cards), I don't see anyone coming close to Newegg.

Finally, Newegg's customer service has always been excellent in my experience. They will basically give you anything you want if you ask for it and your request is reasonable.

yea, i'm not that familiar with the new marketplace shit on newegg so when i bought something i wound up buying it from some 3rd party seller and spent 5bux more than it was actually selling for from the egg.. by the time i had time to do anything about it it had already shipped so i'm screwed.. 5 bux isnt that big of a deal but still, and yea it was my fault for not looking close enough but i really do not like this new marketplace business..

I used to spend between $40k and $100k a year at newegg. They used to be amazing, no one else could touch them. Not taking PO/net30 purchases was a knock but we just credit carded everything. In the last 2-3 years they have gone to crap. Their offerings are always out of stock or have absurd item limits. They don't split orders well anymore. Many of our orders are p-cards that have a 1k limit per charge. Newegg used to split the orders fine for us all the time. Now forget it. Newegg now does take purchase orders and offers net30 purchasing but... They are no longer competitive. CDW, dell ,tigerdirect and amazon blow them out of the water 90/100 times. Market place items are a toss up.

I wish they would go back to their roots. Sadly I think that ship has sailed and is floundering on a reef somewhere.

Reduce those fractions, noob. :D

I agree, NewEgg is lackluster, as of current day.

Student Prime, look it up.

Secondly, not everything that has 'Free Shipping' is 3 day. (Light weight items come to mind.. *cough* my SSD)

Congratulations, you got a deal on a refurb video card; That's a niche deal.

Well, here's a thumbs up after all the NE bashing- I bought a video card on Tuesday and it arrived at my door yesterday and it was free shipping. Every once in a while, NE does come thru. I think the point most people on here are making is that NE used to be THE go-to place for everyone. Now, there seems to be plenty of other options.

Student email addresses are extremely easy to come by.

Oh really... lets see a non-student some how sign up for a student .edu address. Let me use my roll eyes smiley because I know what I'm talking about.

No need to be childish, a lot of people have graduated a long time ago and no longer have edu addresses for whatever reason. Doesn't mean they're working at Burger King. Also, going back to school for an .edu address doesn't seem to be a very feasible option. To get back on topic, yes Newegg has been on the downhill (in terms of price, service), probably since 2003. However, they do have some nice deals every now and then, just not like they used to.

I'm a hard core Amazon guy - I've spent over $100k there last year for business things, etc. The overnight shipping for customer needed parts rocks, I love buying groceries there, most of my components come from there, as well as household items...

However.. I just did 3x PFSense builds - NE beat Amazon by quite a bit on every item except for the RAM I wanted. Amazon was $9/cheaper per kit... everything else on NE was cheaper. So.. in probably 5 years, NE got $2k out of me because they were cheaper. Now... I just have to wait for their shitty packaging and have to wait for 15 different packages to show over the next week.

With Amazon, almost without exception, if I order everything on the same day, I get everything 2 days later. Not some ground, some 3 day, some paid shipping, some free shipping, etc with NE.

I'm in MA. I ordered a HDD enclosure friday. This is what todays tracking info looks like:

Between Newegg's mediocre pricing and horrific shipping, i'm thinking this is the last order I place with them.

What exactly is the problem there with the shipping?

The two days its spent bouncing between Jersey and Maryland?

If I ordered on Amazon from a NJ warehouse, it would have been at my door on Saturday.

What does that have to do with Newegg? Thats the shipping service's route, Newegg doesn't control that.

NewEgg does control that -- they always have the option to ship via a different carrier or insist the carrier treat their packages well. Or maybe get both carriers to offer identical shipping rates so the consumer can decide.

I, for one, refuse to order anything from them that involves EggSaver Shipping. I don't care for my package to be flown about in DHL-hell before being handed off to the USPS for local delivery 2 weeks later.

Haha, what? Newegg does NOT control the shipping routes of shipping distributors. Carriers create the shipping routes based on the quickest route of travel to its destination based on groups of packages. Also, consumers CAN decide on their shipping carrier between FedEx, UPS and cheap alternative prior to purchase, want one of those instead then pay the tiny difference and quit crying over your FREE SHIPPING option. Newegg can insist all they want to treat their packages well, but will the shipping carrier care? No. Take a look at Youtube and watch videos on the mishandling of packages.

I've never had a problem with Newegg's pricing, shipping or customer service. Everyone is so impatient despite the majority get their packages in the expected time frame. Don't like how your items are shipped? Take it out on the carrier, not the distributor.
