So I have my Google offer for $40 I need to spend asap and looking through NE and have come to the realization the site has become a wasteland of "marketplace" sellers and out of stock for almost anything I would want. Not to mention the stuff I do find is usually way more expensive than Amazon.

What happened Newegg? What happened!

Corporate "we must grow to survive" bullshit instead of just focusing on what they do/did great. Instead of continuing to be the place to go for computer stuff they are on the cusp of wrecking their business model by trying to compete with Amazon.

Well what has happened was.. I was in the same boat. Been waiting for some awesome deal to pop up but nothing pique my interest. I settled on ordering the Corsair Force GT 120gb. Ended up paying $125 after coupon and there's a $30 rebate so knocks it down to $95. Corsair rebates are usually quick and painless IMHO. Now I need those 8gb laptop memory deal to pop up and I'll be set.

It's pretty embarrassing IMO - I think the site is as bad as sears. or walmart's - maybe worse. I miss the days when only nerds knew about NE.

I have noticed similar trend. I used to purchase everything electronic through newegg and even recommended them to friends for their prices and service. Unfortunately, although the services are still stellar (at least from my own experience) but the availability and pricing standards have been eroding at a precipitous rate.
I now split my purchases and looking for deals between newegg and amazon.

Since getting Amazon Prime I have only purchased at NewEgg once. Their prices just aren't as compelling in comparison when I get 2 day shipping for free at Amazon, and though their service is fantastic, Amazon is just as good if not better.

I am building a SFF PC for work and unless Fry's has same/less prices, I will be ordering 100% through the egg.

Micro Center, please end your current in store only policy for all of the good stuff, I plead you please!

You do know that Amazon Prime Free 2 shipping isn't exactly free right? Not saying that it isn't better than Newegg but there is a catch as in the subscription price itself....

FYI...i just ordered a AMD cpu/mobo combo from Newegg for a screaming deal. $40 off combo plus 2 coupon codes for an extra $24 off....and free 3 day shipping. So good deals can be had.

I used to buy almost all my computer equipment from Newegg, now I can't remember the last time I bought something from them. They just aren't what they used to be. Good thing I live by a Microcenter now.

With one 20 mins away I dont mind the drive. I'm one of the lucky people with a MC relatively close.

I've ordered a lot of "open box" stuff from newegg. 6x2TB drives at $50 each, heatsinks, etc. Most of the time they are fantastic deals with little/nothing missing. Just be wary of open box motherboards (no accessories, etc)

Everything else is Amazon for one simple fact: no effing restocking fee.

They still have some good deals occasionally, but not on top tier products. All their sales on graphics card for example are for mid to low range cards.

Luckily, Amazon Prime doesn't only get you "free shipping".

I would probably shop at Newegg more if their shipping wasn't so terrible. Last time I ordered RAM they just mailed it in a foam envelope and that took like a week to get to my house with their crazy economy shipping. Though I will admit I am spoiled by Amazons Prime service.

However, I think the main reason I really stopped using Newegg as my go to site is because I've gotten more and more into just shopping exclusively things that are on sale, and well Newegg sales haven't been so great this last year. This tends to lead me jumping site to site which I really don't mind since none of these sites recognize any type of customer loyalty. I remember when you could write Newegg a thank you note and they'd send you all types of cool newegg and hardware manufacter swag. I mean sure it was all promo stuff, but who doesn't like free swag especially branded with your favorite vendors' logos.

My spending at Newegg has slowed as well. Tigerdirect, Mwave and Amazon are getting more of my business. For me, it's about the deals. When newegg concentrated on computer stuff they could reduce costs but expansion has cost them.

I still spend money on newegg every once in a while. I used my $40 google coupon on

These when they went on sale for $40 effectively getting them for $20. Extremely happy with them.

What really helps is signing up for the newegg daily deals email. A lot of items are only onsale for a couple hours and get overlooked or sell out quick.

I pay $40 a year for prime and I think it is a steal. You get tons of free movies and free 2 day shipping. It's really nice when you need something small and they ship at no cost.

But the free shipping on orders over $25 doesn't help newegg's case either.

I started buying off of newegg because back in my hardcore frugal days I would buy every part through pricewatch. and newegg was ALWAYS the cheapest hit. I started buying only from them for a few years. Lately though they are just awful. Low stock, no more watercooling components, horribad prices, expensive shipping. Amazon prime has been my goto for some time now
gg newegg

Newegg is amazing. You just need to keep your eyes open for great deals (make sure to subscribe to its promotion emails). In the past few months, I got 8GB of 1600 DDR3 memory for $20, and a GTX 560 Ti for $136. No other retailer came close to those prices.

I used to feel confident shopping at the Egg without question, but these days, I have to check. Consequently, about 60% of my purchases come from Tiger or Amazon. (I'm a careful shopper, and almost never buy anything unless it's got a code/discount available. Seems to me that, in more recent times, the deals aren't on the things people are really wanting to buy very often.)

I live in southern New Mexico, and lately, it appears most of my Newegg orders come from the East Coast, even though I am far closer to California, and shipping times take one to two days longer than they used to when they shipped from Cali. Orders don't seem to process as quickly as they used to, either, and I won't pay $2.99 just for priority processing.

Never had to return anything through Newegg, but I read Feedback every time before I buy something; customer satisfaction counts for a lot. Seems like there's more negative feedback left about Newegg than ever before.

Yes but the point is you still PAY for Amazon Prime. If you do a lot of buying on Amazon then it's great but I hate it when people just blindly say "you get free 2 day shipping at Amazon". I agree it's a great service if you do enough business on Amazon but some don't. And where did you get Prime for only $40????

PS: I can find plenty of deals at Newegg with free or low cost shipping as well. I think in the last 3-5 years I've only payed for shipping maybe twice.

Everytime I make a purchase at newegg, i shop all the competitors i am aware of... Newegg is either same price or better price for all the things im looking for (motherboards, cpu, video cards, etc) exception is microcenter in store stuff deals.

Laptops and tv's newegg isnt so hot usually, but anyway Amazon never impresses me. Everytime i look at computer parts at amazon their prices send me running for the hills. Who pays $250+ for a used two generation old card ? or $179 for a 5770 when newegg has them for $89 ....

Haven't bought anything at NE in a long time, and price and availability has been the reason. Their deals aren't even luke warm anymore, and they are generally OOS on the stuff you want.

I doubt I'll go back. Been using Amazon for a couple years and they are far and away the better option for almost anything.

$70 or $80 for an entire year of Prime is a steal. You get their cloud storage, access to their streaming shows and movies, AND free 2 day shipping for the whole year. Generally you can make up that $80 with just a couple purchases on Amazon in my experience, and if you factor in the shipping it may be even less. Couple it with their rewards credit card and it's an absolute no-brainer.

You can get Prime for 40$ by being a student. My renew period is on and I have a 50% off for the next year. 39$.

do they ever have prime go on sale sort of to say or it always the same 70-80 a year

I'm tired of them using DHL for the eggsaver shipping now. That company sucks balls. They always take the maximum 7 days too get it too me and according to there tracking they always bypass me by 500+ miles when shipping from California. They leave it set in that warehouse for days then they ship it back this way.

Lenin is right, besides I purchase a lot of books through Amazon and with in the first 2 months since I paid for my subscription I had already made up for it for the $79 dollars for shipping fees. Its not just books, and computer stuff as well. The free streaming video isn't too bad, and I don't want to think what shipping would have cost on that 40 pound kettle bell would have cost me...or the TV, Keyboard, Monitors, movie collect.....this could go on for a while. lol If you use Amazon a lot, Prime is well worth it for the 2-day shipping or even the Release-Date Delivery! Besides, I gave up on trying to get Black Library novels from the local Hastings or B&N stores.

Amazon is useless from browsing though. There search is utter rubbish. Also, it seems like Amazon only carries the most popular items so there is no selection becasue anyone on there market place that isn't fulfilled by amazon is out of there mind on pricing or shipping. Usually in my experience amazon has never been cheaper. Seems like Tiger is the place to go from cards. Directron has had some good ram pricing when I was shopping for ram a month back.

Too bad hopefully they will not drop the egg and go back to the old roots again. I used newegg and tigerdirect mainly for my first pc build with a few deals on [H] :D

Ummm...it has been going this way for a while.

Only 12 months ago, when I started receiving severely under-protected items in shipping containers did it really hit home. My motherboard in my sig was new in retail box, in the bottom of the shipping container with nothing under it and some effing packing recycled paper on top of it. Same thing happened with an HDD order.

Agreed. It's like it was specifically designed to be as crappy as possible.

The only one that *might* be worse is Buy.com.

Have you been keeping track of what I wrote? Nobody is disputing the fact that it is a good deal for those who purchase from Amazon a lot..point is you pay for Amazon Prime so it's not free 2 day shipping for everyone.
