Crucial M4 SSD 256GB for $310 @ Newegg

its $355.99 as of Feb 20 12:26pm PST

where is $310 at unless there is a coupon

I saw 256gb at Amazon for 310 on Saturday. Took a look at Azon today and the price for Crucial m4 256Gb was back up to $334.

The 256gb for $310 at Amazon was a gold box deal. Bummer it only lasted for a short while. Would've jumped on it but sadly too late :(

Damn. I would have picked this one up. I have one for my computer at work and the performance is insane. Don't forget to buy a true sata3 cable for maximum performance!

There is NO difference in speed between the two cables. Only difference is the sata3 cable is designed to be backwards compatible with sata2. I know some will say it is a little thicker to handle higher data flow. But honestly who hasn't got the rated speeds using a crappy sata2 cable on a sata3 ssd.

Good deal on the drive but I bought the "Force GT", so I'm going to stick with it I guess. Thanks

The specs have never changed from SATA1.

I'm shocked to see anyone on this forum still believes there's a difference. :(

Explain why the drive score for the windows experience tool increased from 5.xx to 7.something? Change the cable back from sata 3 to sata2 and the score reverted to 5.something.

Does anyone know how long after you purchase something newegg will credit the difference if the price goes down?

I think its typically a "one time thing only" if purchased within a couple days.

No one cares what windows experience thing says. I guess you do and if that makes u happy than good for you.

Wow, even more reason not to trust that crappy score.

Your original cable was BAD, not making a good connection, or WEI was just in a bad mood.

Unbelieveable especially from a 2[H]4U, of 8.9 Years.

If you believe there's a difference please show me in the SATA specs where a SATA1 cable is different from a SATA3 cable.

Or is it just magic? LOL!

Okay, everyone take a chill pill. For starters, if you notice, I rarely ever get into benchmark discussions but the result seemed to fly in the face of what everyone here is proclaiming to be the absolute truth. The SATA 2 cable is fine, it came from a functioning computer that my new machine is replacing. I'm very familiar with drive behavior with a bad cable, that aint happening here. In either case performance FELT the same and I got the desired result with the SATA2 cable, but as far as the index is concerned it increased when I changed to the SATA 3 cable.

So I don't care that some of you don't care about the score. I myself are one of those people that normally don't give a rats ass about that score (I also don't play GFX benchmarks in my spare time) but stuff like an SSD like the Crucial M4 showing a 5.0 on a Core I7 system is something that I think all of you would take notice of.

Technically SATA3 should work fine with a SATA 1 or 2 cable but SATA3 cables have extra shielding. I'm thinking my system just benifitted from the shielding. It's a Dell Optiplex 990 afterall. That thing is plenty noisy electrically, and I have access to a few so it's something with the design or at least the run we received.

Anyone ever ordered anything from buy.com? I've never done business with them.

Quick question for someone that knows the details on these SSD's. I currently have a V3 MAX IOPS 120GB SSD but need more space for m primary so I'm either going to go with this Crucial M4 256GB or the Intel 520 240GB SSD. Is the Intel SSD worth the addtional cost? (I haven't checked to see if it's much faster since it just came out, justifying the cost).

Thanks

deal is dead but buy.com is very legit. I've bought multiple things from buy.com in the past, including gpus and power supplies.

I haven't ordered anything from them in ~10 years, but did a good bit of business with them 2000-2002ish...

As long as you don't expect customer service, then Buy.com is as good as Newegg. Too bad they charge NY sales tax.
