Looking to get the wife a gaming chair so that she's ready to play Mass Effect 3 on the X-BOX 360 the night it comes out. Would like to get her something nice. By nice I mean...

Anything you guys might have actually used and recommend?
Something maybe that rumbles, shakes?
I would prefer that it didn't rock like a rocking chair.
Maybe something like this but not so low to the ground.

Thanks!

what is your price point.

there was a gaming chair i saw that is crazy nice looking but also crazy expensive.

I personally don't see the point of a "gaming" chair.

HDTV + surround sound home theater setup + comfy couch/recliner = win.

Waste of money. No other words can describe this further. If you want one then you are after the cool factor rather than comfort. If you want to simulate the feel sit on a cushion next to the wall and put another cushion on your back. Your legs will feel like cheese after 30min of gaming.

To me a gaming chair is for the kids. Meaning the adults sit on the couch and the kids sit on the floor, they are low so as not to block the view of the adults. I am not sure what the advantage of those is otherwise. When you say wife, I assume she is an adult and you will be booting the kids off the couch. If you are nice you can buy them one of these, otherwise they can sit on a pillow, or nothing at all in my case and just suck it up.

Get a really nice comfy chair. It will probably be expensive, since this will probably be for extended periods of sitting.

Put speakers in the headrest.

Not sure what you could do for rumble. I was going to suggest putting a sub into the seat, but I think that'd just give your wife something to smile about.

Just get a ergonomic chair, good for your posture and body =) Take a look at the Steelcase leap chair and make sure your mouse, keyboard, monitor height, etc is correct.

Meh, I guess you guys are right. I've got a nice HDTV and a nice suround sound system. I'll just scoot the couch up three feet or so and that'll be fine.

Thanks.

Don't forget these. :)

Well for PC gaming, which is all I do, I don't recommend "gamer" chairs as they seem to be designed by idiots by and large. When you are sitting in a chair ergonomics are what matters. For that, you want to look at a good chair designed with it in mind. The Steelcase Leap is what I use, other good options are the Humanscale Freedom and the Herman Miller Aeron.

I agree with most of the other replies. A gaming chair is kind of dumb. On the PC get a nice desk chair like a Leap or Aeron, and for console gaming get a nice sofa/loveseat/recliner.

holy shit does it really take more than $600 to get a good chair? Any good pc chairs for under 300?

I wasted 3 months of my life buying, trying and returning so-called high end ergonomic task chairs. I went back to my 8 year old Best Buy special with two busted armrests and broken recline feature instead. These are the most overrated and overpriced pieces of hardware I've ever tried.

You can buy all the parts that go into gaming chairs. Transducers / vibrators whatever and so on. But honestly you are better off buying a real HT system which will make it sound good not bad gamer chair tweeters.

Wait for it...

Cool part is transducers are dirt cheap. Something like this with a $30 T-Amp and a good sub and you're golden.

Second the Look into an ergonomic office chair. Steelcase, Herman Miller, Raynor, etc... are all good bets. The objective is not to be super "comfy", if that's what you're feeling you're doing it wrong. A good ergonomic chair is supposed to keep you alert, in good posture, without being UNcomfortable.

If you wait a few hundred years, you can pick up one of these badboys:

But seriously, I think some people are missing the point of a good gaming chair.. a place to store and keep your beer cold.

Get a task chair with arms the leather manager chairs maybe comfortable when you sit in them but your back will become lazy and take the form of the leather aka Manager chair. I had one for 5 years I bought at Office max I wish I didn't. Now I use a task chair with arms.

Here is mine http://www.nixim.com/forums/album.php?albumid=7&attachmentid=155
Bought primarily for simracing and simflying but it does it all. It does bit sofa/recliner. I don´t know but the snug fit from the racing chair just make it more immersive also for regular gaming.

My reclinable bed on the other hand is stiff competition for gamepad gaming. Perfect companion lol.
