Dell U3011 coming soon.

I tried to have Dell send a new base out for mine, as our scratches are similar. They are caused form them not securing the DVI cable, while insisting to ship it attached to the monitors port. They refused to ship the base, and insisted on shipping a completely new monitor to bounce around in the truck for another 9 days as it travels to Canada. If the new monitor has even the slightest issue, I'll swap the bases, and return the replacement. If they feel I'm competent enough to put it on a Vesa mount, I can't see why thet wouldn't just ship the base ? BTW, the girl on the phone insisted that it would be an all new monitor, this is without me even asking

Yea, I tried to have them just send the base for the first one, but the language barrier was frustrating both of us and they said I was going to get a new monitor anyways. Now this base is perfect, but the panel is junk. I'm gonna give the 3rd one a chance, and then I may just stick with it cause this is a hassle.

Just plugged in the 3rd one, and right away 2 stuck pixels jumped out at me. And it has multiple faint green boxes and lines running down the right side. Here comes #4.
I've never had this many issues with any monitors I've bought in the past, and they were all cheap. Oh well. White people problems, lol.

Whew! My u3011 just arrived today and no stuck pixels. There is a little bit of light bleed in the corners, but that has never bothered me on my Dell 3007's.

Mfg date: January 2012
Rev A05
Assembled in Mexico
Shipped out of Nashville

So far, so good!

That sux ! Well I didn't need to swap bases, the 2nd one came unscratched and was another trouble-free panel, so I'll just send the first one back. I will give it a day or 2 just to make sure there are no pixel issues. I "ALMOST" feel bad for getting 2 good ones in a row !

So Dell Canada has the u3011 on for $1049, down from $1399. I take it this is a great deal?

it was $999 for 2 days a couple of weeks ago. I think 999$ is the lowest price that it semi-regularly goes. I'm fairy sure it has gone down to 970ish before.

$999 is the cheapest I've seen the "current" Dell 30" monitors for. I went through my old Dell emails, and nearly bought a 3008 at that price, I was trying to use a coupon the day before and it wasn't working on the 3011, which would have dropped it to $1049, the next day they went to $999. Considering what they charged for the originals. it seemed a fair price

They've had it for $999 a few times since fall 2011. I picked mine up when someone posted a code for an extra 10% off :)

Sweet setup. Bad ass speakers :D That single large display looks so much better than my smaller Eyefinity system. I really need to go back to a 30". Used to have the Apple 30" Cinema Display, I miss it so much. Will most likely pick up a Dell 30" this year.

Will there ever be a larger than 30" PC Monitor anytime soon, like a 33"/34" with a resolution of 3200x2000 ?

i would like to know this as well....30 inch 2560x1600 is the only thing i see these days...other than 5760x1080/1200 3 monitor surround setup

if I had to guess? the industry stopped worrying about large displays and moved towards single displays with 120hz and 1080p resolution

I have experience with both, a large single 30" display, and now three displays in Eyefinity @ 5760x1200res, and for sure feel the single 30" is better. Actually the best setup is a 30" flanked on both sides with 20" monitors at 1200x1600res. Do the new ATI cards finally support Picture + Landscape + Picture mode yet ? I thought Catalyst 12.2 was maybe going to support that ? Or some new drivers this year ?

Anyone have any Dell coupons that'll work on Monitors!? I'm splurging for one today or tomorrow, and I know there are sometimes decent coupons out occasionally.

Whelp, I just splurged on a u3011!

Dell Canada had the deal on for $1049, and then I also had a 5% off coupon when I logged in (which I didn't know about). So it ended up being $950 + taxes. Not too shabby! Might take a few weeks to get here but that's ok, I have my 2312 to tide me over until then!

Just ordered 2 more Dell u3011 monitors - $999 each! I had then pricematch to my previous order from 2 weeks ago that was pricematched to the Dell CA price!

I sure hope these two turn out to be as good as the first one!

I have a 3007WFP, how much do you think I could sell it for? I might need to upgrade to the U3011 version :)

Just received confirmation mine just left a factory in the US. I thought these are manufactured in China? Dell Canada told me mine was being produced in the US, and it would be shipped directly from the factory to me. Is that odd?

Also, Dell's support is both amazing and horrible. They phoned me the next morning after my online order and gave me a number to call back. When I called they said there was no reason on the system, but that they would transfer me to a different department. That dept. told me it was only for the US, so they put me through to the Canadian dept. That dept. was for Americans currently traveling in Canada (they are that specific?), so they put me through to the Canadian tech support. This was the first time I got someone in North America, and he felt some sympathy for my runaround. So he called (with me on the line) Dell Canada's customer service centre, and they basically told us "there is no reason that you were called, we apologize." So that was fine, I didn't really care about the 20 minutes, but then something weird happened.

The customer service guy started apologizing profusely for the inconvenience, and said my order would be upgraded (in terms of service) so that I would receive a phone call every time my item was moved or shipped or handled. I told him it wasn't necessary, but he wouldn't take no. So I've now received a phone call each time there has been a change in the order (so when it left the factory and when it was shipped). Kind of odd, I'm now dreading every time it reaches a new warehouse along the way because I'll get a call from a call centre. Kind of weird service, considering I can get the same information on Purolator's tracking website.

In any case, it should be hear this upcoming week, so I'm excited for that!

Mine said Made in Mexico. I assume/guess the electronics and panel are of Asian origin that are assembled in Mexico.

Wow, and for a second I actually was worried if I made the right decision. Reading all the issues in this thread made me second-guess myself.

My U3011 just came in, and there isn't a dead pixel anywhere on this baby, and the stand and bezel are in perfect condition!

Awwwwww yeaaaaah!

Just got mine in. Amazing how big the space is.

And yeah, turning down the brightness is required. But I'm having trouble finding the right balance. 50 burns my eyes, but 20 or below seems a bit too dark. I'll have to experiment.

Also, my screen does not have uniform colour. The left side is much cooler than the centre (which actually has an almost purple tinge). It's distracting when using a monitor of this size.

Any advice on that? Or is this something I should be returning it for, or just living with?

are you using standard preset for color? i use sRGB, and many recommend that as well...its actually the "true" color that you should be looking at...and I agree that 50 brightness, and standard preset is pretty overpowering....but 50 brightness and sRGB is just fine

if you have color uniform problems, it might be time for RMA :(

I have had my U3011 for a while, on the standard preset -- I changed it to sRGB, and everything has a rather strong red/pink tint...is this normal, or is it just my perception of it?

I plan on picking up a matching U3011, but don't really want to pay > $1k for it...has anyone had luck calling Dell trying to get a lower price, or should I just wait for it to be $999?

well sRGB isn't suppose to be any more red or pink than standard preset...the colors does look more subtle though

basically sRGB color preset is what its "suppose" to look like....standard preset is just too over powering and isn't really accurate....so if you think standard "looks" better, thats fine, but in reality you're just "use" to standard colors...and sRGB is what its really suppose to look like, even though it might look "duller" ....but sRGB is not suppose to give it any pink or red tint to it...if it does, then Dell probably screwed up with that calibration

I have it on sRGB, I've turned down the brightness to 10 or so. Still that colour shift on some parts of the screen. No pixel problems though.

I know this is a horrendeous way to actually check color accuracy, but I took a picture of it! Even in the picture, it looks very tinted. Do you think this may have been calibrated wrong? Any idea what I could do about it? (If I called them complaining, I'd imagine they'd just laugh at me, as there is probably nothing actually wrong with the monitor itself)

that does look pretty pink

if you do live chat, they are very helpful...just let them know the monitor is bad...don't try to say "oh it MIGHT be bad, but can you confirm?" or something like that...just let them you theres definitely something wrong...and they will be more than happy to send you a replacement

There's definitely something wrong, assuming the monitor on the right is properly white-balanced.

With mine I've looked at it a bit more closely and I'd say the rightmost 10-20% is very cold compared to the rest (across all settings including sRGB). What if I do an RMA and they just say "too bad"?

The thing is, I'd assume I will get a refurbished replacement...I'm not sure if that is a good thing, since the only thing wrong seems to be the preset calibration.

Quick update - my 2nd and 3rd Dell u3011's arrived today. They are both made in Mexico and are A05's. After checking for stuck pixels I'm happy to say there are none on either display. There is a slight bit of light bleed in the bottom left and right corner, but other than that these are in excellent condition!

well if you just bought the thing, it shouldn't be refurb...

After using the 3011 for a day I'm starting to regret the purchase a bit. I think a 27" would have been a better fit (unfortunately no way to really test different sizes out where I am, no one carries these kinds of monitors where I live). Add to that the colour issues on the monitor (darker on left side, warmer on the bottom half) which are worse than any TN panel I've used, and I think I'd like to return this. How good is Dell with returns?

they are pretty good...as long as you bought it from them

just let them know you aren't satisfied...don't tell them "well im kinda not satisfied"...rip it to them and they will oblige :)

I bought it directly from Dell Canada.

I won't do it right today, I'll give it a few days just to make sure I'm not rash. But yes, if I do return it I will make it clear I am not satisfied.

And then they can resell it to other people here who have returned theirs for exchanges. ;)

Who knows, I am simply RMA it to see if the next one has no major issues. If the entire monitor was like the top-centre of mine then I could deal with the size, I think. But with the left side of the monitor being darker than the rest, it makes me think I'm using my old TN panel, and I keep subconsciously shifting to the left to get a better viewing angle to stop the darkening!

Unfortunately that doesn't work. :(

When someone does an RMA with Dell, do they typically send the replacement first, or would I need to send mine first, and then wait a few days without a monitor?

they send you a replacement first and you send the defective one back...they give you a shipping label as well

Has anyone bought a sound bar for this monitor? I have my monitor in an enclosed space so making the speakers fit beneath the monitor would be a great use of space. I know Dell has this one available:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=313-8742

I'm just wondering if there's any other options out there that would be better and I don't mind spending more since I will only be getting the sound bar and not surround sound speakers.

Hey guys! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I just received one of these amazing monitors and I couldn't be any happier with it. One question though, is anyone having weird lines on the post screens. It didn't do it back with my old 1200p monitor and I don't think its my video card since it's new, sapphire 7970. Any help is appreciated.

I don't notice any weird lines on the POST screen...and I've been lurking around the U3011 threads for almost a year...haven't heard of anybody else reporting lines during POST screen either

New U30 here, and no lines whatsoever here. Sounds strange if otherwise your picture is unaffected.
