Far Cry 3 trailer

Wish they would just redo the original with all the latest dx11 spiffery. Id gladly pay $40 for that.

I can't get excited about anything Crytek puts out anymore. They really went downhill after Crysis.

Far Cry 3 and also Far Cry 2 have nothing to do with Crytek, they sold the name to Ubisoft years ago. The only games Crytek have put out since Crysis were Crysis: Warhead and Crysis 2.

Could be good, but probably won't be.

From the videos I have seen, it looks like a straight console shooter. It might not be a bad console title, but the pc port is not likely to make many pc gamers all that happy.
Especially if Ubi decides to go whacky with the DRM. Ubi hates PC gamers, so I am doubtful they will do more than a rudimentary port and then wrap it in a DRM scheme the pirates beat in a week, but gives a bunch of people that actually paid for the game fits.

Who knows, maybe I will be surprised.

Pre-rendered "trailers" = always a bad sign
They've shown game play before, and it looked pretty good.

As for this trailer, at least the game attempts to have a legitimate story and to try to get you to understand and connect with the characters, unlike most FPS games.

No way will I fall for it again.

I'll never forget right up through the hyped reviews (94/100 PC Gamer as an example) the marketing and PR campaign for Far Cry 2 and what a letdown that ended up being.

I still want to play THAT game that as it was originally hyped.

AWARDED!!!

Most anticipated $5 steam sale title of 2013

The user feedback, youtube videos, and the rest of it that I'm going to have to see to change my mind from basically agreeing with you there is going to have to be something.

When you make three games with literally no connection between them but pretend like theyre sequels because you're afraid a new IP would fail on it's own merits you know it's not looking so hot.

FC2 sounded really cool, but was such a boring turd of a game.
A true sequel or remake of the first Far Cry is sorely needed.

Prerendered trailers do nothing to increase or decrease my excitement in a game. Give me gameplay or don't bother.

Even worse then,Ubisoft spends more time on stupid anti-piracy schemes than they do on their games.

Far Cry 2 was such a flaming pile of crap. Within an hour I was e-mailing STEAM support to see if there was some magical way for me to get my money back.

I want that game, too.

I also got hyped into FC2......and totally hosed.

I do believe this game will be beter than Dead Island, though.

Far Cry 2 is very unique in gaming for me at least because I can genuinely call it "Frustratingly bad". Which is unusual for me.

Far Cry 2 looked amazing when it first came out. It was used commonly as a benchmarking tool for videocards. The gameplay was excellent. Shooting was tight all the guns shot for the most part how I wanted them to. Open world mission structure with an interesting and current affair story. Healing was a bloody and amusing process. Health packs made a comeback.

On the surface Far Cry 2 hit every note (expect the gun wear while being a good idea could have been tuned a little better) and thats why it got 9/10 with every reviewer and at the same time showed everyone how completely full of shit reviewers are.

About 5 missions in you repeat a mission and then the next mission a repeat of the previous mission and so on. You literally complete the exact same 5 missions somewhere(I'd have to pull up my stats) in the range of 100 times!!! I'm not exaggerating. These are not side missions. about 12-20 hours in you're dodging every fight you can. Completing missions long distance just to avoid the redundancy. Completing missions with just a knife or pistol or sniper rifle anything to keep some semblance of uniqueness. After that you're just begging for this FUCKING game to end and then... it does. Not even a cut scene or a climax. halting mid mission text on a plain background. done.

I and I'm not a violent person, put my fist through my keyboard I was so angry that I'd put myself through that. It wasn't even about the money. The time and energy you put into it just feels so goddamn wasted. There's no way in hell any Reviewer completed the game from beginning to end. It's impossible.

You're sick...how the hell did you force yourself through 20 hours of Far Cry 2?

I'd say I managed 15 hours of it. It may have had something to do with being on meds for a busted back and having a glass or two of whisky at the time, but who can say. ;)

I'd say I spent most of the time playing it not actually completing many objectives, but wandering the savannah starting brushfires and ambushing forts/checkpoints.

All they needed to do with that game was add a little STALKER formula, remove shit sidequests, slow down the voice acting, stop the almost instant repopulation of guards, make the factions more interesting and fix the gun degradation.

I liked Far Cry 2 and I would love this game, but knowing Ubisoft they will put their shitty DRM on the PC version so why bother.

Yea, not buying a Ubisoft game until there's a much more gentle DRM scheme than a razor blade/needle lined butt plug.

I did and it really wasn't as close to as bad as many who gave up early like to say it was. I hated the repetition, but just kind of relaxed and had fun with it instead of trying to finish as fast as I could and got better and better at attacking the little checkpoints. That's kind of the problem with having such an open world. A lot of things will be repetitious. I'd rather see them return to the original where it was open, but things were more focused.

It helped if you used the bus system and water canals as much as possible, this way you're able to avoid a lot of the checkpoints.

I'll definately wait for the reviews before buying this one.

The reviews for FC2 were so full of BS that they defied belief. I have little doubt that they will be just as gentile with FC3.

Actually, I know at least one of the reasons how FC2 was rated so highly by reviewers at first. They played the first 45 minutes of the game, then wrote their review. For the first 30 minute to an hour, the game really looks like it is going to be a really good title. It is sometime after that point, where you realize that the game is going to continue to repeat itself until it is over. So I could see how reviewers looking to get their reviews out as fast as possible, could easily over rate that game.

Anyway, no Jack, no Valerie = not FarCry to me.

Gentiles as opposed to Jewish? :p

Sorry that was too easy.

Far Cry 2's situation that you refer to is what finally locked me down once and for all in believing just how bad and far the payola is for gaming reviews from most if not all of the major outlets.

Easy example: PC Gamer 94/100. LOL...go read that thing again and see if you wouldn't mind playing the game they played, right? ;)

This time I know for sure I'm going to be ignoring everything shy of user feedback.

Exactly.

Then you realize you're in a repetitive glass bubble with little color where everyone and everything regenerates into eternity ad infinitum and nothing you do matters. It's pointless.

Despite this "large world" you have the same kinds of quests in the same areas over and over again with the same enemies over and over again. You can ZERO impact on the game world whatsoever.

I can honestly say I'd be hard pressed to find a game that took DE-incentivizing a player to an art form level more than this thing does, at least in the modern era. It's downright depressing and discouraging if you play it long enough.

Far Cry 2 easily stands as one of my biggest letdowns in the last several years in all gaming.
