The bad news: Best Buy is closing more U.S. stores. The good news: The company is opening 40 - 50 new stores...in China.

Back in January, Best Buy CEO Brian "Brooks and" Dunn confirmed reports that the electronics retailer would continue to shrink the footprint of its bricks-and-mortar stores. But a recent memo sent to employees says not to worry about those shuttered outlets because Best Buy is opening up new stores — in China.

How will that work? The Chinese know exactly how much BB marks their prices up because they MAKE all of the goods sold in BB.

ya, i dont get it, the chinesse are too smart to buy anything at best buy... thats not going to work well for bestbuy

The people working to produce things to be sold in a Best Buy are not the people shopping in a Best Buy.

I hope this means that I will finally see a Microcenter, and Frys in my town.

Yes it sux for the people employed at these places, but BB is what it is and it was doomed to close eventually.

judging by what ive heard from people who work/worked at BB, they may be better off if they lose their jobs.

So now we are even exporting low-paid sales jobs to china.
I wonder when the mail order companies will start moving over seas.

Their retarded pushiness of "service plans" coupled with idiots working there who can't get jobs anywhere else, are what has doomed the place. I know that doesn't describe every single employee, but there's enough of that ongoing to make a lasting impression on shoppers. Plus they wouldn't price match amazon for the longest time, or even their own website. They finally do now, but it's too little too late.

I still shop there, but it's no longer the first choice for me, more like the third.

Well, I thought they just pulled out of China. What the hell?

Anywho, unless BB changes their business model, it will definitely not work in China. Tons and tons of Chinese born people live here and having worked at BB, I know what works here on Americans will not work in China.

And I am sure this will be a 10 page thread, 8 of people bitching about BB hearsay. I have a friend who has a friend and his brother....

Give it a break guys. Some people here need to get laid.

And some people need to realize that the Internet is serius biznus.

I don't understand this...

Are they expecting the folks in China to spend a weeks salary on HDMI cables because they couldn't get enough in the US to do so?

Also, seriously agree about the Microcenter/Frys comments... I've never been in one, but sure wouldn't mind one opening up in my area!

The Chinese don't have to worry about that since if there is a problem with your product, you can just walk to your nearest Foxconn factory and have them fix it for you directly.

...... Some chinese guy sold his liver or something for an Ipad... .... ... ... .. ... yea.

This has the making of a great sitcom. An American BB store manager and his core management team move to China to oversee the roll out of their new stores. :)

No they pulled out of the UK Market. BB couldn't compete with existing stores that modeled around their culture, instead of forcing a big retailer with American thinking.

I wished they would bring back Outsourced. Loved that show on NBC.

I honestly don't think BB will do well, when you can buy a knock off of the same item across the street for a fraction of what I'll assume BB will charge. They will also have to compete with online retailers too.

I really hope they did their research well, because it'll be difficult to compete out there.

That world's largest mall in China failed, and the only place that is thriving is a Mc Donald's.

Oh woopdeedo! Yeah, that would make me feel great if I worked for Best Buy.
Good thing I don't.

Not to worry. BB will offer their employees a relocation offer and then they can send money home to their families in the USA. Hmm starting to sound like the USA is becoming more and more like a third would country. Soon the Chinese will have to shut their borders down to keep the boatloads of illegal Mexican immigrants out.:D

fixed it for you:eek:

Didn't bestbuy already learn from their UK stores they opened and quickly closed in less than a year because of their lack in revenue.

How will I play stump the best buy employee now?? Dammit, all my fun I have at brick and mortar stores is going away!
