Dell U3011 coming soon.

Well it finally arrived, since it's been in the back of a truck for over a week, at least the last 2 days here in central Canada, I unboxed it and I am letting it warm up before powering it. The way they ship them is with th DVI cable attached to the monitor port, which is fished through an opening in the stand, then the excess cable folded and in a plastic bag and resting on the top of the monitor base. The base is textured black plastic, and the VC end of the cable was hanging out of the bag, so the top of the base is marked up. First impressions- My original 3007WFP looked more impressive, and had far better packaging. I almost thought this was a returned item, but after close inspection, it appears new, it's an A05 built in Mexico. After it warms up, I'll test it for uneven backlight, tinting, and pixels, then update this post.

Edit: I lucked out and received a good one, quite surprised after some of the posts in this thread. There is no tinting gradient, I never noticed any backlight bleed during booting, etc, no pixel problems at all. There might be some slight uneveness to the coating and/or a very slight blue tint, but only under certain whites. You always forget how huge these things are until you sit in front of one. I wouldn't risk exchanging this monitor, so I will contact Dell next week and see if they will send me out a new base. A very happy camper with this one !

Hi guys.

I RMA'ed U2711 the other day and just ordered U3011. :-D
What is the latest revision for U3011 ? (For U2711, I had revision A08)

A05 Nov 2011 is what I have

But someone earlier mentioned he got an A06 (on the box)....but it says A05 stamped on the back of the monitor...haha

they make them in china now? i have an A05...both box say A05 and back of monitor A05...made in mexico

and i don't experience any "color" uniform issues...there is some slight back light uneven-ness...its nothing outrageous though...just a slight glow on all four corners...with the lower right side behind slightly brighter than the rest...

made in Mexico but the LCD panel is probably japanese (LG to be more specific) ;) absolutely nothing wrong with that,

A couple of Chinese Manufacture have shops in MX. I recall AUO and Hisign do.

Both my first and replacement are A05 from Dec 2011.

I have an A00 from Nov 2010.

Is there any good revision history documented anywhere for these?

I am considering color calibrating mine, but my revision suffers from the custom mode color issue. Before I call up Dell and have them replace it, I just want to make sure nothing got worse in later revisions.

I had a 3008 that had a power supply fail... I want to pick up another 30 inch but at 1500 with five year replacement i am hesitant, but going back to a 24inch monitor has been a pain. Does anyone know if it is worth it to get the five year warranty? I want to protect my self with this kind of investment since the 3008 cost me 667 a year for only three year not a very good ROI...

U3011 and U2711 use LG DIsplay's IPS panel. LG Display (and Samsung for that matter) is a Korean company. (Not Japanese).

if there is nothing wrong with your current setup, then don't play the monitor swap game...its not fun...lol

as far as i know, no theres nothing big in the later revisions...its basically alot of bug fixes...earlier revisions came with random color tinting issues....uneven backlight...and dead pixels of course...newer revisions basically fix this...or lessen the chances of you receiving a bad one

There's no confirmation. The only visible difference is the initial units had stickers saying Made in China. Now it says Assembled in Mexico but they are still made in China. None of the above problems are fixed, it's still a lottery. I buy panels every 3 months.

What the difference between this model and say the 3008wfp? I'm trying to weigh my options because I need either to go with my 3007wfp setup. This will probably be my main with the other four on the sides.

Here is a 20% off coupon for select desktop accessories from Dell. It may be good for a monitor, someone can try it, it says it must be used by the 31st, and monitors are on the link.

I am getting an RMA because a couple places the anti glare coating is showing spots. What are they sending out now?

Looks like the coupon code has been used (only restriction on monitors it is showing is u2410).

Back to salesrep lottery for a good deal...!

Thanks.

Interesting. They sent me a brand new A05 stepping assembled in Mexico. I thought I would get a refurb, but I was lucky and got a new one. The new one, is a little brighter on the right than the left, but its not a deal breaker. I will give it a little break in time.

I have already found one interesting thing I can not explain. With my old one, my graphics card temps would run up on a web page. As much as 10C, with the new monitor, so far, its been rock steady. Maybe it was developing other problems besides the anti glare coating. I hope this continues. The new one, is a little brighter on the right than the left, but its not a deal breaker. haha yeah, they probably ran out of refurbs so they just gave you a new one...it happened to me before and i was like, sweet!

and yes, sometimes the lighting can be uneven for these monitors...but if it doesn't bother you too much, keep it :)

I thought it was strange, I called them Saturday, and they said it would be shipped out on Monday. For some reason, it did not, and they kept calling me every day giving me an update. They came back on Monday and said it was delayed, and it would be shipped today. When I looked at the rma status, they canceled the first one. It was listed as a parts shipment. The second was just list as an exchange, and it was shipped overnight from Ohio. I did not know they had a warehouse there. Everything I have got from them come from CA.

Looking for advice and/or a reference to a friendly Dell sales rep willing to do a good deal on 3 Dell u3011 monitors. So far the best price I've been quoted is $1194 each, but with wanting/needing 3 of them I'm trying to get them for no more than $1049 (25% off).

Thanks!

Just got mine all hooked up. Went from 3 24in Asus to this.

What is everyone using for their settings?

Set mine on Adobe RGB and left it.

Any better settings?

Just picked one up off Dell SB for $1120 on Saturday. Should be delivered Thursday! :)

I didn't do anything special, just called their SB number and told them I was pricing their u3011 against HP's ZR30w. The sales rep immediately came back with a quote for $1120 + free shipping. I could have hassled some more and maybe got it for a little bit cheaper, but I was satisfied with that price. Good luck!

Received my BNIB U3011 from Ebay today. Rev A05.
Beautiful monitor!
1 stuck green pixel and a damaged stand.
Took 30 minutes on the phone after them initially refusing to honor the 1 stuck pixel warranty, and now I have to wait another 5 days for a replacement, which I'm assuming will be a refurb.

Curious how much it would cost to go through dell for a replacement. Was the ebay seller a certified dell partner/distributor?

Damaged stand

Green stuck pixel

And, blurry iPhone photo

treble318- After talking to the first Customer Service Rep, my phone cut out so I had to call back. I talked to a different person, and I told them I would like a replacement for my monitor due to the stuck pixel. He told me Dell only replaces them if they have more than 6 dead pixels. I was obviously annoyed because he kept telling me no when I asked for a replacement. I read him the warrarty from dell.com, and he went silent for a minute. He then transferred me to tech support who said they didn't know what the U3011 was, but they we're trying to be helpful.
I was then put on hold for 15 minutes while they "looked up the specs on my monitor", even though all I wanted was a replacement.
When they finally came back, they offered me a replacement that will take 2-5 business days.
There is 2 years and 11 months left on the warranty, so I figured it would be worth exchanging it due to the stuck pixel.
My last cheap monitor had a red stuck pixel that drove me nuts for the last 4 years.

I figure I'm probably going to get a refurb. I really wanted to keep this one because other than the damaged stand and pixel it looks incredible. Pics definitely don't do it justice.
And I got a great deal, so I couldn't say no.

I've got a Small Business Account (legitimate) and spoke to a random rep who was able to Sell me one for $1050 + Tax + CA Recycle fee = $1144 Shipped. PM me and I will give you his info, you can let him know I referred you. I don't think you'll have a problem.

Received my replacement monitor today. Rev A05 again, assembled in Mexico.
No scratched base this time, just 10 stuck pixels.
Time for replacement #2.

Just got my monitor monday, it is perfect.. That is after the poor customer service i got from dell's call center.

They're sending me another one. Hopefully the 3rd one is a good one.
I got frustrated with the call centers, so I emailed them, and it seems to be easier that way.

True, third time is a charm. Then again, I think we are all starting to find out where those returned Dell monitors with 1, 2 or 3 stuck pixels end up... as "referb" units sent out to customers, whom are complaining about 1, 2 or 3 stuck pixels.

Shellbunner,

I hope 3 times a charm, good luck with the monitor. Great looking!! Now only if they would come out quicker with the 120hz 30 inch monitor :)

I tried to have Dell send a new base out for mine, as our scratches are similar. They are caused form them not securing the DVI cable, while insisting to ship it attached to the monitors port. They refused to ship the base, and insisted on shipping a completely new monitor to bounce around in the truck for another 9 days as it travels to Canada. If the new monitor has even the slightest issue, I'll swap the bases, and return the replacement. If they feel I'm competent enough to put it on a Vesa mount, I can't see why thet wouldn't just ship the base ? BTW, the girl on the phone insisted that it would be an all new monitor, this is without me even asking
