Titanium HD - Still Poor Drivers?

Hi Folks,


I got a Titanium HD a few days ago and seem to have some very basic problems with audio under Windows. When I first boot sound never works; I have to try switching modes or changing settings until sound suddenly re-appears. Once sound is back it works reliably (Until I next reboot or shutdown). Also the front panel does not work in Windows.

Everything works perfectly with the integrated Fedora Linux driver whic makes me think this is a pure driver issue. Are Creative drivers still the POS they were back in Vista days?
Does anyone have any suggestions to fix the problems above?
 
I have the same card and don't have any issues.Whats your OS?I hope you did not use the drivers from the CD.

Hi Cukoodukoo,

I used the 1009 drivers from the site initially, it wont let me try the non beta driver even if I uninstall the other driver first which is a bit weird. I also tried the unoficial driver after this but it acts no differently. Am I right in thinking I dont need anyrthing but the driver (The rest is just superflous eye candy?).
 
Update:

A complete registry and driver cleanup in safe mode did reset detection of the card and allow me to install driver 1004 from the website. This driver is however worse.

With 1009 I can get sound on startup by going to Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers -> Properties -> Levels and changing the "Play Level". Wreaks of a driver/driver timing issue or trouble with particular reviosion of the card.

The change notes for 1009 suggest I'm not the only one:

•Minimized the issue of no audio playback on certain system configurations.
 
I have a Titanium HD since release date in two different systems. I've never had one issue in Windows 7 64.
 
You seem to be doing everything right.I have never touched the front panel..so i cant comment on it.
I have windows 7/64 installed...Just ran driver cleaner and installed the whole software from the site and everything went smooth.

Did you disable the onboard sound in BIOS?
Did you try installing the whole software/bloatware to see a difference?

Thanks for the reply.

Board has no onboard sound. I tried the full bloatware and it behaved no differently but the volume app included with the unofficial driver seemed to be quite good at getting the sound working after boot. I sent a support request on Thursday to Creative but have not received anything yet.

I suppose I willl have to wait for Creative to respond. It may have something to do with the Emu 0404 I had installed before this card but I did uninstall the card and drivers before installing the Titanium HD so hopefully Creative will have a better suggestion than a complete OS reinstall.

What poor drivers? There is nothing wrong with the official drivers.
There is no need be looking for alternative drivers.

1. Go to the official site http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=11870
and download the SBRL_PCDRV_LB_3_00_1004.exe
2. They will have an MD5 hash reading: F687CD792361D3FB559AE3911A29656F (These are the same working drivers I installed May 2011 on my Windows7 (64bit) machine)
3. Now the key points that I used.
Go into your Windows device manager, look for "Sound video, and game controllers", right click on it and uninstall the "Creative" sound item.
(Don't worry about any NVIDIA sound items if you have any)

Next go to Phxion.net and download Driver Sweeper

Install it, launch it and put a check mark in the Creative-Sound check box then click on the bottom "Analyse" tab and notice all the driver remnants that your Windows device manager uninstall had left behind. Now click on the "Clean" tab.

Reboot your computer and install that official Creative driver and enjoy.

Never had an issue with the official Creative drivers an 7 x64 SP1.
 
I've had no issues at all with my creative Titanium HD under windows 7 64 bit. This by far is the best creative card I've ever used in regards to drivers.
 
I sometimes have an issue with sound dropping out when switching between speakers and headphones or when just changing the modes until I reboot the computer. It appears to be a common issue. I wouldn't say that the drivers are completely issue free.

This sounds similar. I have to adjust the level to 100 (It always resets to 67) and change mode after boot and this always brings back sound. Also front panel does not work at all in Windows but is fine in Linux.

Supersnake, thanks for the suggestion I will give driver sweeper a try later today.

Bladestorn, I tried those drivers and they behaved no differently. I was hoping for a ground up driver effort but they it seems they are a modified Creative driver which seems to be concentrating on colouring the sound (I'm not interested in that at all).

BurntToast, I think your right; maybe I'm just delaying the inevitable.


Changing the subject a little has anyone used the Titanium HD with the Winamp ASIO output plugin? The plugin sees the driver but I get no sound.
 
The issues I had with the Titanium HD were IRQ related. The HD shared an IRQ with my second video card. If I moved it to a different slot it shared an IRQ with the SATA controller and caused issues. So far I just pulled one of my video cards and everything is fine. I'm not happy about it.
 
Does audio come out of the headphones jack in the back at the same time with the 7.1 RCA out?

Due to this limitation, I went with Dolby Digital Live right from the start & split the optical output to my surround sound speakers & gaming headset. That was the only way for me to circumvent this & I know its not a solution for audiophiles due to the compressed audio going through it. As far as my ears can tell, I don't hear any sound degradation. I'm quite satisfied with it & the customized drivers sound even better than the standard ones.
