Cooler Master Cosmos II

Is WorldExclusive a Coolermaster Rep? haha.

And after some long, hard looks at this case. I like it. But it wont get me away from my Black Pearl or 595 anytime soon.

Perception fools many, especially when cost is the main factor. I can't say myself that I will buy the case, but I was only pointing out the Cosmos II is a great case.
I remember when the 595 was listed for $400+, not to many people was fond of that case either, but you like it and that's what counts.

I bought it for like $160 shipped. Sold the Cod Black Ops that came with it for $40. So $120 shipped is what i paid for it. Now if it was $400... I probably would of looked elsewhere.

I remember that sale. The case was originally $399, then dropped to $299 then $160 and discontinued. The 695 was $500-550.
I wanted a 595 also for months before the sale, but I got an 800D just days before the sale went live.

595? Is that one of the custom manufactured cases?

Lian Li modded case by ABS. The ABS 595 model was a better X500. It was made from a shortened X2000.

Silver Cosmos II (Test Sample - So fit and finish is lacking)

Looks great in silver, and that will probably replace my Stacker.

Though I honestly wish they'd just refresh the Stacker. The Cosmos II looks to be an amazing case, but I personally have little use for a case as large as it is.

Either way, it's really nice to see CM back in the game, and nicer still having a higher-end option that isn't an angular black monolith.

notice the dunbells in the first pic of the silver version of the case lol

Lol im guessing... 3lbs? haha jk. And im liking the Silver. Also the ABS Canyon 595 is amazing for me at the moment. I Don't use any DVD drives and I never use a million HDD's. So its perfect. Ill take updated pictures sometime...

Maximum PC featured the Cosmos II in their Dream Machine in yellow. I wonder if Cooler Master is gonna offer the case in various colors. I'm definitely gonna grab this. $350 is a steep price but I think this case will be good to use for a long time. Now I just have to sell my haf-x, which I haven't even used yet.

So far it's black and silver only that I've heard. Plus for all of Maximum PC's dream machines they always have the cases custom painted and/or modded(like the year they put an LCD in the 5.25" drive bays).

I really like this cosmos II case but, its bigger then I'd prefer

I'm hoping CES will show new versions of cases below for the x79 chipset

CM comes out with a new CM Scout case
Lian Li comes out with a new style similar to 7FNWX or 8NWX

The thing is, I thought the CM Storm Trooper was heavy. Holy balls this thing is nuts.

My current Lian Li was feather light out of the box, probably 15lbs max. For a 24x24 case it's super light.
I can see how the Cosmos can be shockingly heavy.

Well, after being forced to ditch the HAF X, I'm looking for a new case.

At least, I'd have gone with Silverstone or Lian Li, but now even in their high range bracket, I'm finding many flaws with their designs:

1) The FT02/RV02/TJ11 cannot easily fit a H100 without some modding... also FT02/RV02 is quite small for my needs. There's also no guarantee that the Accelero Xtreme Plus that I got for the GTX 580 will work correctly in the 90 degree orientation.

2) Outside of the FT02/RV02... there is no normal oriented tower that is full sized. The TJ11 is just too costly and even that doesn't seem to take the H100.

3) The Lian-Li cases are well constructed but not really the quietest cases. Sure, the aluminum material is great but I'd much prefer a mix of steel (for beams, chasis) and aluminum because steel can take vibration much more and is more suitable for noise dampening. Lian-Li's door panels are just too thin and too light, making them prone to resonations.

It is also true that Lian-Li is a bit behind in their design; cable management could be much improved even in their top end cases. I also don't like how they keep on stacking 120mm and 140mm fans in areas like the front panel when they should look at what other companies are doing by using 200mm to 230mm fans that does a good job but at much lower speed.

After evaluating all of this, Cosmos II seems like the only choice. It is heavy, it has all the features, and it can take a H100 without issues. But it is more or less still a "gamer" case to me but at least it is not as ugly as some of the other offerings out there.

I think Lian-Li cases are too light... unless you're going to be moving that thing around a lot, the thinness and lightness of the material will make whatever that is inside the case that much louder compared to a heavier steel case.

Good observations. Most 200mm+ fans are swapped out by most people. If I can't swap out the 200mm fan for 2x120mm, it's a no buy for me. They seem to have a larger dead zone than smaller fans, so more room between the fan components is needed. The cable management on my Z70B has been refined to match the 800D, hopefully more of their cases adopt the same layout. The Lian Li's I've had have all been pretty quiet, the V1020R was the only case I felt was more audible than normal, but it was caused by a140mm fan at the top that was mounted in some kind of fan bracket.

I think Lian-Li cases are too light... unless you're going to be moving that thing around a lot, the thinness and lightness of the material will make whatever that is inside the case that much louder compared to a heavier steel case.

Maybe if you fill it up with a bunch of 2000rpm fans, but for the most part I've haven't noticed much of a difference between the 800D and Z70B.
Many of the Lian Li case have anti-vibration dampeners to cut down on noise.

But like I said earlier in the thread, the Cosmos II is a better case "out of the box."

While I still have no complaints about my Level 10 GT, I still miss my Cosmos S.

I have a feeling that CM will introduce a variant or two or possibly some custom colors. The Silver version looks great - not sure who that guy is and why he ended up with it, but I can't imagine them not selling it in that color - I liked the Cosmos S color scheme the best.

I wonder how hard it would be to get the side panels (professionally) painted?

I'd love to see this case in Different colors. Also an Exterior Color, and Interior color being different would be awesome. Two Tone. The Yellow one on MaximumPC was sick. I wish I had a store nearby that had this case on showcase....

I actually think it looks great.

Unfortunately I'm kind of blown away that according to the numbers on Tigerdirect it's actually several inches larger than my 800D in all dimensions. That's.... kind of mind boggling.

Is there any place with info on how much it weighs? I want to switch to a lighter weight case than I have now.

And honestly, with it being that heavy, I think the handles to even carry it are in the wrong place compared to the CM Storm Trooper, which is on the middle and one handle, perpendicular to the middle one, to hold it from.

What broke me on the weight topic was going to a lan party. I don't go often. I hadn't been to one in several years, but the opportunity came up and I needed a few days away from everything, so I went.

...

And I lugged my 800D along.

Never again.

I was very interested in this case for a new build but I only have 12.0 inches between my desk and the wall adjacent to it. The Cosmos is 13.5 inches wide and almost 28 inches tall so it wont fit next to my desk and wont fit under the desk-bummer. I custom built the walls so they really cant be moved easily. Who would have thought 12 inches weren't enough.

I really like this Cosmos II, debating on if I should sell my Admittingly Awesone Li X2000F for it. I do like the Cooler Master small touches, but I can't tell if I will like it better until I get my hands on with it...

I'm buying it as soon as its released :)

Just put in my pre-order at NewEgg! Looks like it will be released on the 23rd. If I get it by the 27th Ill throw my new Seasonic platinum 1000 in it and will post some pics.
