hp to sell touchpads on ebay (December 11th.)

yeah, they charged an extra $8-$12 to help pad things. Someone probably figured out that everyone would bitch but still bite, and they could pick up an extra $10 on every tablet sold during the sale.

Been looking at cases for this thing, it's such a crapshoot.

In reading amazon reviews, there are several issues people run into:

1. Full button functionality (bezel covered/buttons covered)
2. Charging with the touchstone through the case (touchstone is a wireless charging dock, kinda like sonicare)
3. Durability/quality of protection
4. Looks (the four elastic band models can look tacky)
5. Lightweight (I'd prefer not to constantly remove this thing to use it because the case is bulky)

For me, I really want something that'll protect the thing, not obscure buttons, maybe have a kickstand, not fall apart in 3 months, and "maybe" look like leather.

Torn on picking up a full body skin, or just a screen protector. Application of a full body seems like it'd be a PITA, and I dunno how it would hold up on the edges.

Also like the idea of a zipper case/carry case. Would be great if there was a 2 in 1, super lightweight case with a kickstand that slips inside a carry case.

The incipio looked popular, but now it's only in tan. Allows for a kickstand at different angles. It's $15, but guess it was as low as $9 shipped over thanksgiving. Don't think/know if they'll get more of these in. Only sales seem to be through their own website.

I've had the HP branded case for about 4 months now (I got one earlier from Office Depot) and it works pretty well. It isn't leather and isn't going to wow you, but it is nice to have in the case and I say it's pretty durable.

As far as me, I wasn't even planning on buying one during the sale. I just wanted to see the madness unfold. Which it did, and I was laughing, but the thrill got to me. I tried to buy one off eBay..terrible decision, their payment system was crap. Someone posted a link to the .uk server (at 6:19pm) and I nabbed a 16gb. Planning on giving to my family since they've been wanting a tablet/iPad/mobile thing that they can use around the house or on trips. Still debating on whether or not to put CM7 on it like I have on my 32gb. The apps on android far outweigh possible pain of troubleshooting this with my family.

I also got them the HP branded case for $19 shipped. Damn that $19 eBay shipping or else I could have just gotten the case with that money. Overall at $118 (didn't pay VAT/sales tax), and it will be there Thursday, it isn't a bad deal.

Funny thing is that I wanted the 16gb originally, but the Office Depot deal hit and I was super lucky to get one and was happy at that. It is an awesome little device (never owned an iPad or anything else besides a smart phone or laptop) I use it everyday to listen to mobile radio or surf the net or even browse some webpages from the couch. I never saw the point in a tablet but for $100-200 I can't see why you wouldnt want this if you could get one.

I bought this one Sunday night after I got confirmation on the TouchPad. I should have them both by Friday and if you want, I'll toss up a couple pictures and what I think about it.

Although $40 seems like a ripoff given what most have paid for these (deal was real sweet at 16gb for those that got in on those), the touchstone seems like a good unit. A stand that doubles as a charger, I really like the idea of that.

Got my 32GB today. According to the side of the box, it had version 3.0.2 installed although I wasn't able to tell since after pressing the power button it went straight to the USB symbol (had to use WebOSQuickInstall to update it).

It came in a regular ol' cardboard box with a nice "HP" logo stamped across it. Was fortunate when I came home and quickly hid it from view because it's a Christmas present for my dad. :D

The TouchPad looked and smelled new, even had the protective plastic like the retail version. Currently tweaking WebOS and installing Android CM7 Alpha 3.5 which came out a few days ago.

I got the 32gb as well and it also looks brand new although it only came in a box with a charger and a few booklets. I downloaded a;; the crap to install cm7 last night but was so tired I decided to wait so I didnt hose the thing.

Wheres the best tutorial for installing cm7 at anyways?

This looks good, but I've read a few people have had problems with the cover not staying flat over the screen when storing it. It'd be nice if you could easily add some tiny magnets to the case to help keep it closed.

I'm also looking at these 2:

Sweet. HP refunded me the $19 shipping cost. Did everyone else get a refund?

Got an e-mail that said they accidentally charged $10 more than they should have. Then went on to say that they gave me another $9 credit as an apology .

HP should continue producing these cheap Touchpads and take over the market from iPads.

I did as well!

For people looking for cases for these - check target clearance section. I got a nice leather ipad one for $15. Ipad ones fit pretty much dead on.

Note from Hewlett-Packard:

Thank you for your recent purchase of a refurbished HP TouchPad from HP's eBay store. Due to an error in the calculation of Shipping & Handling fees for the HP TouchPad, you were charged an additional $10 in shipping fees for your order. We have recognized this error and HP's eBay store will credit $10 to your PayPal account for each HP TouchPad you ordered. eBay and HP are also aware that in some instances, the shopping experience of HP's eBay store was impacted by the overwhelming response to the HP Touchpad deal. eBay and HP are committed to delivering the best shopping experience possible on eBay and are providing you with an additional $9 credit to your PayPal account for each of your HP Touchpad orders. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced when purchasing the HP Touchpad. Your combined credit of $19 will cover the standard shipping cost for each HP Touchpad you ordered. Please accept our sincerest apologies.

Its awesome that they did that, but the whining from people who agreed to pay the shipping so they could get a $99 touchpad was excessive. I'm sure those same people would have been on it like white on rice if the price was $118 shipped free.

I didn't really have a problem with the shipping charges since I think it is still an awesome deal (I really like the tablet, and WebOS is actually pretty sweet just lacking in apps), but it is very nice of them to give refunds.

consolation prize

So I just got a message from eBay and they gave me a $100 gift certificate due to any errors I had while buying my TouchPad. So basically, I paid $183 after tax/shipping for my 32gb, got $19 back and then the $100 gift certificate. How the hell do you beat that?
