hp to sell touchpads on ebay (December 11th.)

Wow.. I need to start scooping these up, hire a guido to collect payments, and rent them out. lol

What is the latest word on porting to Android?

The CM team is on a Alpha 3 build. I am running it right now and it is quite nice. Already prefer it over WebOS. There is still a lot of ways to go before its a real release candidate though.

Every douchbag troll reseller is gonna have bid scripts waiting to snipe these the moment they go live on EBay... so good luck to all the common folk who just wanna get a decent deal.

I predict a slew of refurb Touchpads, @ substantial markup, on EBay, Craigslist, and [H] within a few days after the sale.

I have to agree with you on this. If I can't get one at HP prices then no one will get my money. I'll just get something else worth my while.

I don't really need one since i'm having a ball with my Asus TF but it would be nice to get one just to play around with.

I'll try for one but won't have hurt feelings if I don't

Good Luck to those trying.

in for 4 ( two ebay/paypal accounts) then reselling them for a profit and becoming a total douchebag like the majority of slickdeal members
Good day gentlemen!! :mad::rolleyes:
Heheh, living up to your nick one post at a time. I kid I kid.:D

This sounds interesting. If I can revert back to stock without an issue, the wife's potential TouchPad might get some CM Alpha loving before she gets her hands on it.

This.. People have been trying to sell the 16gb ones for 175 since the last sale.. Well news flash dumb ass's its not good enough to be worth that. The fire at 200 is a better buy even as a tablet..

So if I can get one of these for 100 then great.. Would even pay like 120 afterwards if I missed it, but there is no fucking way I am paying 175% of the manufacturers value of them.

CM7 installs as a dual boot option. It does not touch the WebOS partition. You can also revert back to just WebOS if you decide to remove CM7.

Bigger screen, faster processor, double the RAM and flash memory, 768 horizontal resolution instead of 600, and maybe some other things I missed. How do you conclude that the Touchpad is inferior at $175? I'd say it's a better value even at $250 (same price as NookTab)

Though I do agree that it's hard to pay $175 for it when you know the person who bought it only has it for the sake of making a profit and only paid $100.

No long term support from manufacturer, less features, no updates, have to void warranty to make decent.. Lets see is there more really needed?

So if you end up buying one of these and it's DOA, are you SOL?

No.... if its DOA then if nothing else your buying from ebay & using paypal.. But it should have atleast a 30 day warranty from HP.. Most likely a 90 day..

Wow you people, get with it, just read the OP, it clearly says 90 day warranty.

I was close enough without having to do something silly like read the OP.. I mean seriously what it have to do with the interwebz anyway.

I don't know what less features it lacks compared to all the other tablets out there. Seems like a very vague statement preware is actually not voiding the warranty. And there have been 2 (soon to be 3) official webOs updates. Honestly for 99 or 149 you won't find anything better out there.

I agree that at 99 or 149 for the larger there is nothing better out there. But the scalper price of 175+ for the 16GB on the other hand..

Why not? Kindle Fire only has 6GB of useable space with no external card slot.

I personally think that $200 for the 16GB is a steal. If HP firesold the 16GB at that price it would have still sold out just as quick. It's just that HP sold it at $99 and it's being resold at at almost 100% markup by others that's making people balk at the $200 price point.

The touchpad should have been before the firesale.. Then it would have actually sold.. But bottom line with it is its been EOL'd so ultimately its value is limited. It will not be receiving long term updates as the development into webOS has all but stopped where as the fire/nook or any other android device will have a longer lifespan..

The content available for the fire alone makes it worth its money. Hence its sales numbers for the 200 dollar price.. Last I checked it's sales were 2nd to only the iPad and thats without going on a firesale. Estimates for the fire are putting sales at about 4 million for 6 weeks. The touchpad on the other hand only had a total stock of 270k units..

I tend to think the opposite. That's why I actually bought mine. Even if webos gets discontinued, there is always cm7 or cm9. Or even windows 8. I read over at anandtech when they demoed windows 8 for arm. One demo used the exact hardware as touchpad (granted there might be no legit way of getting a touchpad with windows 8, but I am sure someone out there will figure out a way). However with that being said, in the months I've had mine, I've really grown to like webos. I really hope somehow, someway hp does something with it to keep it going.

At this point I think the best thing that could be done for webOS is it signed off & made open source. Wont happen, but then the good things about it could eventually be integrated into android or whatever the next big thing is..

And I never said that the TP was junk.. I just wouldnt pay scalper prices for it.. Also of note.. I am betting that the Ebay server crash when these go on sale.. This is all over the interwebz so i am anticipating that they are sold out seconds after they go up..

given that it isn't a real auction, I don't think you'll be able to use a sniping tool. Not to say you couldn't write a script for it, but there also isn't a live page for them yet. I'm guessing a number of folks will still have to click through to get them. Plus, this isn't a doorbuster, there might be ALOT of them for sale. IE, they'll go in minutes on a bogged down website that makes 56k look fast. People close to the server and with killer connections (and a bit of dumb luck) will end up snagging them.

A crew member found one of these hp tablets on our aircraft tonight, first I've seen one as usually people leave ipads kindles or cell phones in their seat pockets because they are stupid :p. Anyway, the copilot thought it was worth a lot, then I told him its the hp one and its discontinued and sells for $99 new...he changed his mind quick about its value lol.

Oh, and I hope hp goes out of business quick, how they treat their employees and how poor their products are, I'll never buy something from hp again.

first they sell the new ones for $99, then they sell out and say they are getting more back in a month, then they say they are sold out for good, then they sell them to employees only, now they sell refirb ones on ebay for what the new ones cost. shady companies like this need to go out of business.

I personally think they priced them too low initially, should have been $149 and $199, but I am not going to complain. We got our 7 units. (5 16GB and 2 32GB)

?
Umm yeah that is not going to happen any time soon, and its funny how you seem to care about people but then want 300000+ jobs to be lost :/

So is it going to be SuNday or Monday OP? Your kinda wishy washy on when this sale actually happens.

Engadget, Techspot, ZDNet, PCMag & countless other online entities all report its going to be Sunday..

sunday is employee day. Monday is the sale to the public. yep Monday they are guaranteeing those 2 units will be put up for auction.

THe articles I have read say the employee head start is only going to be a few minutes, not a whole day.

article said:
"In an effort to give HP employees first chance at a very limited supply of refurbished TouchPads, there will be a short delay between when the product is posted live for sale on eBay and when the general public is notified of the sale," according to the letter, posted by TechCrunch.

The delay will only be a few minutes, so there should be an opportunity for the public to get a crack at $99 (16GB) and $149 (32GB) TouchPads.

Wait why am I telling people this. I should let people think it's monday so I actually have a chance to get one lol...

Hopefully you are seriously joking, that's a SD'er move if there ever was one hehe. :p

Obviously it's a joke, not gonna keep my fellow [H]'ers out of the loop in the absurdly rare instance i see something that everyone else hasn't already.

i really dont see how ebay or hp will be able to limit the sunday sale to -just- hp employees.

i think sunday was suppose to be secret. an email sent internally to hp employees, which got leaked.

so i would say forget about monday b/c by then then might be all sold out.

edit: wow! hp just announced webos is going open source http://www.precentral.net/hp-open-source-webos-no-hardware-plans-or-partners-announced
