Following its iPhone offer, Box hands out LG Android users 50GB free cloud storage.

Box today announced users of LG Android handsets could get 50GB free cloud storage.

The public cloud firm already runs the offer for iPhone, iPad and iPod users – which it launched back in October – but this is the first deal available to users of the Google mobile operating system.

“We want to make it incredibly easy for you to share, manage and access important content from absolutely anywhere,” wrote Michael Smith, a member of the mobile development team, on the Box blog.

“To ensure that storage limitations never get in the way of your sharing, we’re excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with LG to offer free 50GB Box Personal accounts on all LG phones and tablets running Android OS 2.1 and above.”

Current Box users will just have to login to get the storage upgrade, but new customers will need to download the Box app to get their hands of the 50GB.

There is a deadline to sign up for the deal though, so Smith warned customers to login before 31 March 2012 to claim the storage.

Mark Saldana, community manager at Box, also promised deals for other Android users weren’t far away.

“If we aren't running any promotions for your device, don't fret – we'll have more in the near future,” he wrote on his own blog.

Saldana also warned customers yet to take advantage of the iOS deal that sign up closes this week so “claim your free space before it's too late.”

Ok, so I signed up on my HTC Inspire using the app and it still shows only 5gb of space. does it automatically upgrade to 50 or does it take some time?

This is for users of LG android phones. If you sign in on a LG droid with your credentials using the box app you should be able to score 50GB.

This worked for me using my LG optimus V.

Anyone else unable to upload "large" as in 50MB or so files to their 50GB Box.net acc? It says that I need to upgrade in order to do that.

Strange.. their website indicates 25MB for the 5GB account, so it's almost like you got the 50GB storage upgrade but have to live with the upload limit of the 5GB account?

This is correct. I have this same type of account from when Box did this promotion for HP TouchPads. It has 50GB of total storage space, but a 25MB file size limit.
