Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Announced for release on 11/11/11.

It's not that we want 2+ rings to exploit shit, it's that only being able to wear one doesn't make any sense.

Well what do you plan on putting on those rings? Nothing? As I detailed earlier, with existing equipment slots, you can cap out your armor rating, cap out your magic resistance, and two-shot dragons on Master difficulty.

I guess it might be useful for people who absolutely do not want to do enchanting and are only going to be wearing the lesser rings the game drops.

anyone else get weird texture corruption on certain obejcts every once in awhile?...2 or 3 times I've seen trees and certain characters turn into a weird shade of purple...I have to exit to the Main Menu and restart and the corruption disappears

A good enchanter only needs one ring.
Two rings is definitely overpowered. "Unlimited" rings and you can turn your character into a god.

Infinite mana in all schools of magic, 999 (maximum) damage on all weapon types.
If you think you need more than 1 ring then you clearly haven't reached your character's full potential.

I'm pretty sure in the past games you could wear two.

There are a lot of little things like that in the game that annoy me. Not a game breaker just another one of those things that makes you think what the hell were they thinking. Like the large address aware issue. This is something that has been fixed by the mod community for several games now and yet they still can't do it themselves.

So you should only have 1 ring because the current game is balanced around it? Just make the ring enchants half as powerful and allow 2 rings.

People aren't saying they want more than 1 ring for more power or anything. Character power / balance aside, it's just a strange design decision from the get go. I was a little confused about it at first myself when I kept trying to equip a second ring.

It's not strange based on how powerful the rings can get.
Sure, if you loot normal rings from enemies, you should be able to wear 2 (or more). But then once you learn enchanting, anything more than 1 ring is overpowered.

If you use this mod to wear multiple rings then you'll probably have to raise the difficulty, too.

The point is ... from the very beginning they should have just had 2 rings and cut the enchantment power in half if you're that concerned about character power.

Decisions like allowing 2 rings and the power of the enchants on the rings are independent of each other.

Mods that break character power / balance are completely up to the player. I honestly don't care if someone mods in 50000 rings. Their game doesn't affect mine.

I'd just make additional rings lower weapon handling by 20%
Try wielding a greatsword effectively wearing 8 rings.

It was probably partly because of simplicity. Oblivion allowed 2 rings and switching always messy. The same way switching weapons in Skyrim is weird (left-click for right hand) imagine having Favourites to switch rings.

It sounds like enchanting are both *required* in the game ( and smithing, if you wear armor), if you are to become a god and max out your resistances at 100 skill points. But if you're not, does that mean that you will be very weak by comparison to someone who is using enchanting? Does that make the game unbalanced?

Oh well, the most correct statement here is: how you play your game does not affect how I play my game, so do what you want.

I do have more of an issue with the left click for the right weapon than anything.

I think the game is fairly balanced by just playing it. I never care to power level or anything, I just play the game and level up naturally but I noticed just using stock armor and weapons on default difficulty the game is actually fairly easy.

Yeah honestly the powergaming stuff is fun to do but it makes the game pretty much effortless even on Master.

The game is mostly balanced if you avoid the crafting skill synergy.

But in the end this is a single player game, and the only balance is what you make for yourself. If something is too powerful, you can forgo abusing it without having to worry about the other players who might not feel the same.

I just beat the main quest line and a couple other quest lines on my powergaming heavy armor sword & board character and frankly it sapped a lot of the fun out of it. I'll do another playthrough soon with a more balanced character and probably have a hell of a lot more fun.

I think I know why my Redguard dual wielder was getting smacked around in my previous 20 hour play (which is now corrupted). I wasn't enchanting my stuff, I never used scrolls nor used any spells. I was also chugging health potions instead of making my own.

What scrolls/spells should even melee and fighter types invest in? Also, is dual wielding only worth it after you get to higher levels? I was DW from fairly early on and I took a LOT of damage. My last question is, how much money should I be spending at trainers?

I've been in a Nord rogue in every TES game since Daggerfall (not counting the spinoffs like Darkspire or Redguard), so I'm sticking it out.

This is the first time Ive ever spent more than an hour on an elders scrolls game. Last night I decided I was going to work on some skills (smithing and enchanting). I was a level 17 at the start of the night. Before this I had just been playing the game and questing and didnt understand the complaints about leveling being to easy, etc. I think I crafted like 30 or 40 steel / iron daggers and enchanted 20-30 of them. My character was a level 21 when I finish and my enchanting skills went from 30 something to 60 something and pretty much the same for smithing. It would have taken me several days to go from level 17 to 21 by just questing. My character is a dark elf and I have been focusing on the destruction school thingy. I have killed 13 or 14 dragons and they are a joke...

That sounds like enchanting is the balance issue, not the rings. You shouldn't be able to enchant your way to god-status. Wouldn't it make more sense to limit how much magic you can stuff on a tiny ring, rather than limit how many rings I can wear on my 10 fingers?

It's probably better with just one powerful ring, since it gives you more incentive to level enchanting. Each time you upgrade your perks (or get better enchants) you'd have to track down 10 more rings, and individually enchant each of them with a "weak" enchantment. With one ring you can just perform a single enchant and be done with it, less clutter involved too. Example: 1 ring with +50 damage enchantment vs 10 rings with +5 damage enchantment. Same effect, more effort.

If you choose to wear more than 1 ring with the mod then you need to manually limit the strength of your enchants on each one. No matter how hard you try to control it, you're going to end up fucking up the skill curve of the game. Especially if you wear 10 rings.

Also, you can only fit two enchantments on one ring, just like every other item, so it's not any more overpowered than enchanting any other items you wear. No matter how weak your 2+ rings are, you're already cheating since you're receiving more individual enchants then the game allows you. Normally you need the level 100 Enchanting perk to get 2 enchants on one ring; if you wear 2 rings without the perk, it's cheating. If you wear 3 or more rings (with the perk) you're still cheating. Bottom line.

I'll get this mod, and i'll wear 2, because that just feels right. And it's not because i want to be overpowered, it's because i like the variety it can bring. More gear slots is always better. But i also have installed every possible mod i can find to make this easy-ass game harder, and i never take companions.

You're using a cheat that allows you to wear 2 rings, then you complain about the difficulty.

just finished exploring a massive Dwemer ruin called Alftand...literally took me a few hours just to explore and clear out that 1 ruin...don't know if it's part of a quest or not but it was a very interesting place

at the end of the level there was a device which said 'Activate Dwarven Mechanism' but I wasn't able to find anything to activate it...I'm assuming Alftand is part of a quest later on

Sounds like a game balance issue, yet again. It's also a continuity issue.

I'm playing as a milk drinker.

Hmm my first game playing as a milk drinker... what do you think, two-handed hammer or axe? I'm using an axe with a sword as a back up simply because I like the impaling animation. (that and they don't have the skyforge hammer in stock)

The sword is the fastest and lightest and arguably has the best perks. Bleeding on an axe is ok i guess. Hammer perk sounds really good though, ignores armor. Very good vs tough opponents, probably works vs constructs. Which one to pick???

yep, quest related. a guy in the far north gives quest. have fun finding him.

p.s. the quest has a very nice reward.

Honestly I'd like to wear more than one ring so I can diversify my enchants rather than exploit the system and make myself have 1000% damage or ridiculous alchemy skill or some shit. I'd like to have some health regen, magicka regen, and maybe some magic resistance as well. Since you are limited as to what enchants you can do to what piece of clothing, though, it'd be nice to have a bit more flexibility.

I'm about at level 40 now and the game feels unbalanced in such a way that most of the enemies you can kill in a few hits, whereas some of them will randomly be able to own you in like 2-3 hits as well. Kind of strange because you never really know when that's going to be, too. Sometimes some random mage will start taking off 1/3 of my HP in one hit, and sometimes they do hardly anything.

I walk around in robes and a pair of Ice Wolves can be life or death if they catch me unaware. The only mobs I don't fear are mudcrabs and dragons. lol

The thing I don't like about enchanting is that I can generally buy stuff from mercheants that is better than I can make, and that won't change until I get the dual enchantment perk.

I did notice that... and commented earlier that right now I can kill a giant with a single sneak attack yet some bandits are considerably stronger. Feels wonky.

If I get in a fight and see the name Electromancer pop up, I pretty much just reload and rethink my strategy.

I've started to run into that even at level 15. Did one of those "clear out the bandit hideout" quests, and most of the bandits were going down to a single fireball spell, but then the boss was one-hit killing me with a 2-handed sword and absorbing everything I could throw at him.

Finally got Destruction 100 just now!
Too bad the max level spells are terrible. :(

Firebolt is still the most useful spell I have. Stun lock + dual firebolt + repeat.

Runes/AOE used in conjunction with Throw Voice is also a lot of fun.

... That's depressing news. How bad? I was planning my next play though to be as a mage, I am going to really miss custom spells.

there is a quest to get the master level spells. Not sure about them.... as I have not gotten them yet.

Pretty useless, they have a 3-5 second ramp-up time which can be interrupted by enemies.
I think just using the Expert level spells is easier and probably does more damage since they cast instantly.

Firebolt is replaced by Fireball and Incinerate, both of which do way more damage (Fireball does AoE).

I think I will try a conjuration and illusion focused mage build as opposed to the more typical destruction one. It seems like if you combine sneak + illusion, that could be quite fun.
