do you know if I can run a corsair H100 on top to an Arc Midi or the Define R3 & the XL?

Been thinking of getting a new case for my new 2500k build.

Both Arc cases will fit an H100 no problem. You can do push pull in an arc midi
(Saw a video with a 60mm rad + fans in the top, that's 85mm's thick off the top with 2 fans, an H100 is only 25mm thick so with 4 fans it would be 10mm thinner...)

I just got a new setup that involves an Arc mini + H100..... and I'm damn excited cause I got some nice parts.... :D

I don't think the define cases would fit an H100. I could be wrong... I haven't seen it and I haven't messed with either of the define chassis...

Please update us on that. I was thinking about the H100 but I thought I was going to have issues so I got an H60

Ok got the case in last night which was the final piece,
Built it, man the H100 went in that Arc Mini like with the swiftness! I will work on some pics to show, but yea easy and straight forward. I am really happy with how this came out. I have some adjusting to do, and some wires to tidy up... but yea :D

Oh no! Yea it fits in there with no problem. It actually works better imo because H60's/H80's with push-pull fans might block the side panel fan if you use a 140mm. I grabbed the 140mm that was on the top and that's what I am using on the door panel right now.

Very nice Krame!!! :D

Do you have filters on those front fans? Doesn't look like it...

I've been experimenting with various fans on the R3 case. If you're going to go Noctua, get a few NF-P12's for sure. This is Noctua's high-pressure 120mm offering, and trust me, this case needs it.

I tried a NF-S12B FLX as a rear exhaust, and it was absolutely terrible. It was far too loud to start with, and dialing it down to an acceptable volume basically resulted in almost no airflow at all. The NF-S12B FLX is a very low-pressure fan, and can't handle the fan grills or fan filters on the R3.

The only place you'll be able to use NF-S12B FLX's is as blowhole fans on the top of the case, dialed down to VERY low speed.

recently completed my Core 1000 build, still working on the cable management though

There's only so much cable management you can perform in that case, she looks gorgeous!

hey dude, i love what you've done w/ this case so far! just a few questions...

1) was it tough getting everything installed? i mean it's a pretty small case but i see you removed that "vertical hard drive mounting bracket" and shoved them into where the ODD goes...

2) what are your temps like w/ the OC'd CPU and GPU? and what is the CPU heatsink you're using?

thanks :D :D :D

Thanx for nice comments guys.

Regarding your questions:

Installation wasnt very complicated, few notes: its much easier to install mobo before u install rear fan, and u need to install cpu heatsink if it has a backplate - before u install mobo cause there is no cut out in a mobo tray. Aanother thing - you will need to purchase second 5 1/4" to 3 1/2" adapter separately cause the case comes with 1 only.

regarding temps - i was kinda scared of poor airflow when i was ordering this case but in reality with hardware i got in there single 120mm intake and single 92mm exhaust is more than enough - temps are the same with side panel or without - cpu never reaches 70*C under prime and gpu temperature hovers around 80*C while playing BF3.
The cpu is i3 550 running at 4.33ghz and the GPU is a reference 6950 unlocked @930/1400Mhz
Cpu heatsink is a Cooler master Geminii S. its a very good cooler btw i highly recommend it.

ok, just finished redoing my water loop, i had cut one hose too long and my pump/res won't fit properly. so, here we go:

Great builds guys. This makes me want to try a custom loop on my fractal define mini.

Your window looks so clean krame. Did you do it yourself?

I did the front and top filter removal mod as well- made me fall in love again with the case for now. Was thinking of going ITX but I would lose so much...

It looks much better in real life but i suck at taking pictures :)

Fractal Design Define Mini with the front drive bays removed. For anyone interested, the bottom drive bay is riveted in. Dremelling out the rivet results in a nice clean hole for you to screw it back in (if you have self-tapping screws). Or, you can do what I did, and screw a SSD in there instead. If you're the kind that cares about cables and appearances, be certain to get a modular PSU - There is NOT a lot of room behind the motherboard, just enough to hide the 24-pin cable. Certainly not enough to hide a molex connector (unless it's flattened). Oh, and mine has a black USB3.0 motherboard header, not the blue one that earlier editions had. Looks like Fractal Design listens to the reviewers!

This seems like the right thread to ask. I've just ordered the R3 in black and Corsair H80. I was going to get the H60 but for only $9 more it was an easy upgrade, and it might even be quieter.

Will this fit in the case? Any recommendation on fans - i.e. are the included fans better than the one that comes with the R3? My main goal is a totally silent overclocked pc.

Those 120mm fans from fractal, are they quiet? And what kind of bearing?

Also, if you have a semi modular PSU (HX series from corsair), can easily fit a 140mm on the bottom of the Arc Midi or is it best to go with 120mm?

H80 should be fine

I don't like the fractal fans that much. Try some gentle typhoons, they're great for that purpose. I don't have an h80 so I don't know how the fans are, but the fans on a corsair heatsink (a70) I have are rather loud and don't push a lot of air

They arenot that quiet. They have a lot of motor noise, but they do wear in and get quieter. Pretty sure they're Sleeve bearing.

140 should fit no problem, the pictures in Krame's post are of the arc midi, and a semi-modular psu. Looks like more than enough room for a 140

It will fit, Im using it right now. The fans that the H80 comes with, are loud. I replaced them with http://www.frozencpu.com/products/1...ster_Bearing_Fan_UCTB12_.html?tl=g36c435s1098

I have the arc midi with an hx850. I had to push the fan over a little due to the length of the PSU, but you can still get one in there. I just used some double sided tape to secure the ran.

Does anyone know if the arctic cooling xtreme fits in the R3?

I am seriously thinking about picking up a Define Mini to replace the Silverstone SG02 case that my HTPC is residing in, particularly because I have all my media on my HTPC itself rather than on a server on my network. I kinda want to make the HTPC the file server. When hard drive prices go down, load it up with 2 or 3 TB drives... having 6 (8 if you use 5.25" to 3.5" bay adapters) hard drive bays gives a lot of room for that!

Go for it. The sound deadening material works ridiculously well on the Define mini. It's great for an HTPC, assuming you have the room for it. I highly recommend a modular power supply with a custom cabling solution for the hard drives. The Define's weak point is the lack of space behind the mobo to hide all those extra cables.

Well the Arctic Cooling Extreme does fit in the R3, but just barely :) Their is about 2mm clearance left from the drive cage to the back of the card. And you have to angle the card when putting it in, it will not go straight in. So yes it does fit but ever soooo close...

hey badmau5,

can you supply us w/ details about your custom psu/ODD bay cover as well as the clear side panel? such as where did you get them? did you make them yourself? as i think i mentioned before when you first posted up this build, i'm SOOO in love w/ your build and it has inspired me the put together something similar (i7-2600k, asus maximus iv gene-z, evga gtx 580, 2x4gb corsair dominator gt, corsair ax650, noctua nh-c14, and of course fractal design core 1000).

thanks! :D:D:D
