Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Announced for release on 11/11/11.

Though once you get past level 35, you'll find out that it's sort of necessary. melee weapon types have much higher damage output than the destruction mage. Enemies will have bloated hitpoints and will shrug off those spells pretty well.

though there is an improved destruction mod that fixes that issue.

Well guys, I'm going away for the rest of the week. It's a good thing. My body is telling me that I need a break from this game. Staying up too late trying to "just do one more thing".

Possible. I don't really use magic in skyrim yet. I have not completed my first play though and I am going down the one handed, heavy armor, nord brute/viking ish character. I know not vary original but I am finding it fun. So the only magic I really use is restoration to save a few potions, my basic fire attack dose next to no damage and has been near useless since level 10.

If you're having trouble as a Mage, what kind of spells are you using?
You get new spells every 20 (or so) ranks in Destruction. If you stack % reduction you shouldn't have mana issues with the higher level spells, maybe even 0 mana cost if you're smart.

Having infinite mana in Destruction seems over-powered but at high levels, it's a necessity.

My problem with trying to go mage with my current character is my spells. I have just the most basic destruction spells, my damage output is still only around 11 pts a second. And having never looked into upper level spells I just assumed that infinite mana from reduction bonuses would make the game broken. I will take this into consideration my next play though.

My problem is that I'm Lvl 52 with 100 in Archery and 99 in Sneak, so I want to level some new skills. However, every enemy I go up against is somewhat scaled to my abilities :p I usually have to start with spells and finish with the bow.

Hmm..so I found a mod that would set encgantig/smithing/alchemy at 100.

Im debating tether to use it or not. On the one hand, I don't really like cheating, on the other, making daggers, finding soul gems, and enchanting them is really tedious grinding, and I only get to play for maybe 2 hours a night.

I can't decide. Maybe Ill just do the smithing/enchanting, and not the alchemy. I have fun trying different ingredients with each other to see what happens. I don't have fun running all over skyrim buying iron ingots.

Don't bother. The grinding can be somewhat tedious but honestly it's not that hard to just do it legitimately and it's really not that bad.

What's the best way to level alchemy? And what's the best way to discover new potions? I don't want to waste high-value ingredients by just tossing them together and hoping I get something.

You can get the guide book and look it up, or look it up online. Since you can mix random ingredients you just need to know that the end result will be worth the effort. As for a good potion to level with, I suggest mixing a giants toe with wheat. It makes a high value potion, and its resale can help fuel the acquisition of more ingredients.

When levelling Alchemy I always make my potions in about this order:

- Slow or Invisibility
- Damage _____ Regen
- Fortify Health
- Fortify _______
- Ravage ______ potions are always the least valuable and last to be made

This is with no perks. Crafting based solely on highest value.

I was just wondering how you would do it without a guide. I guess the answer is to randomly combine stuff and risk wasting it.

So your Destruction spells are free now, right?
Yup.
It requires 4 enchantments of 25% minimum.
I think I can get them up to 33% (3 enchantments) if I use my potions correctly.

I still need to reach 100 Enchanting for the "Two enchantments per item" perk, not sure how that works yet.

You eat the ingredient to find out a single effect... the rest you find out as you mix. Or you can use your perks so that when you eat the ingredients you find out more than one effect. IE - spend one point and you find out the first two effects, two points for the first three, and three points to find out all effects when you eat the ingredients.

I have a few questions about Enchanting items.

First, when you disenchant an item, the value of the enchantments is the same regardless of skill? Seems to be about 50% of what the items had when you looted them.

When you enchant armor, the amount of the enchantment is based on perks and quality of soul gem, right?

The part that is most confusing is enchanting weapons. When you choose the enchantment, regardless of how high the damage is (and lower amount of charges) it doesn't matter what Soul Gem I use. So what point does Soul Gems play in enchanting weapons if I can use even petty to enchant everything? I was guessing that when you level up enchanting, you can have the higher value enchantments with higher charges, then at that point you will be required to use higher soul gems on weapons, right?

Ah, right...those perks. I just haven't put that many into it trying to level up Smithing and Enchanting.

The enchantment value will increase with perks and your enchantment level.
Once you have an enchantment there is no "improved" version; they're all the same. If the item you disenchanted had a higher value, it just means the original enchantment was stronger than what YOU are capable of (so far).

Always use the highest value.
A bigger soul gem will give you more charges. Charges are easily replenished using Petty/Lesser/Common soul gems, so it's not a big deal.

lol i had the same problem. make sure to check the misc quest on the left side of the screen before checking the actual quests on the ride side.

but I mean once I complete the Misc. quest it disappears from my journal while other completed quests remain shaded on the bottom of the list...I want to view a list of all my completed quests (including Misc. ones)

Turn off xbox 360 controler in menu (its on by default X)
turn it off [ ]

eh, the interface sucks on many levels. they stupided it for the consoles. dumbed down would be a complement. Hope someone can mod it before I finish all the main quests

Almost every time I fast travel to a city I get a "random" dragon attack so I made this:

No Photoshop on this PC so whatever... MS Paint LOL.

i dont get it whats that bottom pic of and from what game lol. and they are random to me like totaly random for me

One thing I dislike is that if you fill up all your other soul gems and you use a weapon that captures souls, it will do shit like fill a grand gem with a petty soul. I wish it would just match the soul to the type and not fill it if it's a lower quality.

By the way for those wondering, the magic cost reduction perks and magic reduction cost enchants are multiplicative and not additive.

So if you have 50% casting cost perk and 50% casting cost from enchants, it will still cost mp to cast at 25% the original cost.

I thought this might be a way to get free casting for 4 schools of magic :p

If you're trying to reach 0 mana cost (any school of magic) then the perks are useless.
Multiplying by a percentage will never put you to 0, but infinitely approaching 0. The only way to do it is with enchantments and you will still need the same amount of them.

In other words, once you reach 0 mana cost (via item enchantments) the perks no long serve a purpose.

So what's the point of the slider you move when you enchant a weapon? How does the amount of charges on that play into effect, if the charge amount comes from the Soul Gem?

The initial soul gem used for enchanting determines the size of the magic power available to the weapon.
Thats so you can for example have a weapon that does 40 attacks at 30 damage or 20 attacks at 60 damage.

I swear those Cliff Racer's would follow you forever. I'm pretty sure when I played through Morrowind I had a mod that made them all passive.
