Asus VG278H is coming soon!!!!

if i get this LCD, could i sell the 3d kit for it to cover some of the cost. I mean is there even a market for it?

The "3D Kit" is the glasses and since they only work with this monitor, you would need to sell them to someone else with the same screen.

My guess is you could ebay them for maybe $100 ish.

Actually, the new glasses work with any previous 3D-Vision monitor.

Gamers don't turn on vsync as it introduces massive amounts of input lag, even at 120hz.

You still get tearing on a 120hz monitor but it's so minimal that you won't mind or notice it unless you're really really looking for it, use dxtory to limit your framerate universally to something like 117, make sure you never go over 120 and you're good to go.
This is also a good idea as some games stupidly cap their framerate at 120fps, 120fps+120hz + no vsync = horrific tearing. Not as bad as 60hz/60fps/no vsync but it's pretty bad.

I use vsync, always have. Never experienced any input lag. I can't stand tearing...I don't care how minimal. lol

I was about to pull the trigger today at amazon but it is sold out now. I always have vsync off because the input lag is terrible on most games.

Eye candy | VSync | no lag - Pick two.

If you run a CRT at 110-120Hz, VSync on, triple buffering on, and can maintain a minimum framerate above your refresh rate, then input lag will be below the threshold of human detection. If you run a LCD at 60Hz, VSync on, triple buffering off, and minimum framerates drop below refresh rate then input lag will be significant. There are too many factors to make a blanket statement about input lag and VSync.

If you have a high refresh rate monitor with a low inherent input delay and you are careful to run the game at settings that allow the minimum framerate to stay above the refresh rate, then Vsync should not add noticable input lag as long as you use triple buffering. Most gamers want as much of the eye candy as possible so framerates dip too often to avoid input lag.

I sometimes use 3D Vision which requires vsync, so I set up every game for vsync with minimal lag. With my CRT that means 1600x1000x110 or 1280x800x130 with SLI 580GTXs. If I am forced to move to a LCD this one looks like my best hope for keeping the same basic setup, but at 1920x1080x120 I'll probably have to turn a lot of quality settings down to keep vsyn on.

I want to hear some more hands on reports, but I think I will probably get this monitor.

I just took one of my 25" panels off my stand and let my son use it (the vultures are circling his Sony CRT). Every since BF3 came out, I have been playing on 1 screen and it's not bad. Surround is broken on BF3 right now and I doubt I could run it well except maybe on Low.

I am considering selling my full surround setup (3 screens plus stand) but I don't want to be hasty. Maybe I'll sell the two 25" screens to help cover the 3D screen and just mount it alone on my giant stand...

Someone post something! We need to know more!

So has anyone seen these in stock at a reputable retailer yet?
Amazon took their listing offline, Newegg has a listing up but it's set to auto-notify (Nov. 21).

Guys....I preordered this monitor from Amazon when you were still able to...

Did they really take it offline? I was assuming that my preorder is going to be good to go once the monitor is in stock.

Am i wrong about my assumption? I did not get any new emails from amazon saying that my preorder has been canceled.

I have this monitor. There is significant crosstalk on the Tomb Raider boat picture. As this is my first 3D monitor, I cannot say if it is bad or not. I skipped through the Avatar 3D movie and it looked good. Minor crosstalk on some scenes - you have to look for it.

When you turn down the brightness and contrast so that it become acceptable for 2D usage, the display looks a little washed-out. It's a step down from my old Benq MVA panel monitor. The monitor is mainly for 3D and gaming. Awfully expensive for a TN panel.

Amazon has yet come through for me, and I pre ordered nov 5th; I should have canceled and ordered from newegg when I had the chance. I'm still stuck waiting.

I'm waitin to pull the trigger to get this, f 3d.....120hz gaming is what I want...screen tearing is equal to 10fps for me, cannot stand it, especially with multi gpu. just waitn to pull that trigger will prolly even go overnight deliv.

Only reason I'm not getn the Acer is because its not as polished.

Mine sata the same thing about dec 25th, and I must have been one if the first to preorder. Still waiting. If tigerdirect gets stock, I'm dumping the preorder.

Yea this is no good...

Im going to see if newegg has it in stock sometime this week, if it does im gonna dump amazon and go with newegg.

Amazon strait up took this monitor off its website, you can't preorder anymore, this SUCKS!

Isn't this about what happened when the Samsung screen came out?

I wonder why they are having so much trouble supplying these.

Does anyone know if this monitor has an anti-glare matte finish, or a glossy one? If anti-glare, how "aggressive" is it? (Bought and then returned Dell and HP 27" 2560x1440 monitors due to how grainy text looked against a white background, which is due to the anti-glare coating).

Thanks.

looks good, the bezels seem on par with the Dells, do these swivel to portrait?

Nice! Just received an update from Amazon regarding my order...

We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on November 06, 2011

"ASUS VG278H - 27-Inch 16:9 3D full HD 1080p LCD Monitor - Black"Estimated arrival date: November 25, 2011

Got my update a couple hours ago too! Preordered Nov 5th, estimated delivery Nov 25th. 'Bout time!!

I'll be gaming BF3 on this bad boy! :D

BF3 doesn't support Nvidia 3D Vision yet. It will only be supported in the next patch...

I have received my VG278H couple of days ago. It has a pretty bad backlight bleeding:

Is this an isolated occurrence? Have any of you guys had a change to see the monitor in person and check the bleeding?

Where did you buy it from? I would see about exchanging it.

Measurable differences vs noticeable differences, perhaps my 60hz ignorance is bliss, like wise until I got an IPS panel I never had a problem with TN's in fact when I go back to my TN it's perfectly fine. Perhaps I'm slow in the head. :D

Yeah, I'm certainly ready to accept some negative characteristics of a TN panel for that 120hz goodness... but bleed like that from a ~$700 display? No fucking way.

MIne is supposed to arrive on Nov 25th. I hope it doesn't have bad Blacklight bleeding; if it does, I hope Amazon will take it back.

I originally bought mine from "pccanada.com". They were nice about it- allowed me to do a straight exchange at their warehouse.

The new monitor is much better- no weird oval-shaped bleeding in the middle at all. A little at the edges- but then again which LED LCDs don't have at least a bit of bleed? Seems normal to me now. I'll post new picture when the room is dark enough.

All in all- it seems like it was a bad batch. At least 2 other people reported seeing exactly the same issue- so I suggest to hold off the purchase until Asus works out the manufacturing kinks.

Its way obvious by now that they've been having problems getting this product out....this was something that has been talked about for almost all of 2011....and now a bad batch ...hmmmm not good....was thinkin of auto snatching one of these but I guess till newegg gets any cant even think about it.

Egads...backlight bleed rears its ugly head again? Bummer.
I notice that this monitor is out of stock at both Newegg and Amazon.

Bumping my earlier question about whether this is glossy or anti-glare/matte, and if AG, how aggressive it is (i.e., like Dell and HP use)

Wow, the back lighting is disconcerting - I would like to see some other samples, but I also wonder how much I would notice that in a game.

On very dark levels, say sneaking around in the shadows, you well might. I noticed BLB on a Samsung monitor on such levels, and it wasn't as bad as that pictured above.

Here is the backlight of my second VG278H:

P1030875_small.JPG

Not the best out there (there are some $200 monitors that have better backlight uniformity), but definitely not as bad as the first one I got. That "oval" bleeding was so annoying and impossible not to notice.

With the second monitor, it takes about 10 seconds for the eyes to adjust to completely black background and start noticing the bleed. I can live with that. 120 fps in BF3, or perfectly bright 3D in BFBC 2 are well worth it :) Nvidia 3D Vision 2 is simply amazing- I barely see any change in brightness when putting on and taking off 3D glasses in 3D mode.

My Amazon order just shipped! Have to love Prime $3.99 next day shipping, looking forward to this monitor :)

I got one of these ones for free! Be warned, its really bright... Which is a good thing when running the 3D mode.

Really itching to order one. I think once I see a few more feed back posts it will tip the scale. Glad they are starting to ship.

Newegg Canada has them in stock now in addition to N CIX
