PETA Goes After Nintendo's Mario

by posting the news story, you're giving them exactly the attention they are seeking :p

nothing my wife wouldn't eat. when i talk to vegans i always ask how they would eat if there were no stores, no hipster grocers etc... they are clueless.

most asians eat vegetarian... which is very doable. veganism is not very practical. how many vegans are there in fallout? lol

PETA is a sham. its noble to want to save animals, nature etc... but large groups like this exist out of love for lawsuits and attention.

I understand their position. Mario has always been about beating down poor, defenseless animals with hammers, burning them with fireballs, or jumping on them to crush their skulls. Now he is skinning animals and wearing Them?

don't forget guys its still cool to kill humans in games, not sure if that includes PETA members.

i'm a pacifist buddhist and find this just silly.

By posting this news item (and not linking them) I am simply giving you guys ammunition for the next time someone you know says they support these loons and / or tries to send a check to PETA. ;)

Fortunately, I don't know anybody that crazy :D

Not bad! Yuppie Hipsters indeed that have to 'save' something. I once again will listen to George Carlin for a laugh.

I almost want to write to Peta telling them how retarded they are being. If they stopped with this retardness and sticked to the real issues, maybe they could be taken more seriously. I am all for stopping animal cruelty and I really do think more needs to be done, but omg Peta is just doing it so wrong and are going after stupid issues that don't even affect animals. They are only doing it for attention.

As opposed to smoking fire flowers and having the ability to cough out fireballs.

We are all hunters, we consume animals, it sustains our cycle of life. We are at the top of the food chain.

I would not change that at all.

Actually SMB3 also features a frogskin suit and apparently Peta is okay with that.

I'm not going to post the link because well, if they wanted it here they'd have posted it in the summary, but yet again the summary is not exactly what they make it out to be. If you actually go to Google, and search about this it isn't what goes on in Mario that they take offense to. They're merely using Mario to draw attention to something else.

Just be aware the video is pretty graphic of what happens to real life tanooki, which I didn't even know existed before this story (think eyes blinking at you while their being skinned alive because the people pulling the fur off don't kill the animal first), so don't watch it if you have a queasy stomach.

If you are even slightly familiar with how farming works, you know that lots of animals are used and killed in the process of farming vegetables, fruit, rice, grain, corn, coffee, and other crops. Great talking point over Thanksgiving dinner with the vegan in your family!

mosquitos don't kill us.

Human+man-made object of choice= dead bugs

....we are at the top of the food chain.

Thats not really for food so not really part of the "food chain" :p

Well anyway on those rules, HIV and giant predatory aliens.

It's like PETA just WANTS me to think they're a bunch of delusional fucking morons - and they just don't want me to stop thinking that.

PETA: the same organization that euthanizes 95%+ of the animals it rescues to "protect them". how is that ok but eating animals is not?

organizations that want to reduce harm, humanely kill animals, i'm all for it. i'm all for having better butcher factories that do not cut off limbs while the animal is still breathing. or remove skin/hides while the animal is alive. I'M ALL FOR THAT. however peta tries to take it to the extreme.

you have to have a middle ground. your not going to make everyone a vegan or vegetarian but hopefully you can make them a conscious eater. maybe i'll have two pieces of chicken instead of 8 pieces, or maybe i'll spend 75 cents more to make sure the eggs came from a happy organic eating cage free chicken. sure i can live with that.

but to go and rescue hundreds of animals to euthanize them yourself? FACK U.

examples: hipster bullshit. "oh dont polute" as you roll up in your car mom bought you with new skinny jeans made by kids in asia chewing on some processed bird food for lunch.

"Today the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) published documents online showing that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed 95 percent of the adoptable pets in its care during 2008. [...]"

PETA makes it clear that they take offense to anything even remotely connected to their agenda. Just the simple wearing of a fur suit in make believe world offends them. They're also being hypocritical about things, look at all the turtles (Koopas) that get killed in the game, hell you even wear a hammer brothers suit made from Koopa shells.

It's one thing to spread your propaganda, but it's another to tarnish someone else's good (albeit fictional) name to do it. It's things like this that wants me to gather a whole bunch of them up and lock them into the San Diego Zoo with all the animal cages open for a week and see ho long they last in it. I assure you that there are no Animals for the Ethical Treatment of People that will save em.

Played the game. Found it ironic that I killed the Tanooki 50 some-odd times before I was able to catch Mario and get the skin back. :D

I live in the Bay Area. There's a lot of very...how do I say this..."delusional" people here :p

I went to Dallas earlier this year for the Super Bowl and of course ate at a ton of BBQ places. One of the places I went to (Rudy's) had printed on the back of their shirts, "We didn't get to the top of the food chain by eating vegetables" or something along those lines. Anytime someone tries to tell me to go veg./vegan I tell them to screw off and remind them of the fact that we probably wouldn't be here if it weren't for eating meat.

brb getting some wings before the game starts

i'm a pacifist buddhist and find this just silly.

Yup, even my pacifist, vegan Buddhist friends find PETA stupid.

there are millions of vegetarians each year going back to 1000bc or earlier.

there are less vegans from 1900-2011 than in an individual year 2000 years ago.

vegetarianism is not new in hindu/buddhist and other asian religions. what is new is people full of themselves thinking veganism is a modern phenomenon found primarily in western civ cultures, middle/upperclass cultures that can afford prefab, processed or non-local foods.

even vegetarians in traditional religions got alot of their protein from dirty foods, non-pesticide foods etc where insects, germs etc can provide nutrition and protein. other meat-minimalists like tibetan hindus eat meat, but eat it as little possible such as with old/aging animals after they lived long lives providing milk for butter.
'
veganism is not a survivors approach to a way of life: can you grow your lifestyle all in your backyard in all climate zones? its next to impossible unless you want to be malnourished in some way. most vegans i have met live primarily off processed foods.

vegetarianism is truly possible, most hindus and buddhists elders i have met have been living that way for 50-80 years. you can grow your vegetables and eat a balanced diet (dairy + veggies + carbs). not everyone can live this way. for instance the dalai lama tried living a vegetarian lifestyle in india and nearly died and was severely malnourished? why? well his people have been meat-minimalist eating for thousands of years as a way to survive in ice/snow and mountains.

again based on region is how people can survive long term in a practical way. if the capitalist society was disrupted by war/famine, there is no way vegans could obtain their food to survive. all groups of people in survival mode would have to eat whatever and grow locally to survive.

peta sucks.

Just found the site. Killed more Tanooki playing AS the Tanooki than I ever did by getting the suits in actual Mario games.

And I never knew Tanuki were an actual animal! I am SO going to have to get a Tanuki suit for real now! Sorry PETA, your promotion has worked against you! MUAHAHAHAHA!

also you can tell people to be vegetarian/vegan. most people preaching the liberal (yes im liberal) be like me end up acting alot more ignorant and conservative, often in some ways racist to other cultures and traditional ways of life. the ultra hipster liberal person to me was highly offensive on my wife's way of life (traditional asian shaman).

a conservative repulican redneck racist (most of the people i grew up with) vs liberal arrogant hipster vegan... their arguments sound alot like eachother so i'm not sure how they are much different lol. if your end goal is to destroy or get rid of everyone not like you, then frack off.

That's what pisses me off about PETA. There's children starving on this planet, and the most important thing on their attention whoring to-do list is apparently bitch about some animated pixels.

On the Edmund's InsideLine car website, there was a news item, a linked one-off car covered in leather, and some PETA peon waded in about bringing the site to PETA management's attention so it would be shut down immediately.

Where do they get the idea that they have the right to control freak everybody else? It's worse than most religions, except perhaps that purported Scientology scam.

The original founder of PETA abandoned ship, and avoids any association. It turned into something she never intended.

PETA has approximately a 99% kill rate; Newkirk herself said that she's rather kill them than have them be abused.

Then again, she also had herself sterilized at 22 because she doesn't believe in giving birth.
