Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

It is so difficult to find a server with fair game play now. Every time I want to play I have to load up 10-15 servers before I find one that is somewhat fair. 90% of the servers I join, I come into a conquest map with all the objectives Red, and the opposing team winning by 200-300 points. It's beginning to ruin the fun of BF3.

Yes it is so easy to block one team at initial spawn point and then the team has no options to get out. It happens often, more often then in BF2 or BF2142

I still crash after almost every round.

The game still also fails to start fully at least 2/3 times.

I have tried every fix in the book. On the whole, the game has been more stress than fun so far.

Origin, Punkbuster, ESN Sonar, Battlelog plug-in... why don't you add more rickety duct-tape crap to my system?

Yeah, if I haven't played for a few hours, then the first attempt to load will always result in a crash. The second attempt and beyond will usually load though. I've become an expert at loading the game because I leave any server that is clearly unbalanced (almost all of them). Doesn't matter if I'm on the winning or losing team, it's just not fun.

I get that "program has stopped responding" issue on first launch a lot of times as well. Second launch attempt usually works.

I also have a weird issue that if I let the computer go to sleep, then come back and try to play a round, the screen will flicker several times, the map splashscreen will pop up briefly, then close out and give me a 'disconnected from the server' error in battlelog.

It looks to be related to SLi because with SLi turned off it never does it. I did find a work-around where, if I click on the BF3 icon in the taskbar right after it pops up instead of waiting for the 'Go To Game' button, I can get in the game. I cannot alt-tab or alt-enter out after that though, or it will disconnect me (I'm guessing it's a timeout). Have to reboot the computer to fully resolve.

Just throwing that out there in case it helps anyone else.

I have a self-amplifying expertise with massaging launch/join as well, due to the fact I immediately quit any server when placed on the losing team mid-round.

My W/L ratio got way out of whack in my first 100 games due to constantly crashing/re-joining while ignoring the likely W/L outcome on arrival. I think statistically you'll get placed on the losing team more often when you join mid-round... because it's damn sure more people are quitting from the losing team.

I tend to play much better, in particular "play the objective" after settling in for a round or two. When I crash out I totally lose the flow and feel of the game, and I usually only get to play part of a round unless I re-join the same server right away which is often impossible.

I think that is exactly right. It makes sense that once a good team gets going they would stick in it, while the losing team has high turnover as people come in then leave or switch teams as soon as they can.

I personally feel that the balance would be helped a lot round to round if the teams were randomized between. Not sure what the best approach would be to keeping friends/parties together; guess that's something for DICE to work out.

I feel like an approach like this would greatly improve balance from round to round, and certainly decrease my losing-team rage. I really don't mind losing too much as long as it's a good fight. Getting steamrolled just plain sucks. I'm sure the winning team has a blast, though!

It can be fun dominating the another team, but it quickly gets boring. How fun is shooting fish in a barrel?

It is most fun when you're on the losing team, then turn it around and dominate the other team half way through. Or when you're losing by 100+ tickets, then end up winning by 2 or 3 tickets at the end.

I wish there was an auto balance feature based on score, kills etc for the next map change so the game lasts longer and is more balanced. I was playing yesterday and were being rolled by 3 guys as generals and we had me at 20 another guy 24 and one more at 18. Couldn't keep up with them for like 5 rounds
.

Does anyone know how the skill number is calculated? Mine is 600, i don't know if that is good or bad or if lower or higher is better.

Skill is calculated purely by kills and deaths. It's kind of like ELO, where everyone has a skill#, and killing someone will increase yours by a certain amount, depending on the person you killed's skill#.

Vice versa for dying

There is a feature like that, but AFAIK it is provided by 3rd party server management tools like pro-con. BF3 is still in its infancy and I'm not sure if anyone has developed the requisite plugins for 3rd party software yet. I do know that these types of things were commonplace for server admins using ProCon on BFBC2.

So

Squad leader can:
1. Order to attack objectives
2. Kick people from the squad

Anything else?

Some servers have it set so squad members can only spawn on the leader, whereas the squad leader can spawn on anyone. That was more around launch though as I think most I've played on recently have that option disabled.

Ohm that sounds good but I wish all servers has the same ruleas in this area.

BTW, explain me how spawning on teammates works in BF3? Some times I can spawn on alive teammates, some times not. Is tehre some kind of algorythm behind this logic?

I've been on some servers who tick the option "only spawn on squad leader". It makes it so you can either spawn on a checkpoint/home base or on the squad leader. You cannot spawn on other squad members.

I love it when I choose to spawn in one of the choppers, and its on a death spiral right into the ground..:)

I hate mortars. They do easy, no skill, kills and there is no way we can reach them on their base.

Is there any way to hide from mortars_ Some kind of suppresser?

I've actually stopped mortaring as much. Once you start mortaring, you appear as a giant bomb icon on the minimap, which puts you square in the sights of someone else with a mortar. All servers I have been on break down to mortar vs mortar when someone deploys it, and no one using a mortar gets anything done.

The only way to properly use a mortar now is to fire 1-2 shots then immediately pack up and move.

600 sucks, you probably are playing with fps in the 30's and need better hardware and upgrade to 120hz screens in order to obtain better skill level.

:D

jk, 600 is a very good skill

600 is on the low end, I don't know how its calculated but I'm minimum of 800.

Wow. My skill level is 425 and I have an average of 2.22 KD. QUESTION MARK?

Edit: apparently it factors in accuracy. I shoot for effect alot. :p

Comon , my skills is 136 and I'm usually in top 5 scores of 64 ppl servers. Does it mean I suck but other suck even more and all of us are suckers? :)

Something i have noticed is that obvious cheats have a 6to 7 kdr with tons of headshots but 4% accuracy? I have looked up 3 policy so far. All now banned. They have all had 4% accuracy.

The skill level can fluctuate very rapidly and change by a few hundred in a few rounds only.

For instance my skill level dropped several hundred points after only a few rounds because I felt like gunning in the chopper only, but the pilots I was getting were not very experienced to say the least. It then shot up again by several hundred cause I went a few 0/1/2 death type rounds.

It isn't like SPM or KDR which takes more time to affect.

From zh1nt0 regarding Skill Level:

• You gain/loose SL based on every confrontation with another player
• Killing a highly skilled enemy gives you more points than killing someone less skilled
• Points are not transferred from a player to another, they are simply added/subtracted based on the encounter and the SL of both parts (thus, after an encounter, one part may go up 50 points while the other loses only 20)
• The SL is used for matchmaking

I'm glad I'm not using matchmaking feature. Otherwise it would put me against suckers accoding my current SL :) I prefr to kill prosssss! %)

On another note, I've found a way to see if people have been exploiting the EOD bot bug for massive SPM. Just look for a huge amount of maintenance efficiency ribbons. I've seen quite a few people having used that exploit now.

Yeah, stay indoors, keep moving, stay out of sight of the enemy soldiers, and/or don't fire your gun till you know for sure you can get a kill. Also heal when you can after a firefight. From personal experience, short of a direct hit on the target, people can and will survive a mortar strike if they're at full health or have that flak armor perk. I only get kills with my mortar when A) a direct hit occurs, B) the enemy was already wounded to begin with, or C) the target stayed in same spot after I just hit him with an earlier mortar that only wounded him.

Besides that, you gotta rely on your own mortars to kill the enemy mortars.

Personally, I have no issue with the mortar, whether I'm on the receiving end or giving end. With the above tactics, I rarely die to mortars.

Haha, it was supposed to be a sarcastic post :p, like the one above. You obviously know that 600 is a high score.. it sounds like you were flaunting more than anything ;)

It really changes a lot, so if you want to showcase a "skill" score do it after a good round or a few.

For instance I went on a suicide run binge on Metro recently to level recon. My skill score dropped like 300+ while my KDR only went down by 0.05.
