Modern Warfare 3 General Discussion

Bought it. Played about 2 hours of the multiplayer and went back to BF3. Campaign is meh, spec ops is kay, Multiplayer makes me want to cut myself. I cant believe how awful this game is. I gave it a chance and even defended it at one point. Wish I could get a refund because idk how much longer I can give this thing. BF3 is just more My type of gameplay I guess. I enjoyed Black ops alot more.

This thread is going to have a ton of hate, especially since most of the "master race" is pro-BF3.

There are already several users who have posted that bought the game and enjoyed MW2, and they are even saying the game is crap.

"Jussayin".

I'm glad that software devs have finally made a decent "made for PC first" game, but that shouldn't excuse the whiney PC gamers to start crying because COD (and most other games) is made mainly for consoles. Jussayin.

Thank u so much for having the balls to post this- big ditto to you!

The people who are enjoying it are actually playing it...kind of like me.

Any one figure out how to uncap the FPS? I can't find anything in the config.

Played some more of the campaign...it certainly has got a lot better since focusing more on Price & Co. There are quite a few stealth sequences that are very similar to the Chernobyl mission of COD4...it functions well as a pacing device and help make you feel more like an elite operator.

The campaign itself is very up-and-down, and having two developers at the helm shows. Some of the missions have that trademark Infinity Ward touch to them, lots of crazy first-person view sequences and seeing story-events from different and unexpected perspectives...and then you have generic, by-the-numbers missions that are presumedly done by Sledgehammer (the Delta Force missions just aren't very fun at all, at least so far).

The story seems more character-driven than event-driven this time around.

I have been looking and trying everypossible combinations to try and unlock fps + fix FOV...

The only promising way of doing it will probably get me banned from MP. Such stupidity...

What way might that be? I'll try anything, this 90fps cap is absolutely terrible, especially on a 120hz monitor

It would be writing a program which changes program memory values directly... i.e. exactly like someone would do to cheat.

So it would probably get picked up by VAC/AntiCheat quickly.

It's really frustrating that they locked the FPS and FOV...

I contacted Activision during the day. I'm waiting for email answer. If they don't come back after 2 days (they say 24hours on the website) I'll probably give them a call. I know they won't have an answer at all. But this if beyond retarded. An FOV of 60 makes me nauseous.

I tried playing with my 23" LCD across the room (~10ft), it helped a bit. But it was like ... very small :p

I really hope they come through,or release a patch in the (very near) future that uncaps it, there's just nothing like a constant 120+fps with a 120hz monitor for fps's, and as of now BF3 runs smoother AND looks 10 times better, they really aren't giving me much of a reason to waste more of my time on this game

Yeah VAC would catch that with a quickness lol.

Im deploying official [H] servers right now. Each server takes up 15GB!!!!!

According to the in-game timer, I finished my first playthrough of the campaign - Regular difficulty - in 4 hours, 5 minutes and 18 seconds...

Holy jeet that's short! I can't wait to run through spec-ops...I'm having too much fun with MP right now though...this always happens. I still haven't even played the campaign for MW2 or BO.

So while I may not approve of MW3, I'm still somewhat curious of what you thought of the campaign as a whole, even as short as it is, and that's generally cause I have a healthy respect for your opinion as a whole.

I'm gonna jump straight into "hard" when I do the campaign...maybe that will add to the "length" of the game.

It's taking forever to download.
Started at 8:55PM and so far, it's only downloaded 12GB of the MP download, I paused the other 14GB download.

afaik, it's only 1 download for both.

I downloaded the MP, 14GB. Then when I said I wanted to start SP it downloaded 20mb.

1.5 hours in on multiplayer and the same on single player. Graphics are bad. It actually seems to be a step back from Black Ops. Gameplay is familiar and enjoyable but I skipped over MW2 so some of it is newish.

It's not worth $60 after having already played the original MW and Black Ops.

Did you set the "image Quality" to native?

I think they are on par, if not a tad bit better than BLOPs

And its definitely not worth $60 I had a BB gift card for $35, so only paid $30.. At $30 its not too bad.. but same game just a few added on scopes, and guns.. :|

I remember watching that livestream on IGN before the game came out where they did a QA with the lead dev from Sledgehammer games. One of the questions was about the length of the game and he tactfully dodged answering it with something along the lines of "how long it takes to tell a good story". 4 hours is pathetic, so no wonder he dodged the quesiton.

Played it a few hours, got up to the lvl 22, and yet, the game just dosent get anywere near as fun as BF3. Its just even not a FPS anymore, its a KFS, killstreak person shooter. Plus the fact that you get a challenge for just about anything in that game, like jump, use the mouse, press W... There is no ambient sound in any map, so they cranked up the annoying stressing music. Do yourself a favor and rename the MILES folder in your game files to get rid of it, since they dont sound like to be able to add some volume sliders in the game option, just a master volume.... (FAIL)

Campain took me 3h48min as per the in-game timer

You just won a challenge!

It's very much a mixed bag - there are flashes of the magic from COD4's campaign, and the stealth-sequences help break up the whack-a-mole approach to the gameplay, but some of the levels are very bog-standard. The very first level is rubbish and almost turned me off the campaign completely. The missions where you play as "Yuri" are far more interesting and varied than the rest, and the mission showcased at E3 is just as painful to play as it was to watch - the level practically played itself.

It's fairly light on story as well - there is still global conflict and the game puts you in quite a few different locations, but the missions where you participate in these battles are the weaker ones and feel like filler - the game's emphasis is very much on Makarov (the villain from CODMW2) and Captain Price's pursuit of him. There aren't any nuke-level OMGWTF moments in terms of in-game events (which is a big change from CODMW2's overkill of it), focusing more on the main characters. There is a nice cutscene in the last-third of the game that reveals a lot of Makarov's motivations.

It's hard to rate the campaign as a whole - the setpieces and scripted moments are handled better but the gameplay quality is very inconsistent. I put this down to Sledgehammer - it has a big part in the campaign and the inexperience shows. The relationship is akin to a big music superstar accompanied by the impersonator/tribute band that plays at the local club.

Took me about 24 hours to bust my monitor stand over this game, I need to stop playing this fucking game.

I'm in the camp that somewhat enjoyed MW2 and somewhat enjoyed BC2 and BF3. And I didn't get upset over BLOPS.

The game is not terrible from an absolute standpoint, but really, again, is there one single thing that is an improvement over MW2? (speaking mostly about the multiplayer)

Yea I will be playing this game until SWKOTOR comes out, but really, like what the hell.

Ok there's ONE thing that I believe is better - they incorporated killing enemy equipment and capturing points into the kill-streak reward system.

Poor self control.

It's ok though it was just a crummy stand I cobbled together out of pieces of wood I had laying around.

Disregard the fact that the original stand was busted while paying Black Ops.

:D

I wrecked a keyboard or two when I played COD4...

Do you know that you have to enable the dedicated server list in the option ? Pretty sure they made that so noobs will never know their presence.

I don't use caps often... but THANK YOU!

Stupid annoying music is now gone. Game is getting slightly less annoying. But man... why the hell not include a "music" slider in sound options.

No fucking shit right? I thought it was a problem with my sound card config or drivers. UGH! I hate not being able to hear dialogue!!! HULK SMASH
