what 'old school' game would you like to see a sequel or new version?

Deus Ex..oh wait everyone has said that...still would be nice to feel again like the original....

Ok how about Chuck Yeager's Air Combat with both modern and classic planes / improved flight dynamics and ultra modern graphics

Terra Nova by Looking Glass would be awesome
2142 done in the bf3 engine would be cool as well
q2 ctf too

I have always imagined Raven Shield on the Source engine as a mod, omfg it would be so beautiful.

I'd at least like to see more devs release the source code of really old games, to give the community a chance to redo the games. I've played some old games with new engines that are amazing:

  • The Darkplaces engine with high-res textures makes Quake 1 look fairly current.
  • The Berserker engine with high-res textures makes Quake 2 look better than Quake 4.
  • The eDuke32 engine makes Duke Nukem 3D what Duke Nukem Forever should have been.
  • The D2x-xl engine makes Descent 1 and 2 simply awesome, with high-res textures, dynamic lighting, and full 3D models. The simpler D2x engine is closer to the original, and actually enables you to play Descent 1 and 2 in 3D Vision using GLDirect.
  • The Freespace Source Code Project has been discussed here a lot. But I've never played Freespace...

Some attempts have been made to create a new engine for Daggerfall, but have never reached fruition as far as I know. That would be awesome... Imaging Daggerfall with a more modern and fully 3D graphics engine... /drool.

Now Daytona has been remastered KI2 is the only other one I'd like to see done.....unless KI3 is done in a similar vein.

I would certainly settle for a KI3 if it includes all fighters, levels, etc from the previous 2 games with obvious graphical and sound updates. I can't for the life of me figure out why RARE has not remastered this one or created a sequel when people have been asking for it for so many years now. Now is most certainly the time to do it with fighting games making a strong comeback in recent years with SF4 and MK.

Tie Fighter
Ultima 6, 7 and 7.5.
Ultima Underworld 1 and 2
Magic Carpet 1 and 2
Wizardry 7
Might and Magic 4/5/6/7

MGS2 and Snake Eater ported to the PC done on the Crytek engine

The original Zelda Link To The Past done on the Crytek engine in 3D (not the gimmicky 3D crap) with an additional third world after the Dark World called retro world that is as hard as hell but adds a ton of additional content and easter eggs.

BG1/2/3 all packaged in one new epic game on the Dragon Age engine. Each BG game has been re done in the trilogy so that your choices in each of the games effects the storyline/choices of the following game and the game as whole. Similar to the ME series.

Freespace
Wing Commander
Homeworld 3
A proper Tribes 1 with killer graphics and 256-512 people max per server
proper Mechwarrior with single and multi
Star Trek Armada

I have to agree with Sovern,

would love to see Metal Gear Solid along with MGS2 and MGS3 get updated PC releases using the new game engine thats been created for Metal Gear Rising which is coming to PC so the work there is done. would be pretty damn awesome.

I want Mechwarrior 5! Although the fellas over at http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/ are doing a fantastic job even though they are a volunteer dev. They have done wonders with the Crysis Wars engine to keep us mechheads satisfied.

I also want a Dungeon Keeper 3 game. DK2 was so much fun, I really wanted to see them keep going...but nothing.

I'd like them to make an FPS version of Syndicate. I played that game on my Amiga back in 1993/1994.

This thread must be quite old, since this is already happening.
Anyway, great to see so many fantastic suggestions.

I want a brand spanking new version of Independence War II: Edge of Chaos.
Can´t fathom that a new Descent has not been made yet.

Easy! Legend of zelda Ocarina of time FOR THE MOTHER FUCKIN' WIN! None of that Nintendo DS bullshit either.

Be nice if they remade (as in only upgraded graphics - don't touch the gameplay/story!) the original Unreal. IMO one of the best single player FPS games ever made.

canna said:

I think you meant Descent.

While it was a pretty cool game I'd get a headache/nauseous after playing it a while. I also would get disoriented with up/down/left/right and flying upside down/on my side.

I'm pretty late to the thread, so all of these have been mentioned already. A new version of M.U.L.E. for the Wii would be excellent. On the PC side, would love to see more of System Shock, No One Lives Forever, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment, even if it was just current graphics / physics. I would love an update of Fallout and Fallout 2 to a new and functional engine, as well as the original Unreal.

Triple monitor Descent with new engine would prob kill alot of people. It'd be like Scrotem McBoggerballs. You'd never put it down no matter how many times it made you throw-up.

Quake 2 / 3 Loki's Minions CTF

I remember the VF Clans servers for Q2 LMCTF, ahh the good ol days when HPB still existed.

QUAKE DA BOMB for all of you HEAT.NET players.... I got the actual files from one of the heat.net developers and have a server up if anyone is interested, lol.

There are waay too many of these to list.

Mechwarrior 2 <-- Arguably the best one
Commander Keen
Final Fantasy without 99999999999999999 Video's imbed in it.
Asherons Call
Another neverwinter night would be nice.

Too many others.

another Q3A or UT2k4. All these modern military shooters are fun, but meh...

I had a hankering for some original CoD today too. Still the best one.

Shadow Warrior!

"You no mess with Lo Wang!"
"Do you want to wash Wang or do you want to watch Wang wash Wang?"
"Woops, Lo Wang drop soap, you bend over get it, hahaha"
"Look! You have a new friend!" (When he puts a sticky bomb on a bad guy)

This game cracked me up and was one of the games I played before HL came out.
