If I'm home, and I'm sick, there might be some games played. No, I have never called in sick just for video games.

The "problem" that we have isn't the time we take off, it's the amount of productivity we achieve each day. For example, German companies work less hours then us, and have more time off. However, in a social context, they are required to work much harder then us when they are actually at work. It's something that we cannot grasp.

It is only the Koreans, Dutch and Norwegians that produce more per hour than we do.

While by far I think we have the work/personal life ratio way out of balance. We still have some of the most productive workers in the world. You can check the numbers here -> http://stats.oecd.org/Index.aspx?DataSetCode=LEVEL

Never called in sick to work for a video game as a working adult. Sick days are for when I'm sick, used personal vacation days at my last job for when I wanted an extra day in the week to play a game.

Don't really get vacation days at my current job, but I enjoy it much more. Some days I leave at 8 AM and get home at 9 AM the following day, but other days I show up at 8 AM and then head home at 2 PM. Just last week there was no work to do so I set up some suspected failing hard drives to do an extended Data Lifeguard test then me and my boss ordered pizza and played Resistance 3 all day. :D

I have 16 paid vacation days that I can use until Jan 1st.

I would never call off to play a game unless I get paid to do so. lol.
Seems dumb to not get paid just to play a game.

I've known ppl to book a day off work for the ritual release of CoD but call in sick? Man you have serious underlying problems if you fake sickness to play a game........

Hardly. Personally I take days off on occasion just to keep the stress from killing me or making me crazy. On these days I like to relax and take it easy. It's not just about video games.

Back in my WoW days (when it was worth playing), i called in sick just to get more runs in or make a raid. It was worth it then, but not anymore, not for wow at least.

I just play at work....being the owner has its perks.

Sorry...ridiculous post....I work hard when I am work, and I take sick days off because I can. I work at an office where we all cover each other's work when needed. Which is never, BTW. I work plenty of overtime without documenting it.

Man you have serious underlying problems if you judge people without knowing the circumstances....See what I did there......

Man I was inches away from calling in today to get my game on.

Not sure why some are opposed to this, I thought "mental health days" were pretty common, even if you don't hate your job? Just so happens on my mental health days I tend to like to play games/watch movies etc, that doesn't make them a waste. Days taken off in this manner have the added bonus of me getting the house to myself, because the family is at work/school.

since as the boss usually knows about the big game drops it makes it rather hard to "become sick" the day after release. But even still I rather be making money than playing a game that is barely populated because the rest of mankind is either working or in school.

I've scheduled PTO time for it, but not in a while. Haven't had any to spare. can't remember the game I last did it for.

for the new star wars MMO I might

Sick days are paid....

I rarely get sick and it's never enough to warrant a call off. I worked through bronchitis last month, against doctor's orders, which was the first time since 06 that I've gotten sick. If it's enough that I would not be able to come in, I would be taking medical leave + vacation time.

The question is why are you all getting sick so much that you can't use your days for video games if you want... perhaps you need a better diet and multi and most importantly adequate sleep.

Calling in to work to stay home and play videos games is pretty pathetic. Definitely the definition of "slacker".

I have done it before and will probably do it again. We work til we're to old to have fun, then we're dead. I'll take a day off if I want to.

I work abroad, and where I work treats sick days and vacation days as being identical unless I go to the doctor and get something that says I was too sick to work adequately that day. It sucks, but yea. That said, I have taken last minute paid vacation (the U.S. equivalent of calling in sick, basically) once since I've been here to play games and once because I was legitametly sick.

I get 20 paid vacation days though, and 12 roll into the next year, on top of that is the fact that Japan has numerous holidays (around 2 a month). So taking one day a month, I'd still have plenty of time to take a 2 week vacation if I needed to.

I have called in sick for World of Warcraft when I played it. I may do it for Diablo 3 as well but those are about the only games =) but I work at a University atm so it is pretty lenient and sometimes you get a ton of sick/vacation days. Might as well use em.

I manage 8 people. Believe me, any good boss knows when you're BS-ing for a free day.

I'd much rather my reports just say they're taking a "personal day" than lie to me. Also, I really don't have the time or energy to watch cheap theatrics.

Luckily, I've only had to have "that" conversation once.

The amount of random holidays Japanese workers gets is ridiculous. I'm constantly having to reschedule meetings to work around them.

WTF is "Culture" day anyways and why isn't it on a Monday or Friday? Off Thursday then back to work Friday... what's the point?

I was planning a sick day a few weeks ago when they came to hook up my net connection.

And wouldn't you know it, I woke up that morning with fucking tonsillitis...

I did call sick at work a few times because i played games too late. I get paid anyways though =)

Didn't happen this year though

It was funny on the Facebook page for Gears of War reading all the comments from the fans who had taken a day off for the "new" DLC, only for it to be delayed.

I have done this before... I don't like to do it often but sometimes I just have to have claim a day for myself and some gaming.

many many years ago I did. This year i have had 2 sick days and I was actually unwell!
