"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming to PC worldwide on November 8th, 2011 and is currently available for pre-order and soon pre-loading on Steam, so that you can be set to jump online Day 1!

I'm extremely excited about the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 this year, because we’ve been taking your feedback since Modern Warfare 2,and the franchise as a whole, on what you wanted to see in the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 and the team at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games has put aton of emphasis on delivering a PC experience that brings in all the great things we added in Modern Warfare 2:

Lobby System

Matchmaking with a Party

Matchmaking for Public Games

Steam Integration (Friends List, Server Browser,Achievements, Join on Friends)

While combining it with your favorite features from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare:

Dedicated Servers (Join your favorite or set up your own, without any 3rd party hosting requirements)

In-game Server Browser that allows you to filter by ping, map, gametype, hardcore, voice, password, and more.

In addition, we're supporting PC specific features that give you even more control over your experience like RCON, Custom Game Saving, NoGFX / Audio Card Requirement on DS.exe, Voice Chat, and SSAO.

Beyond that, we know our PC audience has sent in a ton of questions to us via @fourzerotwo, Sledgehammer Games’s QotW, and to the forums and wanted to knock out someof the most asked questions in a quick and easy FAQ so that you can make a fulland informed decision when pre-ordering Modern Warfare 3.

Does the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 support the same Private Match options?

Yes! PC players can fully customize their private / dedicated server games through full control over Class Restrictions, Custom Gamemode creation, access to unique private match modes like One in the Chamber,Gun Game, and Infected, as well as save their custom games for future use.

Will Modern Warfare 3 have Dedicated Servers?

Yes! Modern Warfare 3 supported matchmaking as well as Dedicated Servers, allowing players to find and filter via an in-game server browser or set-up their own Dedicated Server for complete control, without being restricted by any 3rd party hosting requirements. If looking for a Dedicated Server to join, if you choose not to set up your own, you can filter and favorite by Ping, Map, Gametype, Hardcore Variants, Voice, Password, and many other options.

Will MW3 on PC have unique graphic options available?

Yes! You have a lot of graphic options, including enablingand disabling of new rendering features such as SSAO, you'll also be able to modify DOF, Shadows, Anti-Aliasing, Texture Resolution and more.

Will Remote Console (RCON) be available to server admins?

Yes! You'll be able to admin your server using RCON. We'll support all things you'd expect, such as Kicking & Banning players, map rotation, private chat to players, reloading the map, and more.

Does Modern Warfare 3 on PC support an in-game Server Browser? Can you also use matchmaking?

Yes! In addition to the public matchmaking system for finding Ranked public games, you can use the in-game server browser to find and favorite unranked Dedicated Servers to join, which can be filtered by a number of options mentioned above.

How is Modern Warfare 3 on PC handling anti-cheat?

Security is a major focus for Modern Warfare 3, especially coming out of Modern Warfare 2. We will be utilizing multiple methods of Anti-cheat and Security methods, including Steam's VAC system, CEG, and our own propriety methods implemented to provide multiple layers of defense in keeping online multiplayer fun, fair, and secure for all players without limiting the control they expect on PC.

Will Modern Warfare 3 on PC support STEAM?

Yes! MW3 is fully integrated with Steamworks, including the Steam Friends List (in addition to the in-game friends list), Steam Server Browser (in addition to the in-game one), Steam Achievements, and the ability to join friends matches.

Will Spec Ops have matchmaking on PC?

Yes! As well as Spec Ops specific leaderboards and a full progressive ranking system.

What is the Maxplayer count for Modern Warfare 3 on PC?

Currently it is 18 players max (in Ground War) but it may increase post launch.

Will Modern Warfare 3 on PC have LAN support?

Yes!

What is the overall design philosophy regarding PC? How is IW/SH providing for the unique needs of PC players?

We value the PC player and have gone to great lengths inproviding a more rich experience for our players. We keep our ear near the ground and try todeliver items most requested. The big feature for MW3 we are supporting is Dedicated Servers, this includes a serverbrowser, voting, RCON, and more. Also we’ve implemented some PC only rendering features including SSAO. Lastly we are embracing the STEAM platform by integrating fully with Steam including friends list, STEAM achievements.

How is the game being optimized for PC hardware?

We do wide testing across all tiers of PC, in our office wehave an old minspec machine that receives just as much care as our top tier PC. We’ve also engaged the hardware manufactures for wider compatibility testing for us to ensure an optimized bug free launch.

Can we set our max FPS?

No. Setting Max FPS is not a user controllable option.

Will 'lean' be in the game?

No. We chose to keep lean out of the game to keep the gameplay experience universal across all platforms. This was a gameplay design decision.

Will there be Modtools for Modern Warfare 3 on PC?

Mod Tools will not be shipped at launch. As always we are continually evaluating features to support post launch and this is one requiring further discussion.

What is the MinimumSpecs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on PC?

Ha, what bullshit, unranked when you join a dedicated server? Another reason I'm not going to buy this game, and I hate joining a matchmaking service, its official, COD has gone down the drain.

Well it's obvoius they want to 'clamp it down' so to speak to charge for everyday play.

If you read this closely it just about says you will make your dedicated server from your home using your PC and NOT 3rd party companies that host game servers. So I think dedicated servers will be from people's homes.

I blame it on the stupid rank up mechanics and state tracking more than a desire to make money. I think that was just a nice (for them, not players) side effect.

Honestly, I never really cared for ranking up, but damn, other than that, it sounds like they are pulling ALL the stops to get back the people who liked CoD 4 (me).

Before, i was 108 percent against buying this, now I'm starting to feel a little differently. It has a chance to be what we wanted all along coming out of CoD4.

And then comes all the exclusive DLC....double XP when buying mountain dew...$50 for Elite if you wanna "save" on the DLCs and get exclusive content ect.

I will wait until Bobby Kotick gets the fuck out of Activision before I buy another cod.

Wow, now the only requirement left is mod tools. I may actually buy it if they step all the way up.

I see a glimmer of light, and you just had to ruin it with a reality check didn't you.

I did, since I just realized the amount of shit MW3 is doing. Its going in the right direction in many ways, but its also being completely bullshit in the ways I mentioned.

So if I want to play on a Dedicated server, its gonna be unranked...no thanks.

Hell, if they include mod tools, I might stop calling it Call of Derpy and address it by it's proper name again, Call of Duty. You guys posting in this thread are correct. It's doing a LOT of things right and we could almost say that they are de-Kotickizing the series with these changes, UNFORTUNATELY, the stain of Kotick will still be on it, it won't ever completely wash away.

But they are about 90 percent in the right direction with the vast majority of these changes, we just need the last 10 percent, ranked dedicated servers, and mod tools, and it's a grand slam.

What you might have missed it there really are no dedicated servers. It's just people hosting from their homes, making a server name, and it shows up on an in-house server browser. At least that's what I take from the write up. I hope I am wrong.

So if I want to play on a Dedicated server, its gonna be unranked...no thanks.

Having all the non commercial dedicated servers unranked makes them useless.
If you start playing on your own server with a few friends, you won't get anybody else joining if the server is unranked. People were too busy trying to earn level 15 prestige and all the perks in Black Ops, to join an unranked server.

They should at least allow a pure dedicated server to be ranked.
If not I hope they allow a server setting that enables all perks, instead of allowing only player earned perks or host server specific perks.

So by "unranked", do they mean "no leveling up"? If so, that's stupid, at least until I reach max level at which point I won't care (prestiging is dumb). I can't really fathom why they would do that, but once again, it's unclear to me exactly what it means and I will reserve final judgment for the release of the game.

Please let this be the last of this series.

They just don't get it. Or they do and also enjoy a bowl of dicks for breakfast.

Maybe they should join up with id to make world of rage, brown edition.

Sounds more like having both ranked and unranked dedicated servers. Ranked following official rules and guidelines more or less, unranked with custom game modes where you can do whatever you want.

I could care less that dedicated servers are unranked. It's probably because of tards who just knifed each other all day in CoD4 in order to rank up that it had be brought into play to begin with.

People still play this series?

Shit tons of 'em. Look at the sales.

Anything shy of this is sheer stupidity.

And it'll still sell in droves anyways.

The wording is a bit vague. It could simply mean that you use the matchmaking service to find ranked games, which may or may not be on dedicated servers, and using the server browser you can also find unranked servers.

But either way, I am interested in this game. The main obstacle from me buying this game, well, there's 2, firstly that its fucking overpriced in Australia and even overseas its far from cheap, much more than I normally pay for games, secondly I have barely any time to play games these days and a few days after the game releases I'm going overseas for work for 6 weeks. Maybe I'll get it when I get back ;)

I hate ranking up just to compete with players who have earned the toys. Gaming isn't my second job and I like to play as many titles as possible, so level building in a FPS is a drag for me. I suppose this means I'll be able to hop on a dedicated server and have full access to whatever the server allows.

I got a good nostalgic laugh out of the minimum system requirements. I built a PC with an x1950 Pro about 5 years ago. Maybe I'll dig it out of storage and use it as a dedicated MW3 system :D

No chance I'll buy it though, the game just isn't for me anymore. Haven't really enjoyed it since the original CoD.

Confirmed.

Infinity Ward still doesn't understand the whole dedicated servers issue, does it?

I think the problem is that Activision as a whole doesn't understand the dedicated servers issue, and it probably never will until Kotick is replaced by a more PC centric minded person....

Not Activision, just Kotick. Just like Germany was basically forced to follow Hitler, Activision and its studios must follow Kotick.

I think this is for competitive play (ie. clan matches) where rank (therefore unlocks) would create an imbalance. That and the possibilty of exploiting it to pad stats and ranks such as kicking good players other than yourself if you know the admin to that server.

You don't need dedicated servers in order to exploit stats or hack, just take a look at MW2 which is rife with hackers and exploiters.

I think you guys are reading into this too much. He didn't say that all dedicated servers would be "unranked". There is an option to create both ranked and unranked servers in Black Ops.

Confirmed? Where?

From your own link...

"They can't rank up in private or custom games."

I'm still not reading where it is clearly stated that all dedicated servers are unranked. I'm only reading that private matches are unranked and public matches are ranked, which really doesn't bother me. All it will do is eliminate those servers where people tweak it for stupid high scores so they can power level.

I haven't read anywhere clearly stated "dedicated servers are unranked", only "private matches are unranked".

Hey, maybe they are unranked, but the wording of the official statements I've read is too vague to come to that conclusion.

Are Dedicated Servers Ranked or UnRanked?

Only matchmaking to public games are Ranked (meaning, you have to rank up to unlock weapons to rank on the leaderboards), choosing to play on a Dedicated Server is UnRanked. Meaning unlocks are completely controlled by the Server Admin. They can choose to unlock everything or limit class restrictions to whatever they like to fully customize the experience. You do not have to rank up in Public games to have access to weapons in Dedicated Servers, you have complete control over what is unlocked for you in a Unranked Dedicated Server.

Seems pretty clear to me.

Ah ok, I didn't see the updated thread.

But either way, it also clearly states you dont need to unlock stuff to use it in dedicated servers. I was thinking you'd have to play public matches to unlock weapons before you can use them in dedicated servers, but it seems that's not the case.

Meh, I'm undecided how much I actually care given, yeah, you dont rank in dedicated servers, but nor do you need to rank if you're playing dedicated servers. Aren't people always whinging about the unlock system in COD anyway? So how is this a problem? :p

I guess it depends on your view of things, lots of people probably enjoy the grind whereas others couldn't care less.

Maybe it would be good just to be able to 'PLAY' an online game like in the good old days where everyone started on an equal footing and there was none of this rubbish of having to reward people to instill in them a sense of achievement. Either way, I won't be outlaying any cash to find out unless I find a dirt cheap key for $10.

While, what Rob (402) posted is a concern to PC gamers the bigger problem is, they keep all this info to themselves until the last minute.

If not pushed via twitter to get some PC info, more then likely we still would not know what the PC customer would be getting when the game ships in Nov.
