Starcraft II

Watching these Up/Down matches: God the colossus is a poorly designed unit. Too bad Blizzard will never admit it, and we'll never see the reaver again. :/

Not disagreeing with you, but what do you think makes the colossus a poorly designed unit and how is the reaver better?

For a poorly designed unit it's played a pretty big role in SC2.
It's not a weak unit, it's just poorly designed. A super marine, exactly like a marine but with double the everything, would be a bad, lazy design but people would still use it.

Long range, mobile, high AoE damage with little micro required (and in some cases, like in the Up/Down matches earlier, micro is restricted because Colossi can't cross eachother) It's just lazy design. It's a super generic unit, with really beefed up stats. Its vulnerability to air is about the only thing interesting about it, but that's non-existent in PvP.

The Reaver was a brilliant unit. Long range, high AoE damage, slow rate of fire with extremely poor maneuverability, except when combined with a shuttle and intensive micro. It could be an incredible harass unit or the backbone of an army, and it could either have huge longevity with the shuttle, or die instantly when surrounded. On top of that, the act of a scarab chasing its target was a huge source of tension and excitement, much like a HSM chasing a target.

was there anything like the colossus before? no. is it a unique design? yes.

should you get over bw? definitely.

You can get a sneak preview of all the new units in HotS:

Looks like the lurker is back... with range 4, lol. (Ok, I have no idea on the range, but in the short clip you can see it borrow right next to the bunker before it's able to attack ). But... there's this other new zerg unit which I think is a bit waaaaay over the top. The only way to describe it is a flying grappling hook.

Terran does indeed get the transforming hellion and what looks like a poor man's Goliath.

Protoss... another massive flying saucer, and another caster? Sentry looking like unit that can copy and paste an enemy unit? WTF? In this short clip you can see two of those units on the low ground, with terran charging down the ramp. Two tanks on the high ground in siege mode with marines storming at the... 'sentry'. In the instant, four siege tanks appear next to the toss' units and start blasting at the rines. wtf is that?

And the range is longer than 4. In the Multiplayer panel they show a group of four or five of them taking down some bunkers and siege tanks.

I wonder what happened to the infested bunker unit they showed off at the art panel last year. Maybe it was scrapped or used for single player.

Don't think that's a lurker. Apparently it's a burrowing ground version of the brood lord.
That's actually a pretty good analogy.

Good to know, and I would hope the siege weapon had a longer range. I pulled the 4 out of my behind, and the short clip didn't really do the unit a justice.

slayers coaches comes up with the most unique strats. mma completely countered mvps mech heavy play, well deserved win.

hopefully mvp can win the blizzcon tourny to make up for the loss lol

Here's a little snippet from somewhere in the TL thread:

Ultralisk has a new spell called Burrow Charge which lets them dive underground and instantly surface at a target - haven't used it yet.

Hydra has a new upgrade which allows it to move faster while off creep - nice.

Baneling has a new upgrade which allows it to move while underground....UMMMMMM WHAT?. I haven't used it yet, but i'm going to go find some bronze leagues to abuse it on. Will ask David Kim how he intends to balance that which is unbalancable later today during the press session.
+1000 for the hydralisk movement upgrade!

Burrowed banelings wtf?

Edit - I mean moving while burrowed.. wtf?

It's a late game upgrade IIRC, probably Hive upgrade, similar to Adrenal Glands on lings. So it's nothing that can be abused early on.

It might help prevent mass marine support from working into late game... or might convince T to stop relying on comstat scans.

It will probably just force the Terran players to incorporate a Raven or two in their army mix, but it really shouldn't be that big of a problem. And while on the subject of Terran, I like the idea of the Shredder unit. It will definitely make the game a little more positional.

I do like the Viper the Zergs are getting :p And the Swarm Host needs a new name

It was the finals of another tournament that was going on (casted on the red stream for most of yesterday), not the main tournament for the weekend. It was the round of 4 (Idra, Naniwa, MVP, Nestea).

yea apparently this is from the invitationals, just found the recap. where are the vods? that's some crazy shit too bad I missed those matches.

Oh Idra, lol.

I'm really impressed with how well Naniwa is doing. That guy is having a great weekend.

Naniwa has improved his game a lot, but he still acts like a total tool half the time. Have to root against people that act the way he does.

Rooting for Leenock to take the whole thing.

Leenock vs Naniwa Finals! I don't like Naniwa as a character personally, but he's a toss and I root for toss. Plus, he's been on an absolute tear. Amazing play by him this weekend.

Yeah Leenock coming back from down 2 against DRG was epic. Hope his ZvP is better than DRG and Nestea's has been this weekend.

Congrats Leenock! He probably went through the toughest route to the championship holy shit. Coming from the open bracket, losing in the championship bracket, fighting his way through the loser's bracket, beating DRG while down 0-2 and beating Naniwa in a Bo7 (where Naniwa could have closed it early if he won the Bo3 half) was insane. o_o!

That is the most epic run to a win ever so far in SC2.

Drewbie, Oz, Gatored, State, Haypro, (Lose to DRG), Boxer, Slush, MMA, Idra, HuK, MVP, DRG, Naniwa

And taking out Naniwa in a series with rules heavily favoring Naniwa, on the same weekend after Naniwa had beaten Nestea twice.

ha leenock likes to play through mlg the hard way just like white-ra, except he actually made it to the end! this guy has the worst luck with matchups, he is still in ro8 gsl too.
