Jumped the gun with an XFX card.

Anyway, I bid on a used XFX card on ebay, and (even though the auction isn't up), I've learned from the seller that he didn't register the card. :eek:

He has had it for 3 months (supposedly), but I realized (even I though I should have known this dammit!) that you must register within 30 days to receive a life-time warranty.

I didn't think it would be a big deal, but then I realized some of the problems folks have been having with XFX lately.

It still has the normal 2 year warranty though, just not lifetime. So it's not a complete loss. Are you really worried about warranty support 5 years from now?
 
Imma a cheap bastard, plus, if I decide to pass this card on (which I might), I don't want it to bum out.

However, if it's a 2 year warranty, I'll be okay. How does this two-year warranty work exactly? Are there any specifics?
 
Hopefully, this thing was manufactured a week before the guy bought it, right? LOL. Otherwise I'm looking at maybe a year and a half on the warranty.

Hopefully, someone will outbid me.
 
You can transfer the warranty? I thought the warranty was only valid for the original purchaser? That's why they often ask for a copy of the receipt.
 
You could always sell it on the trade forums here and might make your money back, you never know. ;)

He never registered the card.

It seems that if there is no receipt/invoice, the warranty starts on the date of manufacture. Here's what's stated on XFX's warranty page:

"The limited hardware warranty on all XFX-branded products begins on the date of the packing slip, invoice, or receipt. A copy of the dated original invoice/receipt must be submitted to verify warranty repair or replacement. In circumstances where the transaction record is not available or reasonably verifiable (based on date of manufacture), the warranty period shall begin on the date of manufacture of the product. The warranty period is not extended if we repair or replace a warranted product or any parts. XFX may change the availability of limited hardware warranties, at its discretion, but any changes will not be retroactive."

Besides, I might be able to ask the seller for those things.

We'll see. :D I might just post the link, since it's a steal (IMHO).
 
I bought an XFX 9800GT and forgot to register it. I called up and registered it a while after it was supposed to be registered - couple months late - and there wasn't any issue. You could always try.

I shot them an email, will see what they say tomorrow.
 
Which model XFX card did you bid on and how much is it going for right now? Warranty wouldn't matter to me if it was a 6990 and me being the current highest bidder had a bid of say... $299.99, obviously if your in any way close to the etail/retail price this would be a concern. I'm sure the original seller can come up with a invoice that will net you a 2 year warranty. Hopefully it's a good card and you end up winning the auction with it being dirt cheap for you.
 
During the last 40 seconds of that auction it will jump to $240 at least, you didn't miss anything.

LOL. I kinda figured that, but I have been lucky a few times. :p

Some of the mark-up on those cards is ludicrous, particularly for used ones.

Been trying to catch a newegg open box card for awhile, but that's next to impossible. I'll just save up a bit.
